  1. The problem I have with Win 10 is that a lot of the software I use for work doesn't work on Win 8, so what are the chances of it working on 10. The only OS that work with all the things that I need only work with XP. I'm going to stick with Win 7 for personal use and XP for work.
  2. So many people take directions too literally and don't read any further than the first line. Sergeant Shoutalot was definitely my map reading instructor although this was one of the skills that I found easy. I still remember the rules and use them regularly when walking on Dartmoor
  3. Most people these days would be lost without a satnav. How do you think that they'd get along with a map and compass let alone navigating by the stars and various elements of natures compass
  4. Morning all. Another day of tedium hopefully relieved by some modelling if I get the chance. IDL - With nosebleeds it's worth getting checked by your GP as it could be a sign of high blood pressure. Have a good day everyone
  5. Another day over babysitting my uncle. I've got to do it again today (when I get up). Night all
  6. This I can definitely vouch for. I spent 6 months up in the mountains where the roads were mainly tracks cut into the sides of the mountains with barely enough room for 2 vehicles to pass. It got very interesting when HGV's had to pass each other. The standard of vehicle maintenance isn't great either.
  7. Morning all. Another damp day. Well, what do you expect, it's the weekend I think I've seen virtually all examples of bad driving and lack of control over the years. The worst one was being overtaken on a motorway with the driver eating a burger, using the phone and reading something placed on his steering wheel all at the same time. Polly - One of these days I'll get up to there. I might even manage to get paid for it as well if I'm lucky A few chores today but nothing too taxing. Have a good day everyone
  8. Looking forward to seeing this develop Andy
  9. When it comes to books I couldn't tell you what the best one is. I read a lot unfortunately these days the majority is work related. My favourite is Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I've had several copies that over the years fell apart from over reading. There was always a copy in my military kit when on exercise or deployed somewhere in the world. In fact I gave a (new) copy to my daughter for her 14th birthday.
  10. Evening Jeff. I changed to a Cannon EOS 550D a couple of years ago and definitely wouldn't use anything else. If you use a remote switch in Manual Bulb mode the shutter opens on the first press and releases on the second as long as the battery is charged. I take over 1000 photos a month and only have to charge the battery every 8 weeks or so. Hope this helps
  11. Great to hear about the comments today. An invite to Aldershot would be good. Definitely one I could attend. I hope tomorrow goes as smoothly
  12. Morning all. Not a lot going on today except avoiding the football. Rick - I hope that you can come to a decision that you're happy with. Richard - I saw on the forecast that it was going to be a bit cold this morning but didn't expect you to be de-icing the car. Enjoy DEMU. Polly - Some really nice photos of Chester. One of the few places in the country that I haven't been to. Have a good day everyone
  13. Thanks Ray. I'm babysitting my uncle after a hand operation which means I get to do all the cooking and other related tasks. Otherwise I'd be in Devon anyway.
  14. It looks good so far Brian. I doesn't matter how fast or slow you go, just remember that it is only a hobby and the only person to keep happy is yourself
  15. I wish I could join you but I'm stuck on the other side of the country this weekend. Have a good show
  16. Morning all. I've had to cancel any work today and possibly Monday as well. Cooking and associated duties are on the cards due to my Uncle having an operation on his hand yesterday. Unfortunately no one else is able to help at the moment. Dom - Excellent news of the career change. Jock - Excellent news. You deserve all the good news you can get. Have a good day everyone
  17. Just had a quick catch up. Ian - I don't know about large building / refurbishment housing projects, but I carry all the power tools that I need for my job. John - Although I spend a fair bit of my holiday time less than 12 miles from Sidmouth, I haven't been to the donkey sanctuary for 4 years
  18. Morning all. It looks OK outside at the moment but I think that might change. A quick trip to the other side of Guilford today and an early finish. Have a good day everyone
  19. Just had a quick read through the latest posts. ER's has got to be the most diverse community that I know of. Ian (OD) & Sherry- I hope that the possibility of travelling on the 6th June is a good idea with it being the anniversary of D-Day. Having seen the post from Sherry it seems more than likely to be the 7th. Sorry to hear the news. but as others have said, she wasn't alone. Jock - I hope the consultation goes as you expect. You and your family certainly deserve good news. Ian (Abel) - The holiday certainly seems to be working out well for you even if it is turning out to be more than a bit expensive. AndrewC - You certainly have to make a decision soon if only for the sake of your knee. Gordon - Excellent news on beating the French
  20. Morning all. Bright and warm at the moment. As I had a feeling that yesterday would be a particularly long day, I'd planned to have an easy day today while waiting for a couple of deliveries. I've just received messages that both deliveries will arrive between 16:00 and 17:00. If I'd known yesterday I could have either have stayed near Gloucester last night and visited Avebury today or even done one job today. Have a good day everyone
  21. I don't honestly think that there was an average layout at the show. It will certainly be in my diary next year as a must attend.
  22. Another quick picture from Railex Just one question. Does anyone know this person waving at me? :jester:
  23. Thanks Shaun. I'm going to put some of the ideas gained from Railex into the test plank. I'm hoping to start on Thursday after another site visit for loads more photos.
  24. Today didn't go as planned. What should have been a 2 hour job turned into 5. As I wasn't too far from Avebury, I'd decided to visit after Gloucester. That plan went out of the window when the van developed vibration above 50mph. I suspected that one of the tyres had de-laminated internally and was proved correct when it was taken off the rim. So, as well as delaying me enough so that the visit wasn't worth it, I ended up paying out more money than I earned today. :ireful: Ian - It's good to know that there are TV celebrities out there who are human
