  1. Perhaps if you don't meet the order requirements in N, a similar exercise would be really useful in OO. I'd take a Silverlink County set in OO for instance. Also, with the way the competitions prices are going I think you could probably get away with charging slightly more per set to even out the risk / return.
  2. I'm a swing buyer too, it's totally out of region and everything for me but I'm considering the Gauge master The Royal Alex limited edition - has anyone else pre ordered this or the other version of 101?
  3. Despite being the one to highlight the olivias price change I missed the bandwagon -typical!
  4. http://www.oliviastrains.com/trains/model-trains/Dapol-locomotives/Dapol-class-73-oo-gauge-locomotives/Dapol-class-73-207-county-of-east-sussex-in-gatwick-express-livery-olivias-exclusive/ Olivias have announced that if you pre order by August 1st you'll yet the 73 for 125. After then it'll be 140
  5. Do you think these would do the trick? Edit: couldn't paste the link but the product code is Shawplan DP37-06
  6. From what I can see the only difference is '826 has sealed beam marker lights at both ends, whilst 834 has sealed at one end but those opaque markers at the other. Think I can live with that though! Oh and 834 has a red bufferbeam but 826 was black.
  7. I've had major trouble with some Bachmann 47s, and then others have been a breeze. The problem is though, if you get one that won't separate, it can be nigh on impossible to get it off! As an aside - would 47834 Fire Fly be suitable for renumbering to 47826 Springburn?
  8. It is totally unacceptable to have these really minor issues that Hornby have been doing recently - it just isn't professional in any sense.
  9. I suppose they are niche EMUs, but at the same time I would easily say they are among the best models ever built. I've spent a good few hours just admiring my Silverlink model and it truly is a masterpiece. I'm hoping that there are still some London Midland sets avaliable around these prices on my next Payday
  10. Does the Neon TPE 185 count as snazzy? There are so many threads like this going around now my heads starting to spin! Looks like we'll have a new product announcement at every major model show this year.
  11. I wonder if there are any updates on this project - if you hadn't noticed my username, I'm rather keen on this one...
  12. The centro 150/2 is now available - Rails have some piccies up: https://railsofsheffield.com/class-150-2-150202-centro-free-uk-post-32-937-JJJA22421.aspx I think it's a model that if I see it on the flesh I might buy on impulse..
  13. Agreed - they are pretty straight forward (I'm a novice!) so long as you're good with a soldering iron. I've done 3 turbos and 2 158s.
  14. I made the trip over to Penarth Road yesterday from East Cardiff and wasn't disappointed. The shop has everything, plenty of stock and accessories. Not many bargains, but this is probably due to the rarity of some of the stuff. A minor issue is being unable to 'rummage' through the stock - there is a mix of items hidden beneath/behind the front model but these are behind a glass door. This makes sense, but a list or something with what is in there and the price would save a lot of squinting/continual disruption of staff. Perhaps a tablet/ipad with a stock list would be useful since there isn't an active website at present. Still walked out with a Cross Country Turbostar that I wasn't intending to get!
  15. Has anyone seen any dates for the quarter that this model is expected?
  16. I think this model will be produced in comparatively low quantities too so I agree with 45059
  17. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OO-Hornby-boxed-mint-DCC-ready-R2420-BR-green-class-31-diesel-loco-No-D5512-/271515062317?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3f378f102d 'Mint condition' - it's one of the 31s with the explosive chassis by the looks of things!
  18. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LIMA-KIT-BUILT-GNER-CLASS-89-OVERHEAD-ELECTRIC-LOCO-89001-MINT-my-/331185099527?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item4d1c2b9307 Wow. Gostude is currently selling a coach I'm after but the problem is I, a) don't want to pay as much as he wants and b) don't even want to buy from him!
  19. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-Prototype-HST-Inter-City-125-Power-Car-7-x-Mk3-Coach-complete-train-set-/310973354186?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item486774d0ca This will be a good one to follow - I do like this particular eBayers work
  20. This short supply in the RTR market has really sent the Second Hand market barmy. I give you the new FGW MK3: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-BOGIE-HOPPER-WAGON-POLYBULK-38-426-SUPER-ITEM-BOXED-/371061481923?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item5664fce1c3
  21. I didn't want to open this debate again, but I wonder if I can add a few dimensions to other comments, bear in mind my comments are referring to OO gauge: I'm not too sure that 'discounts' are representative of a product being unsuccessful, there are quite a few 108 models at Hattons discounted for instance and Vitrains models were heavily reduced when in routine production. But also, since Hattons presumably purchased the 85s from Bachmann at X-price, Bachmann themselves wouldn't be at a loss unless they have a load in warehouses (note following point about limiting numbers), and I find it unlikely that Hattons would sell them at a loss (unless stock clearing). I think the AC market would be more successful if there were lower production numbers of each type - I know Bachmann 85101 is still available in a few locations, but these are all at top whack - no discounting here. I can see a different approach being necessary, and perhaps the limited edition could be the way to do it a la Realtrack with the 144s being produced once, and once only in each specific livery type. Granted it's not going to be a quick profit leading product, but I do find it strange that Hattons can justify dozens of Cobos for a very limited market (many of which are now discounted). Either way, I'm sure DJMDave managed to look at the finances for the Dapol 86 before leaving and can decide from that if it is worthwhile from experience.
  22. Since this is a wish-list, I'll make a note of wishing for a new Class 87. I think tooling costs of this could be spread quite widely, even though I think there would be sufficient interest without other benefits. For example: - A Brecknell Willis panto could be sold separately, an item which is often referred to in various threads and could be a simple way to encourage modellers who want a simple improvement to the Hornby 86/90 to switch pans - Bogies would be useful for future development of a Class 90, as would (presumably) the chassis/motor itself - The 87 has been around in dozens of liveries with impressive geographical spread (Taking on board thoughts of non-moving buffers etc could reduce the financial risk further).
  23. They're also finding some really knackered stuff to sell
  24. Don't really know what's going on here? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OO-GAUGE-VITRAINS-V2084-CLASS-47-47339-COLAS-RAIL-/371056843917?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item5664b61c8d In general the Vi 47s are going for much more than they have previously, presumably now they aren't available as a discounted standard release anyway.
