  1. Morning Jason. Thanks for the offer for the steps. I'm going to have a look round over the next couple of days to see what's available although I have to agree with you about etched steps. If I don't find anything I'll let you know. I think I'm also going to be searching for some appropriate window etches. If I have to draw them up in CAD, so be it. Plasticard seems , to me anyway, the best material for the base even though it will need bracing. I have recently found this thread - "Anything You Can do, I Can Do Better ! Robinson and Downes. which has given me some new ideas as well.
  2. Thanks Mike Although it is a bit frustrating at times, I'm quite enjoying the journey. It's certainly a fairly cheap way to improve my scratch building skills being a small structure although I may be tempted to lay my hands on some etches for the windows and stairs. We'll just have to see how it goes.
  3. Have to agree with you Mick. I'm actually enjoying finding out how fine I can work with different materials. Safety. I'm normally pretty good at not cutting myself when modelling, I leave that bit for work. I'm not a fan of red plasticard though especially when using my blood as the colouring

Andy. I'll have to book you when I need back scenes for HA. It looks really good. Hope Peter pops round tomorrow, even if it is just to make sure that you're not doing too much.
  5. Signal box update: Version 3: Was looking good until I tried to get the framing for the window thin enough. 2mm ply doesn't like being that thin. It ends up breaking in so many places. Scrapped Version 4: Started in plasticard. The front face is cut out but I've given up for the night after cutting my thumb twice. Not very clever and difficult to do any fine work with plasters holding your thumb together. If everything carries on like this Jeff will be on KL4 and Andy will have built 10 more layouts after Bitton before I get anything running
  6. For anyone interested. Jeff (Physicsman) has started the new Kirkby Luneside 2 (KL2) thread here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/94282-kirkby-luneside-2/
  7. Evening Jeff. Late to the party as usual. What a start to 2015. KL2 thread started, locos running on Bitton and it's still only the 1st. As far as getting rid of things, why not sell for the best price possible and split the money between you. I am assuming that Steve has his own hobby. Looking forward to the conversion, over engineered timber work and the track mock-ups.
  8. Signal Box Version 1: Looked wrong and scrapped Version 2: Looked alright until the cladding went on. Scrapped Version 3: Started. It already looks better. Photos tomorrow
  9. Loud DIY isn Unfortunately not. Their back garden backs onto mine so would have to be really loud. As for the chainsaw idea, that doesn't work either Firstly I would have to buy one and then find some timber to cut as well. Maybe a nice early alarm call on my way to work next week

Now that's what I call a topic reset
  11. Dull and windy today, not that I'm taking much notice of it. Got to bed at 1 this morning after a relaxing evening only to be woken by what sounded like an artillery barrage at 2am. Seems that the neighbours had been out celebrating and thought it would be a good idea to have a firework display on returning home. Funnily enough, none of them have appeared so far
  12. Happy new year Clive. Great news that you've got it sorted
  13. Looking forward to seeing more of your work in 2015 Lee. I hope it's busier than 2014
  14. Totally agree with you Andy. Looking forward to 2015 and KL2
  15. Nice work with the signal box although with your skills I thought you might have built it from scratch. Looking forward to 2015 on Dent
  16. Not quite. Nice and solid. I tried knocking it over (with the lid on) and failed so that's one problem solved. As for the mug of tea............................I only drink coffee and it was only there for the photo. Normally the mug is to the left and the adhesive to the right.
  17. After a late start this evening, I decided that the only thing to complete is the Mek holder as suggested by Jason
  18. Jason. I think that will be my first job this evening
  19. Morning Chris I'm using some stock of 2mm ply that I've had for ages. As for the facing, I have various sheets of brick. I just need to see what looks right and then plasticard on the top.
  20. Chris and Andy, thanks for your comments Had a good look at the signal box today and although I'm not trying for an exact replica, I wasn't happy with the results. I don't know what it is but I don't think it looks right. So, tonight, with different materials I started on another. So far it's in kit form with other bits to be done before I put it all together. Once I get to that stage the stairs will have to be made. As yet I haven't given this any thoughts.

I'm starting to worry Andy. All this planning can't be good for you. Seriously though, it looks like you have everything covered. Now looking forward to the results.

And the droppers? At this rate we'll reach p150 before the track goes down
