  1. Interesting comparison thanks. Would appreciate a similar comparison between the Bachmann RFB and the Intercity MK2es from Hornby in due course!
  2. II have 5 HJ 86s, mostly bought for good prices but equally some I have personalised so won't necessarily be in the market to replace but will augment the fleet with new numbers and liveries where they are offered.
  3. Hello all Just wondering if anyone has a Hornby 50 50031 Hood available for sale. Thanks James90012
  4. Latest hattons delivery update suggests the Scotrail ones will arrive between October and December.
  5. I have seen photos of Aircon MK2s in Scotrail livery on the push-pull workings. Were MK2s used for a short period then replaced with MK3s? If MK2fs were suitable and it was accurate (albeit less common) it's somewhat of a surprise that Bachmann don't also release their air-con MK2s in Scotrail livery to offer a matching set, even without Oxford Rail's apparent blunder with the livery. I've also seen photos with IC MK2s, but again have no idea how common / uncommon this was. Edit, this thread on another forum provides plenty of detail - but in answer to my question it appears these were MK2Ds. https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/47-7-push-pulls.129282/
  6. Jesus what a mess! I'm holiding on to my Hornby Virgin MK3s until the Oxford ones actually reach the shops to physcially compare the livery application. I'm a bit lost on what to do with the Scotrail issue now - I have 47710 and intended to get a Bachmann DBSO but without anything to go in the middle it's a bit useless. I'm going to cancel my pre-orders too.
  7. For me the price does make it unlikely that I will get any from the first batch other than the Scotrail DBSO. I'm probably in the market for two Virgin Cross Country sets, and as the IC version are the older typeface I'll most likely steer clear initially.
  8. The Hornby Virgin DVT 82141 is now in stock in Hattons according to the email I just received, shame the matching 87 isn't yet!
  9. And here is the alternative layout, using straight points at the moment. I might need this in my back pocket if the first layout proves to not fit in the space, or involves too many geometry changes to work reliably.
  10. So I've attached a wider view of the throat here, with some further changes to the original design to help the flow (I didn't like the northern-most Y-point on the original). Going to have a look at the alternative layouts now.
  11. There will be some loco hauled services- particularly the Virgin Cross Country class 47 and 86 workings - but from my observations they typically operated in a way where a loco came off the depot and left the original loco on the blocks. I will also have a run round set of points which probably should have a dedicated siding to allow a loco to run around the stock without blocking the other routes. Further tinckering to come!
  12. No longer required Hello all I am after one more JJA Autoballaster in Railtrack Blue, not weathered and with a curved top please. Best James
  13. Thanks both, I have slightly altered the original layout which I'll share an image of later in it's wider context too so it makes more sense. I'm intrigued to try that second layout, it's simpler and could be more reliable. Will get Anyrail out again and see how I can get it to look.
  14. Hello all I'm in the early stages of planning a large loft layout, loosely based on Manchester Piccadilly in the early 2000s - terminus platforms and through platforms. I've prepared a track plan which does not include any 'reverse curve' points using off the shelf Peco Code 75, and which hopefully will give the junction some flow and a lot of flexibility. I am looking at full length trains and the length of the white board should be representative, but there are other levels being built first. Welcome thoughts on ways to improve this!
  15. I think I have a similar view - I'll get 66705 as I don't have that already - but in terms of replacing I think I'll just have to see how it all goes.
  16. Hattons advising the Virgin 87 is expected July 2019. A shame it's the only model I'm eagerly waiting for at the moment.
  17. They look great to me. I'm just wondering about how to model the 'droppers' or the actual wire contact points - do you plan to add these?
  18. Interesting! I have 8 66s, some of which are in liveries which I doubt will he high up the agenda, but I could expect to replace my 'core' EWS, FL, GBRF and DRS in the first batch, and expand with 66705. Who knows, but I hope the model turns out great and it's a success.
  19. In terms of renumbering options - I'd like a couple of Virgin 87s - is there substantial variation across the fleet like 47s? Two I'm personally interested in are 003 and 004.
  20. Do we know if these and the 59 will be in the original Yeoman livery or the mainly blue livery?
  21. Looking for the following wagons to slightly bolster my existing rakes: - 1 x Bachmann JJA Autoballaster Inner in Railtrack livery 38-212 or 28-212A - 1 x Dapol Megafret pack - with Malcolm containers e.g. B909F - 1 x Bachmann weathered IPA, 38-250A - 4 x Bachmann BZAs in EWS livery Thanks
  22. I think you're right - as we see in every model railway OLE thread (and even AC loco threads) we find such an array of expectation, from trains being able to draw power from the wires to portals only with no wires right through to no wires/portals at all! For me personally, I will most likely glue pantographs to a fixed height (seems a shame with the Bachmann 90 though), and run with the pantograph just under the wires. That's why I'm interested in this as I won't be adding tension. The key issue though for me is how best to model the droppers and what wires to use, which I need to give more thought. Perhaps Peco wires could work. That said, the Peco Portal (if it ever arrives) has all of this in one, though it will end up being a far more expensive overall option.
  23. Hello all While trying to find out more about the supposedly upcoming Peco and Dapol catenary portals, I came across some highly interesting Laser Cut portals on Ebay. I was just wondering if anyone: - has purchased these - has an idea of what they look like scale-wise - has ideas of how one may incorporate a representation of the contact arms I might bite anyway, at a tenner for ten portals (!) seems there's nothing to lose! The description notes that any feedback or suggestions would be welcome - seems that some of our resident OLE experts could offer some really useful ideas here. The description also notes how the company can make to order, so surely if its feasible could these be a solution for a cheap, representation of OLE portals, led by RMWeb?
