  1. Loadhaul route learner anyone? Excellent news Mike
  2. I wonder if they get a lot of returned books?...
  3. 49395

    Gresley suburbans

Most likely a different running number Mike
  4. A bit of an update We've got track working on the 2 main scenic boards! These short videos show our first tests with my Hunslet 4-6-0. There is a small amount of track still to be laid up to the sector plate, then 3 of 4 boards should be working! This is an overall shot of the layout And a few detail photos Cheers Mike
  5. On the way to set up at Gateshead show this weekend we were behind a van covered in UKIP and 'out of the EU' stickers. The van was owned by a company specialising in French polishing and furniture repair.... Alas no photo as it was dark and we were driving. Mike
  6. Its looking good, you certainly don't hang about! Will it go round a 3'6" curve? Mike
  7. Its coming on well James, looking forward to seeing it up close in a week or so (no pressure...) How about something like spraymount? Its not cheap though. I think they make some more permanent versions than the usual stuff too. Wallpaper paste could be worth a try though. Mike
  8. Spotted 60099 crossing the bridge over the A19 near the Tyne Tunnel again this morning shunting near the Jarrow oil terminal (I think) It seems to have been on that train most of last week as well Mike
  9. Thanks Gareth PM sent Thanks for the info about the wagon colours, it wil be most helpful. Mike
  10. Thanks Gareth, we are fairly sure on the loco's, the colours seem well documented for those. When you say the wagons were originally delivered in grey, does that rule out any repaints in drab? Fortunately we only have a couple of wagons painted between us, so painting the rest (or all of them) either grey or drab isn't a problem. We should* be able to make a 2014 deadline! * Barring events outside our control! Thanks for the interest in the layout, we are aiming to have another meet up next week to hopefully progress things a bit, there should be some sort of update soon(ish) after. Cheers Mike
  11. Yes thats the one. 47482, like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/david_christie/6008134634/ Mike
  12. You've done a nice job on that 3f I can't see it fitting in easily on most of your current layouts though... I've got a late crest BR version on the go, (very very slowly) I think you already know which one its going to be finished as... Mike
  13. Very nice! Tempting too... What sort of price range do you expect it'll be? Mike
  14. Why is it that a kitbuilt chassis only binds when running forwards? The damned thing runs fine in reverse...

Maybe build it the other way around next time ;)

I’ve been building, (OK - stopped decades ago), a 5” gauge Jinty. I’ve been searching China for a cheap 600mm vernier calaper ~(£70-ish) to continue machining the rods.

Have a look on Chronos (not sure on the spelling) web site.

  15. The ratio bogies look a lot deeper top to bottom than the parkside ones, it might be worth standardising on one type. (Whichever you prefer) The bottom crossmember (?) on the ratio bogies looks to angle down towards the middle whereas the parkside seems to angle up. Parkside sell their diamond frame bogies seperately*, or they did when I scratchbuilt some warflats a few years back. (* As do ratio I think) There were drawings of the ramp wagons and warflats in Railway Modeller a while back, sometime in 1996 I think, I have the article somewhere if you need it. (Or do you mean Gramodels are planning one, in which case I'll keep a look out) Looking good though, what are you planning on loading them with? Mike
  16. See my workbench thread for a video of my working 7mm scale Priestman dragline...

  17. I think thats the WW2 version, The 70's version has straight solebars and a fishbelly girder behind. I seem to remember people saying the Genesis warwell was fiddly as you had to form the floor from a single flat piece, not sure about the warflat, surely it can't be as bad, its a flat floor and straight sides for a start. I scratchbuilt a warwell using appleby bogies and jacks, there was an article in Model Rail a few years back with a drawing, and another article on MOD trains in Rail Express with a couple of drawings I think, definately a warwell drawing and maybe a warflat. I think there may even be a Plastruct I section that is about the right size for the warflat solebars, I think thats what I used for one of those. Mike
  18. Hi guys, Thanks, we are gradually working on the layout, unfortunately we haven't taken any photos recently as there hasn't been too much progress that would show up in photos. I managed to just about finish a 3 way point for one of the fiddle yards yesterday, and a lot of the trackwork is now almost complete. It would be good to have something on the O14 site, most of the photos we have are on this thread, but I'm sure we can sort something out between the 3 of us. Thanks for posting the photo links, that has proved to be a very useful site whilst planning and building the layout, as has the imperial war museum site. Hopefully it will all be running soon. Cheers Mike
  19. Why is it that some people drive at 40 mph everywhere? Even in a 30...

Ride at 40 in a 30 cos the people doing 40 stop you going faster!

Country lanes maybe, except they drive at 20 on those round here. (I don't take prisoners on them, the whole lots narrow..)

Those driving at 40 are usually on a straight, wide A road with no traffic about on a perfect day... (With a huge tailback behind them)

  20. If you add another couple of capstans, yes This is my take on chain shunting from the 2010 challenge I've used Langley S link chain, the finest type they sell, it seems to run smoother than athe regular stuff. Cheers Mike

Hope these are some use, I'm tempted to try one of these now Mike
  22. Thanks, flattery indeed! There's a link to my layout thread in my signature, I drew the line at a powered capstan though. I thought the trouble would be getting the 'rope' to grip the capstan properly and let go when you wanted it to stop. The capstan itself shouldn't be a problem, a casting like I used and a decent motor and gearbox (I considered a 108:1 and a mashima) Or if you have a parallel track and no obstructions you could shunt with a chain or shunting pole (you'd need a suitable pocket on the loco and a baulk of timber for the latter though) Cheers Mike

    Model Rail Sentinel

I have just received a similar email regarding the LNER version: "Thank you for your order. The following items have now been packed in our mail room and will be despatched as soon as possible: MR-002 MR Dapol Sentinel Steam Locomotive number 150 " Edit: There was a painted LNER version on the Dapol stand at member's day last weekend, I don't know if it was powered or not but it was stood on a Model Rail box so could have been a production version, I didn't get time to ask.
