  1. Now that Hymek D7054 is finished I have been spending my spare time improving the line. First of all I have been making the garage more suitable for all year running, the roof has a habit of forming condensation on the inside at this time of year, so I have built a waterproof suspended ceiling from advertising display boards so that the condensation can drip harmlessly on the concrete floor rather than the layout. I have also tried to improve the visual apperance of the indoor section by adding a pelmet round the boards. With another batch of these unwanted display boards collected I have now extended the backscene up to the suspended ceiling, this will further improve the appearance I hope & make this part of the line more photogenic ?....... & with an initial coat of paint you can see the effect, I will fill the rest of the semes & joints once this has dried...... Hopefully this will make the indoor section look much better when completed & more importantly make this part of the line weatherproof all year round in the harsh environment of the concrete garage . Next time we will look at the changes I am making to the outdoor section Cheers Phill

  6. Your mentioning D1039 had me looking in my old spotting books to confirm that I needed it. My notes only go back as far as Feb 1974 although my interest started in the summer of 1972 I did notice that my first trip round Bristol Bath Roadon the 16th August 1974 I didn't see a single Western, the only Hydraulic was 7017...a cop for me at the time. A trip to Laira in the same week was much more fruitful with D1048,D1010,D1046,D1047,D1012,D1033,D1035,D1045,D1028,D1006,D1063,D1015,D1023 & D1070 present. Phill
  7. D1039 eluded me too Neil.....although being 10 when she was withdrawn & living in Yorkshire was my excuse , I did manage to see most of them in my spotting days though Great thread Neil! Phill
  8. I have a Westdale GUV although I have not got round to building it yet.....having looked at the parts though I don't think kits get much simpler One piece body & my choice of Easybuild bogies, I would say it could be built in a day Phill P.S. The JLTRT one got very bad reviews when released as I recall & the Heljan is overpriced IMO
  9. Warship 807 Caradoc on a running in turn pilots Western D1041 Western Prince towards the North Devon coast........ Phill

  12. Brilliant stuff Neil ...........keep them coming! Phill
  13. Steve Leyland used a ABC gearbox in his own Class 66 which has superb pulling power & battery hours from a single powered bogie ( he did the same with his Heljan 31).......... they are superb gearboxes IMO
  14. Contrived names where two place names are combined together tend to sound........ erm contrived to me Phill
  15. I'm West Riding born & bred I like the names Bramley or Bramley Moor ........love those pics inside the shed Phill
  16. A friend did the bogies for me CME, they are PRMRP etch bogies made by me but retro fitted with roller bearings & his own gearboxes.........I was going to use ABC gear boxes & may do that in the future as my friend a bit busy now
  17. I still quite fancy doing Falcon by kitbashing one of these Hymeks .......not sure I fancy the £500+ price tag for the Heljan ? Phill
  18. I wonder if replacement tips are available for the solder station?........if not I would not buy personally
  19. Passenger loading's are light on the Withercombe branch in the depths of winter requiring only a single car DMU (Westdale)........ Phill
  20. Great stuff Peter ......watching with much interest Just wondering, but have you considered using that etched power bogie in your Hymek box to power Lion?
