  1. I started fitting droppers to the bus bar today......a couple of faults popped up when I powered up. Both were due to metal vice insulated fishplates. After several hours of soldering I now have a partially working layout. Lots more wires to solder up tomorrow. The Y point arrived so I can install that tomorrow too. First loco round the layout ........... was 47489. Charles House.....there’s always next week!
  2. Usually Crompton and a 4TC. Locos and a couple of coaches some times, c33 or c73. DEMUs have also been used and then c119 DMUs......they ran ECS from Redhill then I believe ECS to Reading after finishing the last shuttle. Now a days 5 trains an hour each way!......but maybe not right now.
  3. I could. In fact I’m going to, as they say, leave passive provision for it. The siding is intended for the 4TC or DMUs running the Kenny Belle to be turned back but would make a useful connection at the other end of the fiddle Yard. There is already a crossover from north to south which allows access to the inner side of the fiddle Yard.
  4. As a treat I’m going to try and power test the layout tomorrow.....see if I can get something running. Charles House will finally have some progress too.

  6. Well I ended up continuing with the track laying. The fiddle Yard is now complete apart from the turnback siding. I have a Y point enroute from the shop to complete.
  7. A little bit of progress today, both points to access the turnback siding installed. I’m going to push on with the track laying this week but will only post photos once it’s finished. To break up the week I’m going to get properly started on Charles House.
  8. Some more fiddle Yard roads laid. Like most plans things are often fluid and a “good idea” pops up in your head. I realised that a crossover from up to down would be useful in the fiddle yard.........but.......I’ve decided instead to put a turnback siding in for the Kenny Belle, whether it’s a 4TC or DMU. I’ll need to source a Y point but that can be installed later. It will be long enough to take a decent length train.
  9. Just had an email from RailNscale......new car in 1/148. Citroen BX. Back in the day I nearly bought one of these.....went for the Mk2 Cavalier CDi instead! https://railnscale.com/2020/03/28/citroen-bx/
  10. Apologies if I've posted these before. York Basingstoke Farnborough New Street Coventry
  11. Thank you, Not my photo, a friend who lived in Bugs Hill. I’ve always wondered what the train could be. I’ll properly post the photo today, can only link from my IPad.
  12. Humbrol also produce a paint chart listing other manufacturers equivalent paint colours to Humbrol. Not specifically Railway colours.
  13. Just after the new year I acquired a pair of Arnold POLYBULK hoppers as stand in Ferry vehicles. These are the flat sided type. Here are some comparison photos with the Farish POLYBULK which of course is a different prototype. The Arnold ones are only 95mm long when the UK versions should be 120mm (60ft). Diagram E442.
  14. Not much progress today as I had other jobs to do. Another fiddle Yard road laid and a third set up for fixing down. Nearly had a bit of a bloomer as I spotted that the PECO short points don’t adhere to the standard track centres if you lay them consecutively. I’ve reverted to a medium at each end instead.
  15. Like this maybe.......undated image. https://zenfolio.page.link/ViR36
  16. Monk Bar Models York. MAIL ORDER RESUMED! Having reviewed our procedures we are now able to resume mail order for orders placed through our website www.monkbarmodelshop.co.uk Please bear with as delivery times maybe longer than usual as we are operating with skeleton staff (myself!) to maintain a safe workplace. If you have any queries, please e-mail us at info@monkbarmodelshop.co.uk Thanks PS it’s not me doing the mail order.
  17. To finish a couple of shots of the station area. First one is looking north, the other southwards.
  18. Today the final tracks were relaid. Next stage will be to complete the fiddle Yard. I left Kevin to tidy up while I made a cuppa......when I got back he was asleep still eating bananas! Tidy up obviously meant something different to him...... everything piled on the fiddle yard.
  19. Found my Central Division track plans.....this is dated May 1966. If anyone wants blow ups of other parts just ask.
  20. I have this picture of the return empties at Lewes. I have a few WTTs from the era, I’ll check them later....might even have a track layout diagram of the cement works. https://zenfolio.page.link/aFmW5
