  1. I'll second that. I gave up trying to get mine apart in order to convert it to P4. I took out every screw I could find, but just couldn't work out how the body was being held on. The exploded diagram is as useful as a chocolate teapot. David
  2. From the YouTube video description it would seem that the sound decoder is from ESU. This means that you should be able to change the volume by programming CV63. HTH, David
  3. And maybe a note to the captain to drive carefully in the Suez Canal?
  4. I see people on this thread have managed to remove the body from the chassis. Is there an easy way of doing this without doing any damage? If it is clipped on, then my example is very tight. I would be glad of any helpful tips. David
  5. It may be obvious to you Tim, but with all those complicated pipes and fittings, seemingly permanently fixed, it looked like it might be awkward. It's certainly interesting to get a view of a totally different aspect of railway modelling. Guten Rutsch! (as they say over here), David
  6. Tim, I would imagine that painting this engine will be quite a task. Have you already planned how you'll go about it? David
  7. Printing such a large poster commercially is not cheap, so it is a good idea to get an A4 or A3 test print, of the finished panorama, before commiting to the final print. Then you can check how this works on your layout for colour balance, tonal rendering and sharpness and make any changes that might be necessary before it becomes expensive. PS. While you might want support your local printer, you might find a better deal by using an online printer.
  8. Nothing against Western Thunder, but I think you are comparing apples with pears. There is, to my knowledge, no other forum that covers the same breadth of interest as does RMweb.
  9. It's the right time of year to call it 'Scrooge' membership.
  10. Will, I didn't take any photos of the chassis work, but I'm in the process of doing a similar installation in a Class 37/4. There is one speaker inside the tank moulding. Fitting the 'EM1' size speakers is no big deal, compared to the larger EM2, so there is very little metal to take off for the second speaker. The circuit board will have to be re-fitted further back on the chassis block. The two 4 ohm speakers need to be wired in series, to give an impedence of 16 ohms, which is within the range that an ESU V.4 can handle. HTH, David
  11. Thanks for your comment. It's all down to focus-stacking which gives a much more realistic depth of field (focus?). That last shot was done at 70mm f/11, on a micro four thirds camera, and the resulting 35 frames combined in Helicon Focus software. The wonders of modern technology! David
  12. It's 1984 and another new loco appears at Kinlochmore and it's a namer. Fortunately, our local photographer managed to get some shots of it for the record. 37043 'Loch Lomond' started out as a Bachmann 37039. The main modification was to provide a new buffer beam, buffers and cut-away valance. It also received the usual flush glazing as well as new lamp irons, additional grab handles and all manner of pipes, hoses and other details. The chassis block has had space milled out of it for two 'EM1' similar speakers (Tang Band T0-2008S) which give some nice 'oomph' to the sound decoder.
  13. A Class 37 at Wenford? I can just imagine the sleepers creaking under that lot! Good stuff. David
  14. Not the greatest advert for MRC catering, but excellent in every other respect! David
  15. Positive feedback is of great value to private sellers and buyers alike, and certainly plays an important part in my eBay buying decisions. I always leave feedback, for buyers and sellers, as a matter of common courtesy. I consider not leaving any as a sign of laziness and disregard for a sellers future sales prospects.
  16. I guess that photo is there to emphasise that Copenhagen Fields really is the ‘dog’s b@llocks’ when it comes to top layouts? David
  17. Maths was never my strong point, but I'm pretty sure the difference would only be 1mm.
  18. This thread's becoming more and more like a game of Chinese whispers! I wonder what topic you'll be discussing in on page 60?
  19. Correct. The axles still run in the rocking/rotating axle units, as Hornby intended, but the axle guards now remain static. David
  20. The new gearbox looks very good, but ... If I've understood correctly, the driven axle relies on the plastic muff revolving in holes in the brass block. My first thought is that it won't last very very long on a layout like Copenhagen Fields, or am I being overly pessimistic? David
