Now you've discovered AG knobs, are you going to replace those monstrosities on the cabside handrails?
-
Neat. I like it!
So does that mean when you do the other side you'll put the reverser screw thread in?
edit: Rats, I can't post the drawing in your blog - I'll mail it to you...
-
How come I keep missing all these wonderful blogs? That is really looking rather special. Can't make the AGM this year, but I hope I'll see it soon. You never know, I might build Holbeck yet!
-
No idea Mikkel! One of the local model shops had it in, it comes in white, unbranded plastic buckets holding about 2kg, and has "Fine Ballast" written on the side in permanent marker. Does that help?
-
They're not even the real platforms yet, just templates for making the real thing.
-
Funny you should say that. Looking at the photos a moment ago I realized that the viewer has no chance of knowing what I have been seeing in my mind's eye, namely that the front deck is imagined to be wider than what we are seeing on the layout (so the pillars are not at the edge of the deck).
I suspect that's purely an artifact from seeing the edge of the balsa sitting on the foamboard. Because we see the materials as separate, we naturally assume that's a platform edge too. Dress the front so you don't see the transition and I suspect all will be well.

I like it! When you build the mezzanine, don't forget to add offices for the foreman and clerical staff, with nice big windows so they can keep an eye on those good for nothing work-shy types downstairs.

You didn't use the one with the dodgy tracks did you?
-
Well, you're getting an extra. The offcut of copper clad I picked up to do this is big enough for two boards, so if the etching goes to plan you'll have a spare!
If I could post pics here I'd show it before it gets dunked...
-
Ah, so that's what it looks like! I'm just off down Maplins to get some more etchant...
-
Nice! Pillars in the six foot?
-
Very clean job. What did you use to glue the foamboard? I have the same issues as you with cutting at 90 degrees, but rather than keep on practising, I think I might well knock up another jig/tool for the job.
-
Looks a bit more like a heavy frost than snow, but it's probably worth persevering with.
-
Interesting plan. Can't wait for construction to get underway!

Sorry folks, I rather forgot about this blog! I'm not sure who's kit the J is, I'll ask Mike next week for more details, but I remember he was very complimentary about the way it went together.
The TTU is now new and improved, the body is back on and it has a tiny two pin connector unobtrusively mounted, so it can be used as normal as well.

Can't wait to see how the ghost comes out!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's peering at the iTunes window in pic#6 to see what's playing?
-
Hmm, but when I buy a loco kit,
I want entertainment value from it.
A mere two hours to build a chassis,
that's barely worth an abasis

I look forward to seeing more of this build Darren, I bought a Falcon/Jidenco Ivatt 4MT from the bring and buy stand at Scaleforum, and with their reputation I was curious as to how one of their kits would go together in actuality. The instructions in mine are a little basic, and I think this may be the cause of most of the reported issues, but we'll soon see. Good luck.
Oh, and regarding builders, stock up on chocolate Hobnobs, and you'll soon have them on your side!

Oh DJH
your frames of brass
crude and ugly
end in the trash.
Oh DJH
When will you learn
to nickel silver
you must now turn.
Sorry!
There has been progress, honest, though the photo's don't show it!
