  1. Thanks for the offer, based on the build date I’m assuming the cab is the same as the Hattons model, it’s the 1906-1920 cab with the curved cutout I’m looking for info on Regards Mike
  2. Does anyone know of a scale drawing of the earlier pattern cab for one of these locos? Like this: https://ribblesteam.org.uk/exhibits/steam/andrew-barclay-1598-1918-efficient/ Cheers Mike
  3. Thanks for the advice Giles, I’m now waiting on loads of bits arriving so I can have a go at a lorry. I’ve also found a diecast dumper model which might have potential (it’s a bit like the one about 4 minutes into this video) Many thanks Mike
  4. Incredible work Giles. This thread has inspired me to have a go at converting a vehicle or two, I’m wondering if you can give any suggestions on suitable transmitters for the deltang receivers? Thanks Mike
  5. Does anyone have a test print file for things like wall thicknesses, rivet sizes etc. that they’d be prepared to share? cheers Mike
  6. As part of a small group purchasing a photon between us we’ve just ordered one new off eBay for about £245 delivered, there’s a few similar listings, an example is: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F392320218838
  7. Your model of Aerolite is absolutely beautiful. I’m looking to start a model myself and I’m looking for a drawing if one is available. Do you have a source for a drawing at all? it looks like you’ve used parts of a Bachmann J72 for the smokebox and boiler fittings, is this correct? Many thanks Mike
  8. I’m hoping that someone may be able to point me in the direction of a scale drawing for the NER loco Aerolite. Ideally I’m looking for 4mm scale but I can work around that with key dimensions. Edit: forgot to mention I’m looking for a drawing in it’s current 2-2-4 form Cheers Mike
  9. A big thanks to everyone who attended the show this weekend and to all those who helped run the show, I hope that everyone had a good time and a safe journey home.
  10. You’re making a really good job of the armoured train. I have one of the same kits in my build queue, is there any chance of some pictures of how well the 9f chassis fitted into the loco body? Is it a loco drive or tender drive version? When I eventually get a start made building mine I’ve added plastic soldier company panzer iv turrets and pz38t kits to replace those in the kit, I managed to find some 1/72 wirbelwind turrets as well for the flak wagons from S&S models Thanks Mike
  11. Hi Lars, I designed an etched coupling which was as close to a scale WDLR pattern centre buffer as I could, while incorporating the delayed operation of couplings like DG or Dinghams, there’s a pin and delay latch etched onto the coupling at one end of each piece of stock, and a wire loop on the other. If I was to do this again I’d make certain aspects of the couplings bigger (like the upright pin) which would make the operation more reliable Also they’re really fiddly to build which doesn’t help, small pieces of square (coupling shank) and round (loop pivot) tube are required, which need to be soldered in place For the most part they are quite reliable but are very susceptible to track and rolling stock defects, especially the B class wagons with a short wheelbase and long overhangs
  12. A small update from Darlington show And an idea of things to come This part built Joffre isn’t completely appropriate for the layout, but rule 1 applies.... It will eventually end up facing the other way when complete, the overhang on the cab end is a bit much for the couplings otherwise
  13. Hi Lars This weekend we’re exhibiting at the Darlington show, so we’re finishing off setting up this morning, I’ll try and add a couple of photos to the thread when we’re up and running
  14. I’m not sure about the particular kit you mention, but conventionally the etched line is on the inside of the fold
  15. Over the weekend I’ve managed to get most of the remaining bits and pieces fixed to the J24 This shows how far I’ve got There’s a few little bits left to do, such as the backhead, pickups and couplings, along with the last of the painting
  16. Following a recent house move I’ve managed to get a bit of time to progress my J24 The tender has been finished about 6 years and much of the loco was built not long after Over the last few days I’ve got the sanding gear linkages added, along with most of the remaining handrails. The boiler fittings are loosely positioned for the photo, I’m hoping to get these fixed in their proper places this weekend. This will be finished as 1852 of Middlesbrough shed, it’s not beyond possibility that it worked the line and it’s also suitable for another club project we’re in the early stages of, which is set in part of Middlesbrough
  17. The cameras are a really good idea and I think you've sold us on a similar setup for our next layout, it makes operating from the front a lot less intrusive so long as things are behaving themselves. Things ran almost faultlessly when I had a turn operating (apart from operator error, I had plenty of that....) The sound is personal preference of course (I'm not sure what a J24 should really sound like) but I did reckon the coasting sounds shouldn't be quite as loud as the loco under load. My initial doubts were based on hearing the coasting sounds from a distance and mistakenly thinking that to be the main 'chuffing' noise
  18. Day 3 of Tracks To The Trenches at Apedale has seen the debut of our first 40hp Simplex running under its own power. The chassis is fully sprung and is completely under the floor, allowing the full interior to be fitted
  19. In a break from running our layout I caught the Baldwin passing the Hunslet Also earlier in the day the Hunslet on what appeared to be a test run before the event opened
  20. Thanks for the kind comments, with regards to the colour, that probably varies greatly depending on who you ask. We've based ours on restored rolling stock at Apedale, we'll be there next month for Tracks To The Trenches with the layout. There are a few photos of the real wagons in this thread. The colour we've used is Halfords grey primer, which we think is fairly close.
