  1. How did you change boiler ports 45059? I fear I may have some boiler port alterations to make on my fleet..... Cheers. Sean.
  2. That looks like the blinds are still present to me Dave, all be it some are perhaps overwound/missing. I'd agree, it would be a shame to waste one by just dumping it. That said, perhaps an old Bachmann body/Lima bogie combo off ebay? I did get some Lima bogie frames for my upcoming detail-a-thon, possibly from Inter - City models? Cheers. Sean.
  3. Did 40162 still have headcode blinds fitted when she was dumped at Haymarket during the early 80's? Probably not the best use of a Bachmann 40, but a viable excuse for a headcode fitted example. Cheers. Sean.
  4. I think therein lies the problem 298, nobody really wants the loco especially considering the state she is in now..... I understand, (although I don't know the facts), that there was a legal dispute between the purchaser from BR, (or EWS at the time), and the Battlefield Line which led to the loco getting into an even worse state than when she was first purchased. Such a shame really..... Cheers. Sean.
  5. I'm afraid I'd have to disagree 298. One only has to look at some of the rusting hulks that were rescued from Barry Island to see that in some cases, chucking money at a project can have its benefits. Also, you suggest that "Just because something can't do what it used to do, doesn't mean it shouldn't be preserved" cannot relate to some and not all loco's and using that logic, one assumes you'd be happy to see this loco cosmetically restored, (perhaps with it's original nose?). Cheers. Sean.
  6. Be sure to post progress on your work JSP and if you start a thread, feel free to link it here. Cheers. Sean.
  7. To be fair, I'd have expected that anyone wishing to preserve an AC electric would have considered the fact that it needs some sort of outside power source when making the decision to save it! Since you mention headcode boxes, I believe D100 was preserved without them and it has been very nicely restored and the boxes reinstated, so I stand by my comment that this locomotive IS unique, just because it no longer has the equipment that makes it so, doesn't take away the fact. That said, although I'd like to see D14 in its former glory, I feel it is very unlikely this will ever happen although I think I've already mentioned the Co Bo and class 15 as truimphs in locomotive restoration. The problem with D14 as I see it is that there are already a good number of Peaks that are preserved and so less incentive to sort this one out. If she happened to be the last survivor, I'd bet she'd be well on the way to ex works condition. Cheers. Sean.
  8. I'm expecting our first in March Forest. Any modelling window will be boarded up from then I feel..... Cheers. Sean.
  9. Hi JSP, Forest, all. JSP, I'm not sure if the Roco chassis is available, as I've not really looked for one. I'd imagine they'd have a website, but I'd try ebay for a second hand one which may yield a chassis? Forest, I've seen your class 83 build, (although I never got round to messaging Judith Edge kits about those etches. Just too much on I guess. I haven't seen updates on a finished model, any pictures? Cheers. Sean.
  10. No worries reviving the thread jsp - I looked in on it wondering who had started it only to find out it was actually me! May I ask where the body was sourced from as I still haven't got any further with doing one myself? As for chassis, on page one, somebody mentions one by Roco I believe? Cheers. Sean.
  11. Very well put Martin. I also think that the digital camera and what I sometimes refer to as "cruel close ups" can show blemishes which are actually hardly visible to the human eye. A great thing when one is striving for perfection, but important not to be too self critical also. Colin, the paint work is champion and you have nothing to worry about and lets face it, if you're still not happy, there's always a coat of brown you can cake her in..... Smashing work as always. Cheers. Sean.
  12. Great photo's! I especially like the side view with D200 in the background. I'm just wondering if, (for a total comparison), you could reverse the loco's to show the comparable gap of the new model although from the 3/4 view it looks to be smaller than D200s. Thanks for posting. Sean.
  13. This is a good idea Geoff. Perhaps we could post pictures in this thread to show what is available. I have 5 waiting for detailling etc and am still not sure I have the correct ones for the loco's I want to model and am not sure if there are more suitable versions available for my particular needs. A picture of any unmodified Bachmann 47 will surely help others to make informed decisions and I am happy to trawl through my stock boxes to find mine and post pictures over the weekend. What do others think? Cheers. Sean.
  14. Fair point Colin. I just looked back at the picture and it looks like you have possibly used the HMRS transfers? Either way, it's the clear part with the "British Railways" legend that scuppers my plan I think. Regardless, the unit still looks the mutts nuts! Cheers. Sean.
  15. Colin. Could you apply a fresh, (correct), transfer over the wrong facing one and then add a bit more varnish? Just a thought..... Cheers. Sean.
  16. Flip! It's going to bug me now where I've seen it! I'd better keep looking..... Cheers. Sean.
  17. Hi Phil. Have a look earlier on in the book. I'm almost certain there's a picture of her in Crewe works, maybe on the frontspiece, she's standing next to a little platform and is sparkling. If the picture is not in that book, I can't think where it is, but it certainly seems like the one you mentioned above. Cheers. Sean.
  18. I seem to recall the Strathwood Class 40 book has a picture of D200 ex works in Blue. I'll try root it out and see if it's dated. Cheers. Sean.
  19. In principal, I agree with the four posts above, and I accept that I tend to look through rose tinted glasses in most cases. When one looks at the Metro Vic Co - Bo and perhaps even the NBL type 1, though I'd have to say nothing is impossible. I know these two are the last of their type and as such, deserve to be restored, whereas 45015 is the last of a type where other body styles still exist. I do wonder if other Sulzer equipment, (maybe from foreign loco's still extant (there is a loco class in Poland similar to the class 47)). It's all a bit of a pipe dream, but hey, we can all dream. Unfortunately, I'm at a place in my life where I couldn't do much to help, but given half a chance, I'd have a go! Maybe in a few years time if she hasn't rusted into the ballast beneath her..... Cheers. Sean.
  20. The picture of 1775 was taken on the day I was born Mike. Daft really, as I'd always assumed you were only a couple of years older than me, you must have had an easy paper round..... ;o) Cheers. Sean.
  21. The first one in the set above of the Sulzer type 4 is Sheffield perhaps? Cheers. Sean.
  22. Thanks Colin. Without wishing to sound arrogant, (always difficult when not actually speaking.....), I was aware of the two profiles, but only because I was having a search for finescale wheels and found that Black Beetle also supply the same grade wheels and axles only. needless to say, my power, (Buffet), car has finescale motor bogie and trailing bogie wheels both supplied by Black Beetle. Just a heads up for all those DMU/EMU modellers out there. Cheers. Sean.
  23. She's quite accessiable by the looks of it then. If I do get some pictures, I'll post them for a then and now comparison. I was going to press "like", but I've gone for the "useful" as, how can anyone like a loco in that state.....! Cheers. Sean.
  24. What was wrong with the Replica nose seams Ian? I always found it bizarre that Bachmann missed them off some models as well as the exhaust ports on the early class 44 model. Probably something for another thread, but I read that the bodyside grills on the Bachmann models were also incorrect, but I don't see it myself. Cheers. Sean.
