  1. I've always loved that photo of Torksey - full of interesting details & it was also where my Dad worked at the time :-) Lincoln's much changed now (sadly...) - St. Mark's has been a shopping centre for many years now (my first job as an archaeologist was excavating between the platforms adjacent to High Street in 1987 & we were back there in 1995 in advance of construction finally starting), and the coal depot site is currently being buried beneath a new road linking Tentercroft Street and Canwick Road/Pelham Bridge. I well remember the 'fish' boat on the Witham - I can't recall exactly what happened to it, but something tells me that it actually sunk... Kevin
  2. I had a Landy fitted with a Range Rover 3.5 V8 that was like that... ;-)
  3. Just finished udgrading our Win 8.1 laptop and everything seems to be running fine. It took a couple of hours, but no more than expected, and once I'd deselected everything during the installation that I considered intrusive, went perfectly smoothly. Haven't even looked at Edge, as we're more than happy with Firefox. All-in-all, a happy Windows 10 user (having said that, I also liked 8.1, which wasn't everybody's experience), but we'll have to see how the relationship develops...
  4. "Tired of waiting"? So move on, then...
  5. The little octagonal former crossing keeper's cabin on the eastern side of the road is still there (as shown at the bottom of this page): http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~owend/I/R/stnpages/lincolnstmarks.html Made an excellent 'tea-hut' when we were digging on the site before the magistrates' court was built...
  6. 45070 was my last Peak & it took me YEARS to finally track the damn thing down. Ironically, though, after spending a large proportion of my spotting days in prime Peak territory around Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, etc., I finally saw it ambling through my home-town of Lincoln while I was waiting for the train home from work...
  7. Sorry Dave, but the only thing that's wearing thin around here is the fact that you can only press the 'Like' button once per post...
  8. Excellent photos as usual Dave, but unless I'm much mistaken, C4345 is a Class 40 rather than a 37 :-)

I'd agree - unless it's some sort of bizarre optical illusion, it's almost as if they've forgotten about the opening 'hopper' bit at the top of the windows...
  10. Absolutely superb, that last batch (although it's a little unfair to just single out one group )
  11. DJM Knockers? I didn't know they did them - what scale...?
  12. It's funny you should say that, but I went into our recently-opened branch for the first time last night, and they do indeed sell jars of impressively-sized bratwurst... :-)
  13. I'm pretty sure I have a newspaper clipping from the time it was 'installed' showing it being craned onto the short section of track, but I can't lay my hands on it at the moment. I think it was withdrawn in 1988, so probably late '88/early '89 for its deposition date. As for when it disappeared, I really can't remember, as by the '90s I was firmly ensconced in my car & my daily train trips to work were a distant memory...
  14. It had a fairly long association with Lincoln (or at least it felt like it - in actual fact, I think it was from Donny originally), so when it was withdrawn, it was bought by the City Council & 'stuffed & mounted' on a section of display track between the High Street signal box & (the then) Platform 5 of the station. An ex-BR Ruston 165DE - latterly Class 97/6 97650/PWM650 - was similarly treated outside the old steam shed at East Holmes. It stayed there for quite a while before being moved to the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway at Ludborough (albeit still owned by Lincoln City Council), where it's been restored to running condition (the Ruston ended-up there, too, I believe).
  15. 16. Having been in awe of the beasts for most of my formative years, I remember having a conversation with the driver of a Gainsborough MRS charter trip to Edinburgh in May '86 - he was a long-standing ECML veteran, so we asked him what it had been like to drive our beloved Deltics? "Bloody horrible!", he said, "I hated the bloody things - plenty of power, but you couldn't see owt out of them little windows!" Bit chastening to say the least, but what did he know, eh...?
  17. Can't believe I haven't noticed this thread before - my favourite class of 'big' diesel! My first experience with the Deltics would have been in the mid-seventies watching the Sunday diversions at Saxilby station on the GN&GEJt. Then, after my Mam decided I was old enough to be let loose on my own (probably in 1978/9, when I was 11/12), a couple of East Midlands Rangers every summer holiday, meant blasting up & down the ECML between Donny & Peterboro' amongst other delights! Unfortunately, I only had a really cr*p camera at the time (Kodak 126 Instamatic), so these are the best photos I have to show for it... Since their sad demise in BR service, I've crossed the survivors' paths more than a few times in preservation, including the 'Deltic 50' gathering at Shildon in 2011, which was very special indeed. Deltic photos A couple of videos from 'Deltic 50', too... 55002 'KOYLI start-up - 'Deltic 50', Locomotion, Shildon, 9th October 2011 D9009, 55002 & 55022 running - 'Deltic 50', Locomotion, Shildon, 9th October 2011
  18. C167 with the 9F almost looks like a painting - wonderful stuff! :-)
  19. I was really hoping to go, but then the in-laws inconsiderately had to get married 50 years ago this weekend, so I've been grounded... :-(
  20. We had a trip out to the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway at Ingoldmells, Skegness last month to have a look at the WD stock (which was actually all squirrelled-away in the shed, but they were kind enough to let us have an impromptu tour ) WD Ambulance wagon WD Class D wagon (1) WD Class D wagon (2) WD Class D wagon (3) WD Class P ration wagon They also have a variety of stock from the Ashover & Sand Hutton Light Railways & the Nocton Potato Railway, there's a short ride to be had (Ashover coach & 'dressed-up' Simplex) & everybody was very approachable & friendly, so all-in-all it was a very good trip!
  21. I must say I'd never heard the term 'bog-cart' before I came across it on RMweb - in the '70s & '80s we always called them 'bog-units', but maybe we're just posh in Lincolnshire...
  22. WOW...!! No, sorry, that's all I've got - just WOW!!!
