  1. Is this the shunter? http://www.llangollen-railway.org.uk/davydieselshunter.html
  2. Considering how long you said it had been since the 20 had last run I thought it behaved rather well earlier. A few tweaks and it should be even better still
  3. Another couple of hours work this evening has seen the 2 plank LNWR open start to take shape. There's still a bit left to do on both wagons, the 4 plank is a little more finished
  4. Having picked up a set of etches to compensate the Ratio LNWR wagon kits from London Road Models whilst at York, I figured that it might make a quick project to spur me on. The etched chassis fits with minimal modifications (only really needing the solebars thinning to clear the W irons) In the course of a few hours I'd got this far: This is greatly helped by the axleboxes and springs being separate mouldings, meaning no filing down w irons to retrieve them. The 4 plank has ended up compensated with one rocking axle. I had originally intended to spring the chassis but the brake gear position makes fitting pivot points for the springs awkward. The 2 plank wagon yet to be built may be sprung as this will have the single brakes fitted, allowing a bit more room to fit the spring wires. All in all it's been a nice start to a kit where there isn't the need for excessive modification to fit springing or compensation.
  5. Over the last couple of evenings I've been putting together some dingham couplings As a result I can now form a small train The C10 open is basically finished now, and the single bolster just needs painting and lettering. The brake van needs quite a bit doing to finish it and is going to be a bit of an experiment in what I can get away with in P4 as the chassis is basically rigid. If it doesn't work then I'll try and retrofit some of the Dave Bradwell springing units. The next one of these vans will be sprung to start with (hopefully)
  6. Hi Jonathan, I've replaced the buffers with NER pattern tapered versions, also I've removed the later dome and blanked the resultant hole. The replacement castings were from Arthur Kimber, the dome and safety valves are from his B15 kit (same boiler pattern) The new dome is across the next boiler band forward rather than in between two of them. I think the boiler bands should really be in slightly different positions but the difference isn't huge. Also I think some of the washout plugs might need moving, I haven't done this yet though. I've found some early pattern toolboxes for the tender as well Paul (worsdell forever) has also backdated one of these http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/3252-worsdell-forevers-workbench-loads-of-north-eastern-stuff/page-45&do=findComment&comment=2360559 Hope this is some help
  7. Thanks all, As Paul said I've got a few sets of plates from modelmaster for my goods locos. I'll likely be ordering some plates from Narrow Planet for my passenger locos, I've had a few from them for some narrow gauge locos in the past and they were excellent
  8. Thanks Edwardian, For those interested here's a link to the build thread from Ferme du Pont. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/10888-ferme-du-pont-wdlr-1918-0-14/ Also I'm in the early stages of building a layout based on part of the Esk Valley line on the NER set around 1920 http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/127391-howlsike-the-north-eastern-railway-through-the-esk-valley-p4/
  9. Thanks for the opportunity to exhibit our layout this weekend. From what I saw of the rest of the show there was a good variety of scales and types of layout and to a high standard
  10. Day 2 of York show done! Some issues with expanding rails causing short circuits but we may have sorted that Otherwise things have gone reasonably well. Also many thanks to Boris for covering for us over lunchtime, we hope you enjoyed yourself.
  11. We're part way through day one of York show This was the view just as the show opened
  12. Our layout Ferme du Pont is at York show over Easter, it's been something like 10 years in the making (and there's still plenty to do) It's based on the railways used to supply the British army in WW1 http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/10888-ferme-du-pont-wdlr-1918-0-14/
  13. Wagon loads In preparation for York this weekend we're working on adding extra details One of these is a load of 12" HE howitzer ammunition Still to do are the charge cases and a few boxes for fuses and primers
  14. More good progress was made last night, with 2 more boards taking shape. This is the most recent track plan which may be subject to a bit of change once we have the boards together and can experiment with some track
  15. Hi Alan, Yes I'd still be very interested, many thanks.
  16. Each of the scenic boards is 3' x 2', there'll be 4 of these plus the fiddle yard. With any luck we may have more boards built at the next meeting, they go together quite quickly.
  17. More lettering A bit more progress has been made applying wagon lettering First up, for a bit of variety is a D class wagon with yellow lettering Next, the 2 B class wagons have some of the lettering now done, still needing numbers I've also added some lettering to the truck Many thanks must go to fellow club member Paul for the assistance with the transfers
  18. More rolling stock Over the last few nights I've been painting the nearly complete brigadewagen. The brake rigging is still to be finished and couplings are required. Somewhat unhelpfully the coupling mounting position on this wagon is significantly lower than that of the British rolling stock so some ingenuity will be needed.
  19. We're now up to 5 lettered wagons, I've made a start on the second side (the non viewing side) of each and they're about half finished Only about 4 weeks left till our next outing with the layout at York, still plenty to do.
  20. Wagons progress Over the last few days we've been adding lettering to wagons Where possible we'll be basing them on photos of real wagons as there's a lot of variety
  21. So with only a few weeks to go till York show we're working on a few extra details for the layout. I've been working on a suitable truck to fill a space on the road, this kit is a resin model from 1st corps miniatures. There's still quite a lot to do to this to finish it off but it's most of the way there
  22. Recently I've got a set of legs built for the layout and painted the underside of the boards and the lighting rig white. Today I've been trying to get my Hornby Q6 conversion progressed towards completing it and finally having a finished P4 loco. Still to do is the front coupling and the lettering on the other side of the tender, then I need to source some small number plates for the cabsides. (I'd be most grateful if anyone can suggest a supplier of these) It's numbered as a Darlington engine and as far as I can work out (with this type of tender) is the nearest Q6 to Houlsyke in about 1920. Also in the part built queue are these 3 locos, all (mostly) suitable for the layout. The G5 is an Alexander Models body on a 52F chassis and was the first P4 loco I started. The T1 is a 52F kit and the J24 is from North Eastern kits.
  23. At the moment there isn't much to report, other than our next exhibition is York at Easter 2018. Hopefully there'll be some progress spurred on by the looming deadline.
