  1. Can anyone tell me the length of these locos please (model). Thanks in advance.
  2. Thanks Mat. Ive actually got some real scale cut Dinorwic slates to load them up. Some years ago Bob Alderman and I approached the National Slate Museum and asked them to cut them for us in return for an agreed fee/donation. They were quite excited by this and it really tested the skill of the slate cutter, but he did it. Cant remember now but I think they are scale Countess size, id have to look back on my notes from the time. So my 16mm wagons will be loaded with real Dinorwic slate, cut to scale size in the original workshops at Gilfach Ddu, by a desendant of a local quarryman. I really like that link to the past :-) Cheers Garry
  3. So, ive been having another look at the wagons today and thought I would compare it against an RTModels kit I have. Interestingly its longer than the Bachmann version.... so which is right? Im pretty sure they were a standard size and didnt have mixes of wagon sizes like the Ffestiniog. I also, just out of curiosity, swapped one of the close couplings for the standard loop..... mmmm think ill be staying with the close coupler version.
  4. Thank you Mat for your reply. Some very intetesting information there. I might be wrong about the scuff plates being black originally , but ive got it from somewhere, not sure where lol. I didnt know about the dumb buffer wagons at Dinorwic. Every days a school day. Found this pic here of the early wagon https://www.alamy.com/railway-trucks-carrying-slate-wagons-in-wales-image255942468.html?imageid=BDBBE88D-BE5F-4079-9CEC-C4D4733F4B06&p=183562&pn=1&searchId=e954b5a74cfa772b209d5625cee139a7&searchtype=0 Theres an interesting clip here showing the Duke of York having a ride around the quarry in the wagons. Looks here the scuff plates might be painted in 1956. Maybe it depended on who was painting or repairing the wagons at the time that decided how they looked. As we know there wernt too many standards in quarries and it was very much do what evers cheapest, quickest and gets the job done. Thanks
  5. After a lifelong obsession with Welsh Slate quarries, especially Dinorwic I was looking forward to these new OO9 wagons from Bachmann. For both the flat version and slate wagon version both 3 packs come with alternative standard loop couplings to swap into the NEM pockets. Personally im not a fan of these and to be honest each coupling will be about half the length of the wagon so I think putting these on will look a bit strange but depends what you prefer. 🙂 These things are tiny and I thought Id share a few pictures. First up a close up of one of the flats. The detail is very good with a nice representation of the wood grain on the planking, however I think the axleboxes are oversized and this is the only part im not keen on. But I never thought Id ever see RTR quarry stock so its a small compromise for me. Nice wood effect in detail, bit of weathering will really enhance here. Underneath there are some small areas to add liquid lead or something as these are very light. The loop couplings have a very slight barb on them and there is a small click when you couple them up. It doesnt need much pressure at all , but I think ill file mine off to make it easier when on track to uncouple. Either that or im considering etched hooks and chain but ill see how it goes but I quite like them, didnt think I would tbh. All together Now some of the slate wagons (with sides as its called on the box) I think the corner iron bracing was black as it was cast iron I think so i'll paint mine but then i'll apply weathering. The slate loads add nice weight, are quite detailed and are easy to remove. And with appropriate motive power And to show how small these things are And for a bit of fun OO9 meets its 16mm big brother Peep - oh Hope thats of use to anyone else interested in these models, apologies for the phone camera pictures. Hopefully they are not too bad. Cheerio :-)
  6. If you put it on do you find yourself running fast in a figure 8 and then suddenly spinning off under the chairs !
  7. Doesnt say which Platform or at which Station . 🙂
  8. If its like last year then it will be a flop for me personally. It was too social media heavy last year. Like us, tag us, share us, tell all your friends in order to enter competitions. Not all of us follow the social media herd. Im proud to be disengaged from Farcebook and Instagranny etc . But i guess the preferences of the many outway the preferences of the few :-)
  9. No I rang them because i had cancelled mine about 18 months ago and was asking if i could be put back on a reserve list. As it turned out to my delight it hadnt been cancelled. She wasnt going to take payment when i spoke to her , i asked if i could so its out of the way. It wasnt requested by Jennie so dont worry :-)
  10. I spoke to Jennie today to pay for my 25324. She confirmed the lower preorder prices are being honoured. The first batch hasnt arrived yet of 25324 and one of the first early green ones. Still awaiting release from customs I think. Might be nearer Christmas before they go out by the time they have recieved, QC'd and packaged etc.
  11. Interesting that Gaugemaster have announced pricing for their forthcoming Infinity DCC system today. https://railsofsheffield.com/blogs/news/gaugemaster-present-infinity A coincidence? Surely not :-)
  12. Managed to bag a sound fitted 37001. Very much looking forward to my first AS diesel. For anyone searching for a sound 37001 there are now 2 left at Derails. HTH
  13. When the prototype Deltic model came out I did get and still have the museum ltd edition 001 so they do slip the net sometimes.
  14. For one exiting moment i thought they were the 1970s versions. Not sure there is much difference other than oil fired in the 70s and now coal fired. I thought both had cabbed tenders in the 70s too. Might be my memory :-)
  15. I dont disagree at all in what you have said. I was simply pointing out that not all is always as it seems. Edit. Spelling error
  16. Or is that because people are more likely to voice complaint rather than praise as with a lot of things. If someone produces 1000 models and you see 90 bad reviews and 5 good reviews does that make it a bad model/batch? The remainder might be perfectly good. This is where its easy for people to jump to conclusions and not always the correct one. This is a general comment not aimed at you GWR-fan personally :-)
  17. Going off past performance I think Peco usually announce pricing nearer to the time the items are due to be delivered to retailers.
  18. My sound 7800 has been despatched by Derails today and im so looking forward to its receipt after seeing all the photos. For me its something about the wheels that really finishes this model off. They have depth, realism and real presence. The Dapol wheels remind me of the old Mainline models. Surely these guys are up for manufacturer and model of the year. Ill certainly be voting that way. The futures bright. The futures Accurascale.
  19. Accurascale are suppliers to Key Publishing. They dont manage the direct orders to Key Publishing customers. Key Publishing are responsible for how they organise and take orders for their stock.
  20. Unfortunately you have asked the forbidden question. Your retailer has been informed and your order placed on the naughty shelf. A 2 week delay has been added to your depatch. Thank you for shopping with us :-)
  21. Look at the news and see what other people have to worry/be concerned about. Waiting for a model train is a piece of piddle by comparison.
  22. Modelu3d do a Victory specific crew https://www.modelu3d.co.uk/product-category/finescale-figures/locospecificcrew/planet-industrials/pi-oo-kerr-stuart-victory/
  23. Not a great deal. Pics with pony truck centred and pushed as far as it would go.
