Hi Mikkel, 'Rose Tinted Glasses' removed for that particular piece. Let's just say such blasphemy has ruffled a few feathers!

WESTERN TIMES Issue 6 - Update Here is what's coming up in Issue 6, due for release in early April. Don't forget that Transport Treasury Publishing are now offering a subscription service from this issue, so you will never miss another Western Times and receive your copy immediately upon release. https://ttpublishing.co.uk/product/western-times-subscription-service/ Regards, Andy.
  7. Mike, Thank you, I look forward to your precis of Regulation 5. I am a little confused by your Reading Depot dispute however, as you have pretty much repeated what is said in the article (which incidentally was written by a chap who worked there). In fairness to the OP (as this is now going off topic), I will refrain from any further exchange about your grievances with Western Times in this forum, and await your email. Regards, Andy.
  8. Hi Andy, An Index for Western Times, both article topics and images, has been proposed and is currently being compiled. It is my intention to make this available in both printed form (within the publication as an insert flyer) and digitally. I will keep in mind your project when this is compiled. Regards, Andy.
  9. Mike, If you would be kind enough to quantify and substantiate these errors, I will be most willing to put them in print for the benefit of the wider readership of Western Times and indeed the education of the authors of the relevant articles. Please don't worry about correcting the location you refer to in your first point, as that was corrected in the very next issue. Your challenge to 'Signalling Questions & Some Answers' (Issue 4) and 'Reading Diesel Depot' (Issue 5), I await with interest. Please email me at WesternTimes@mail.com Kind regards, Andy Malthouse (Editor - Western Times).

Rich, Many thanks for your comments which are duly noted. I can assure you that I receive as many demands for more Hydraulic related content, as I do for it to be banished from the pages of Western Times! We would very much like to premiere striking new pre-Nationalisation imagery to illustrate each and every relevant article, but the crux is that it is very thin on the ground and with the demand for some reproduction fees being 'off the scale', we have to be realistic. Our email address is printed at the foot of page 2 in each issue for those wishing to get in touch with corrections, challenges, suggestions or even articles for consideration. For ease it is westerntimes@mail.com Kind regards, Andy (Editor).
  12. Hi Ian, Here is GW Standard 6-ton Steam Crane No.57, pictured at Newton Abbot in September 1961. Not the greatest of images, but it may provide you with some detail not seen in the GWRJ article on these cranes. Regards, Andy.

Should be arriving from the printer tomorrow.
  16. This lining style, dropping below the cab shutter and handrail, is an example of the unique variation applied by the Newton Abbot Works painters. Numerous examples occurred to 4575, 5101 and 56xx classes, in both early and late crest. It is a good example of of one of the secondary works striving for a bit of individuality (like Caerphilly and the red reversing lever). Newton had already baulked at the strict Swindon BR(W) painting guidelines earlier in the 1950s, by continuing to paint name and number plates red for at least 2 years after the practice had been officially discontinued. The works also continued to use up its stocks of early crest transfers a good 18-months or more after the late crest had been introduced for widespread use. Good old GWR standardisation at work! Andy.

  18. Rich, PM sent with official GWR 'Works Images' of van No.103. Andy.
  19. Hi Rich, Glad you found this earlier post and my article in Western Times of use. No.103 was a one off replacement for a fire damaged vehicle and Swindon took the opportunity to clad it with sheet metal rather than wooden planks, making it unique in that regard. It’s sister vehicle was No.114 during your modelling period, later replaced by No.141 in BR(W) days. I would be interested in obtaining one of your 3-D prints if possible please and if I can be of any further help please shout. Regards, Andy.

Hi Mikkel, I certainly admire your patience and hope you find it worth the wait. Thank you for your support and kind words. We are attempting to explore a diverse range of topics, but are of course aware of the insatiable thirst for the ever popular subjects too. A polished 4-6-0 will never be too far away! If you have any preference for future content, please let me know. Your favoured 19th Century is a particular target, but as I’m sure you know, the research is at times challenging and time consuming. I have Issue 5 well in hand, although I am taking the liberty of typing this from the poolside in Madeira. I’ll be back at it next week! In the meantime enjoy your catch up. Regards, Andy.

I see that the RCTS describe the Chipmans Weedkiller Train CWT5 as a converted GNR/LNER 24T Van and that CWT6 was an ex Siphon G. This evidence proves that not to be the case, although it also states that both trains were withdrawn by 1965.
