  1. Crikey what a model. The features are really outstanding and put the similarly priced Hornby 87 in quite stark contrast in some respects, particularly the lighting functionality. From this batch I'm in for an IC Swallow example, but with a WCML themed layout there is scope for many of these...
  2. Hi all Just to update I've finally started this project and the microsol has worked, there is a slightly shiny finish- just wondered if that was normal and if I will need to disguise it? Hopefully I've done this right! Made a bit of a mess on the silver windows on the TGS though would appreciate any tips on tidying this up other than weathering which I will do eventually! Cheers
  3. Sorry to dig this up - thanks for the previous comments, I've finally got some time coming up to look at this properly. I think I know what to do, except for finishing the renumbering. If I use Microsol to remove the existing numbers and apply the new replacement transfers, am I likely to need to do any finishing to the new transfers?
  4. But DJ will presumably now have contracts set up to sell via Kernow, Hattons etc, so with that in mind perhaps it would be worth DJ converting from Crowdfunding and taking the risk again? Basically, I've committed £30 to this - if I can guarantee that if I continue to fund I will get a model at the end I'm fine. However, what I feel uncomfortable with is investing more if it eventually fails and then being out of pocket and out of a model.
  5. I too can't imagine paying a second installment now there is the opportunity of a second product, my £30 was spent way back in 2016 and whilst it's been on my mind since ordering I feel uncomfortable investing anymore when there is a deposit- (and therefore risk) free option available. I feel for Dave but I think I'm at the end of the road.
  6. Virgin Mk3s were announced last year but there are licensing delays according to OR via Facebook. I wonder if there is a new ETA?
  7. I agree - especially with Hornby announcing the Scotrail MK2fs last week presumably there was not enough time to investigate altering the product to produce DRS MK2fs instead.
  8. For me this is quite a reasonable announcement - I'll be in the market for the National Power wagons and Virgin MK2fs for sure. Beyond those yes it is quite restrained, but I'm also in the market for the DRS 20/3s and the 90s which will presumably arrive this year.
  9. The TSOs are showing 'pre order' again so have they sold out of their first batch?
  10. Just received the stock notification from Hattons too - on or after Jan 11th. Let's see what they look like!
  11. I've been trying to work this out. AIUI in Virgin days, c. 2003 it was Stephenson on both sides and later on in preservation became the dual named version we have today. So as I want 87001 in Virgin 2003 condition, I will have to rename one side of the loco!
  12. Thanks all - I realise my description was pretty uninformative! The issue is the lights work in one direction of travel but not the reverse. The On Off switch appears to switch off all lights but I'll confirm when I check again tomorrow. I tried switching the body around just to prove that the issue was not with the lights themselves but with the wiring. In the scheme of things it's not a big deal as the loco will only really pull freight in one direction but would still like to try and figure it out!
  13. Hi all I purchased a Bachmann 66709 a while ago but the lights only work in one direction. I switched the body around and the lights work so I know it is something to do with the PCB and wiring. I've attached some photos but I suspect there are some missing wires. Any thoughts most appreciated.
  14. To add some balance to this, I have received every update via Email from Dave directly. I can't explain why but I suspect it's the minority that have not received the emails but as is everything online without any balance it might appear that no-one received the info.
  15. I cancelled my preorder with Hattons and explained the reason why via the comments box, hopefully the retailers can put some pressure on OR but I fear it's too late - they were due for release between Septermber and December so they may have already been produced.
  16. Utter uselessness. This industry is plagued by a lack of QA care and attention all which could be avoided for free if they just posted the samples up on Rmweb and set out what criticism could be solved and which would remain.
  17. Hello all I’m in the murky world of Virgin HST trailers, and am interested in removing the first class stripe and ‘1’ marking from the latest Hornby MK3 TRFB (R4855) to create a better representation of a typical Virgin Cross Country TRSB rather than use the 3 window version I have already. I have researched a fair bit, and I believe I need the following: To remove the ‘1’ and vehicle numbers -T-Cut/Brasso to remove existing transfers, e.g. ‘1’ symbol and numbers -Replacement number transfers -A Matt spray – e.g. Halford Car Lacquer to dull the affected area For the Yellow stripe, I believe I would need the following: -Virgin Black paint – Rail Match RM261 My main question I suppose is what is the best way of removing the stripe – am I best just to paint it over or should I do some preparation? Would T-cut remove the yellow and leave me with the black that sits behind? I’ve not made these kind of amendments previously so have also got an old Virgin MK2 I will use to trial in the first instance but would appreciate guidance so I get the right tools.
  18. As for the DBSO, the RRP is £79.95. The latest DVT from Hornby has an RRP of £74.99. It's certainly not isolated to Bachmann.
  19. I also prefer Oxford's rendition of BR Blue if I'm honest, I would be happy enough with these coaches but I'm not a BR Blue modeller.
  20. I also have a query, does anyone have an Oxford Rail MK3 IC Swallow and a Hornby MK2E they could compare the liveries against please? I gave my self a headache understanding MK3 buffets and would like to replace my Hornby MK3 buffet in my WCML MK2 set, but at the moment it's deciding what is more jarring - a livery difference or the body shell difference.
  21. Just noticed on Oxford Rail facebook that the Virgin MK3s are 'on hold' as of three weeks ago due to lisencing issues. Suppose we haven't heard anything further on the Scotrail variants since a comment further up the thread that OR had livery samples which they have requested be amended?
  22. If they were in good nick, they can go for substantially more than that on eBay. I think people are just nervous about the livery application (me included) but if the silver windows are added and the grey colour 'warmed' a little I think we'll see a flurry of Lima MK3s.
  23. Looking lovely - just a shame the pre order price has shot up nearly £25!
  24. To clarify I was referring to the IC Swallow RFB.
