  2. I can’t comment on the book you mention. But in answer to the second part of your question, ‘I Tried To Run A Railway ‘ by Gerry Fiennes is a brilliant read. Regards, Andy.
  3. Yes, the Footballer plate is still hanging in the place you describe. I never understood its relevance to Pendon though.
  4. Drew, This sounds like one of your extravaganzas not to be missed! One ticket for me please. Kind regards, Andy.
  5. has spent the day amassing some 125 mileage......whilst we still can!

  6. Hi Ian, I think I expressed my interest when you first muted the O.33. But if not, a complete kit for this call-sign please. Regards, Andy.
  7. Didcot’s 5783 appears in Vol.3 of the Pannier Papers, as well as the previously mentioned 5775. There was surely others.
  8. Passed the remains of 43125 & 43128 on a low loader this evening on the M42. Looks like the HST cull has begun!

43125.. wasn’t that and 43126 the first into IC exec livery back in the mid 1980’s ? - I know it was Hornby and Lima’s first choice for that livery.

  9. Hi Ben, I presume you are referring to 4mm plates? If so try Brian at 247 Developments, who will add new numbers to artwork prior to sending for etching. Regards, Andy.
  10. Just passed a Class 309 EMU on the M54 at Telford. You don’t see that every day!

That’s nothing, my wife said she saw 3 mermaids in an Alfa Romeo, in the Pacific Ocean once... mind she’d had a few glasses of champagne at the time

While in Lincs last week, visited my nephew serving at RAF Coningsby and felt proud to see the BofB Lancaster doing circuits including passing over Woodhall Spa, home of the Dambusters. Also saw one of the new A400 craft doing circuits. Per ardua ad astra. RIP those who gave their lives

  12. The three original K40 TPO conversions (39, 81 & 1177) definitely retained their bow ends. Standard connector at one end, offset squat TPO connector at the other. I have copies of the original conversion drawings. The GWS guys at Didcot have chosen to use a flat end in their modern day conversion, currently underway on 1184. Andy.
  13. Yes please Drew, with the usual work commitment caveat. I visited Didcot yesterday with my little boy and he was mesmerised. Nice to see 4079 looking visually complete and at the back of the running shed. Have you been moved by other projects in the workshops? I also would like to pick your brains on the K40 TPO conversion underway in the carriage shop. What is the thinking behind the flat end gangway arrangement? I thought the converter K40”s retained their bow ends, unless you guys at the GWS have drawings to prove otherwise! Anyway, looking forward to another guided tour. Thanks as always for your efforts in hosting a great event. Best wishes, Andy.
  14. I believe both were considered when deciding upon the names for the last batch of Castles. Collett was a quite shy and insular man who avoided the spotlight whenever possible. Some sources say he even politely declined a Knighthood just prior to the end of his tenure as CME. Shame really as they would have made a wonderful set.
  15. Ian, I have very much enjoyed following your test build and would certainly be interested in a kit (or two) should you make them available. Cracking stuff! Regards, Andy.
  16. Shocked and saddened to learn of this awful news. An outstanding model maker and thoroughly nice chap. Gone way too soon. Rest in peace Steffan.
  17. I know that the Newton Abbot vehicles were all plain black, ends and all!
  18. Castle, Very nice indeed. I have the very same kits on the workbench at the moment, so will watch your project with interest. To answer your livery question, yes it was plain black post Nationalisation, in accordance with all Departmental vehicles. Peter Tatlow in his Vol.1 states the directive for red livery came out in July 1959, but did not readily appear until into 1960. Hope this helps. Regards, Andy.
  19. Is anyone still awaiting their subscription copy? I think I’ve been forgotten.
  20. has spent the day on the very spot my Great Grandfather fought during the Great War. A spiritual moment indeed.

  21. Peter's photography was an inspiration for me from an early age, and for that I will be eternally grateful. RIP my friend.
  22. Another excellent show, my favourite on the calendar. Top quality layouts across the board, but I must say Black Lion Crossing is an inspiration! Great to catch up with a few old muckers and the wallet got off remarkably lightly. Thank you so much for all the hard work team, roll on next year. Andy.
  23. Dissertation submitted, Masters Degree completed. Now where's the soldering iron, it's time to get some proper work done!
