  1. Cheers for that, gives me some options. Arguably I might get away with semaphores southbound with colour lights north but I think on a model it would look odd even it it was known to happen in reality. Would the signal box be closed down if colour lights were employed? Cav
  2. It is N gauge yes, really got the N bug now. Im even considering selling off all of my 4mm stuff now. Anyway a little play with couplings. Got myself some dg couplings and I must say Im very impressed. Easily built and work a treat. Heres a pre blackened one and a loopless one fitted to the 47. Cav
  3. It will look better mate, cracking stuff so far. I have a 47 and some mk 1s that would look nice on there if not a bit out of its way! I think that Neil is concentrating on other things at the moment but he's certainly still around. I have no reason to think that he is not OK. Cav
  4. I like it Andy and the sharp curves look to work ok in the scottish setting. Looking forward to seeing some greenery on this. Cav
  5. N is the future certainly. I have embraced it big time, my last N layout was a good 20 years ago and the quality of rtr now available is incredible. I have also honed my skills somewhat since then and modifying the stock is much more doable. I cant see me going back to 4mm any time soon. Dont worry I will start Millers Dale as soon as Outon Road leaves me room to build it. Cav
  6. George those lines are shocking, they are certainly not the same widths, after my recent escapades with FOX transfers I will be very reluctant to ever darken their doors again. Cav
  7. Well Andy just caught up with this and I must say great progress since speaking to you at Mansfield. Nice background story on the area I must say, the lodge is a nice feature, the scenics need work though! I hope that I can get cracking as fast with Millers Dale once Outon's departed! Cav
  8. Yeah I know that Jim but Im not going to pin the layout to one day in 1987, thinking more of a period really. Millers Dale closed down back the 60s so Im sure that if I reserect the whole line then I can keep a 25 from under the torches for a few months. Cav
  9. Yes Andy that was my reason for suggesting semaphores in the first place. There are still semaphores all around peak forest and buxton. Cheers for the Hugh, I will have to pick up a 25 once the prices drop I think! Cav
  10. That may well be near enough to justify a 25. The last 25 was withdrawn in 87 which was also the year that sectorisation came in. I may be able to overlap a bit if I'm careful. Cav
  11. Loads as I love 31's!! I hear you however I do like the railfreight grey 37's and HST's & 47's in Executive intercity so mid 80's suits me most! Cav
  12. Great shots there Hugh. What year was that do you know? Cav
  13. I like the Dapol signals and would probably go for them if I went semaphore. I don't really know if mixing is really prototypical? I think it would probably look odd as well tbh. Cav
  14. Considering semaphores for the layout as the areas around peak forest and Buxton still rock them. The question I have is if there were some major track and station remodelling as I'm planning would the signalling have been replaced with colour lights or would the existing semaphores have been reused and relocated to suit? Cav
  15. Really like the wagons but weren't built until 1988 which puts them a gnats whisker out of the time period for me. Of course I could set myself a time span of say 1985 to 1990 and then I can run all this stuff!! Cav Plus the NGS kit is still just shy of £20 a wagon which is a fair chunk of wedge!
  16. ooh I'm sure we can squeeze a steam special or two in!! Cav
  17. Nice work. There is a surprising amount of room in the N gauge stuff. I'm not sure whether sound is as relevant in N though, would need to be very quite for scale sound I feel. Ok at home but in exhibition it would be lost I reckon. Whats the sound quality like with the tiny speakers? Cav
  18. Sounds good Andy, I am quite happy with N thanks. Really got the 2mm bug now!! Bit like this from 1980? (photo courtesy of Derby Sulzers website) Cav
  19. I think you guys are trying to bankrupt me with the stock list! haha. Maybe I will add a new Bachmann/farish 25 when they show. Thanks for the compliment on the 47. It really looks the biz in the flesh. Ive also managed to pick up a 45 and an hst set so things are coming on! Cav
  20. Might be pushing it a bit for a 25. The last one was withdrawn in march 1987. I can see Im gonna have to allow for much more traffic than I had originally thought for this route! Cav
  21. Which yard? Behind the station? That yard will be for loading and unloading of vans for fertilizer and animal feed. It will have the old goods shed refurbished as a modern loading/unloading facility. The HEAs will be through services. Cav
  22. Brilliant suggestions there, will certainly follow some of those suggestions. The layout will be set around 1987 to allow me to run class 45s and the like plus the first locos of the sector period. I would like to do the tiphook hoppers but those autoballasters are crazy expensive. They fall just outside the timescale though so a bit of a reprieve there. Cav
  23. I agree. In fact its still very thin on the ground for late 80s early 90s stuff! Cav
  24. No Andy they dont go into the nems they are a brass etch fold up type commonly used by the 2mm modellers. They are very discrete and work well but you have to make them up yourself. The cost about a fiver for 8 pairs. Cheers for the compliments Jo Im really happy with how the 47 came out appart from the numbersets but lesson learned. Fox never got back to me. I would love to be able to use fully made up numbersets but I dont know anyone with an ALPS printer. Cav
