  1. Back in post 61 i mentioned an episode of the Bill (episode: some you win some you loose) featuring Old Oak Common. It shows a number of 50's and 47s and a view of the turn table. All now gone of course. Scenes start at 24 mins and 26.18. Paul http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wKSU-wSLGg
  2. This and the £100 layout thread make interesting reading, its great watching back to basics stuff. Paul
  3. A decent slow speed loco is a must too. Hornby's little 0-4-0 chassis is ok for racing but not for shunting. Paul
  4. Just had a look through Diecast collector mag in smiffs and saw first castings of a Scania 110 and a bonneted t cab scania in 1/76th. Also Scammell highway man - which i think was previously announced. Paul
  5. Which just goes to show some of the complex issues involved in model making when people get upset about xyz model not being available/late Paul
  6. I think after the class 58s the next loco class was the 31s in 1985. Paul
  7. These arrived yesterday. Though the pleasure of owning them has been dampened by the price rise. Paul
  8. Why the tarpaulins? Is it a finer blend of coal or different commodity altogether? Paul
  9. Bit of a coincidence considering the incident with 70018. Paul
  10. Just seen the professionals on ITV 4 - episode called the purging of CI5. With brief glimpses of a 47, 37 and various stock. Start at 2.03 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEdOl9MrMuU Love these shows and the sweeny were informants are met in disused goods sheds/power stations etc! Paul
  11. My Heljan BR Blue D8529 is still running ok. it is from the original batch and does require a bit more umph to get going, then needs slowing down, after which it runs well. I would like to fit a DCC decoder in it but fear it might be the straw that breaks the camels back. I would like to know how many other orignals are still going strong. Regards Paul
  12. WNXX site is reporting a setback for the baby deltic project http://www.wnxx.com/news/index.htm Paul

  14. When construction finally starts will we have class 14's running trains like HS1? Or will DBS have a pool of departmental 60's!! Paul
  15. Quite right. There are only so many colours you can paint a shed. Paul
  16. I bought 4 of these over xmas 2 EWS and 2 RF sector - Should have read this thread first! Never mind i wll have to do a spot of weathering! Fantastic wagons especially with the options for the load. I have kept the cradles on but after a few laps the coil loads are moving along the cradles. Maybe a spot of blue tack is required. Paul
  17. And this is what was on it! http://www.flickr.com/photos/62160118@N04/5655241628/in/set-72157626469109761 Also an early episode of the Bill featured DCI Mike dashwood chatting with an informer on the turntable at Old Oak Common with various locos in the background. Paul
  18. Heljan are in the business of making money and they obviously think they will get their money back on these releases. Remember both the 14 & 28 were comissioned by Hattons, though Heljan may well have done these too at a later date. Though i am no steam expert i bet there are quite a few who would buy a Bulleid Leader. Paul
  19. Got my GSYP today. I am very pleased with it though the buffer beam details were more delictate than the co-bo and proved a little trouble some to remove enable the tension lock coupling to fit in one end. One of the few locos i have bought before its been reviewed in the magazines! Paul
  20. mark you can just pull them out with small pliers. I have. Paul
  21. A short promo video on youtube here: Paul
  22. Looks like i may have to buy some of these! I worked at the Hull Birdseye site for 17 years till it closed in 2007 ( though i still have connections with the company). Some of my older co -workers said there was talk of the site being connected with a rail siding in the 70's but nothing came of it. A little shunting layout with my 03 sounds good! Paul
  23. Yes, they were still at Barnetby last week. Here they are in November 2010 being past by 66066. Paul
