  1. 10mph bump - write-off. Oh well, it's only a car. It's not anything important like a train.

  2. 14 pages in a day and a half - is that a record? (4-wheelers)

Still a great game, though - as were "Frogger", "Lemmings" and "Sokoban".

Of course, this is a personal opinion here ... .

  6. Replacing battery in old iPhone. Scary.

Well apart from the old adhesive strips coming to pieces, requiring a bit of delicately-applied heat and brute force leverage (with my library card), that went OK. It's got a new battery and it booted up with no errors.

Thanks to the people at iFixit.

Just changed battery on a Sony experia, that wasn't too bad, just had to take out 6 torix screws and prise the 2 halves apart... (had to find a youtube video first though!)

    3. eastwestdivide

      eastwestdivide

Sounds OK - I had to deal with 5 different types of screw, 2 strips of hard-to-budge adhesive, a cable that you could have snapped if you opened the two halves without knowing it was there, two connector covers and about 5 connectors to disconnect.

  7. Somebody else's PowerPoint to edit. Aargh.

  8. HI there again,

just had a weekend at my parents' house in Strood, and photographed some old maps (1940-60 ish I think) and a Kelly's directory which may be of help in your background research. Showing lines to the Crown and Quarry cement works among other things.

Let me know if you'd like them emailed.

    Regards,

Thank you for that. It saved my sanity in an unnecessarily tedious conference call.

(in reply to beast66606) Think the view is the other way round - it stopped on the viaduct at 1055ish (slightly late), then headed off to the station

This morning, Glenfinnan is dry but windy and overcast.

At present the camera is doing slow pans across the landscape.

And by the morning of the 28th, the railcam had failed completely.  It must have been all that wind and rain...

I spent a happy hour completing owl jigsaws on the link EWD posted, there's a really nice shot of a barn owl which was very enjoyable - especially as "my" owls are out and about at the moment so I'm seeing plenty of them - they are cleverly avoiding my camera though.

Not just Donny, but all over the north. But my mum says she remembers her grandmother saying it (in East Kent of all places, no northern connection). So a bit of research led to the discovery that she probably heard it on the radio from Tommy Handley's ITMA, a show which I'd vaguely heard of from my elders.

I had a small party coming up, so I went to buy one of those balloons printed with "your message here". The shopkeeper told me it was £5 for the balloon, £10 for printing and £99 if I wanted it blown up with helium. I said that sounded expensive. He said "that's inflation for you".
