  1. I used a chainsaw for cutting full size sleepers in half for the real L&B!
  2. Unfortunately I am now into 7mm, but fortunately I haven't got the slightest interest in DCC, so you won't be able to persuade me to spend even more on it .
  3. I think local events are kept secret. I only discovered the one two miles down the road because someone exhibiting there happened to mention it on the Narrow Gauge Modelling Online forum last night. And I was aware the the O Gauge one may be happening sometime so went Googling for it. Apparently there's a general modelling exhibition in Hermon (Pembrokeshire) next month, but the internet doesn't seem to know about it!
  4. Me too. Until I got bored with collecting diseasal numbers, and got interested in the architecture and 19th/early 20th century history instead.
  5. I moved away about 18 years ago, and rarely visited Reading anyway, so all this vandalism happened after my time!
  6. It seems that exhibitions are a bit like buses in my sleepy part of West Wales.   7. It was, but I've no idea whether it's still there after whatever they've done to the station recently. The existing/recent station building was a relatively modern (in broad gauge terms) construction on one of the original single sided platforms.

Two platforms, but on the same side. http://maps.nls.uk/view/104197876 There were a number of single sided broad gauge stations, and non Great Western narrow gauge* ones too, but as far as I know they were major stations on the edge of a town/city centre to make both platforms easily accessible. In less important places, passengers had to cross the line to get to the other platform. *Narrow gauge AKA standard gauge to those with non broad gauge interests. Causes great mental confusion to those of us who model broad gauge, standard gauge and less than standard gauge (Broad, Narrow and Narrow Narrow?)!
  9. I was planning to cut a load of 4mm windows for the Scalescenes buildings on my OO layout, but as something rather drastic is happening to that I won't need them. So I'll probably need 7mm ones first, depending on when I replace the mock-ups on Cheapside Yard. That's where I'll be doing my experimenting/learning. Cutting the glazing with the Silhouette should, as you say, make it easier.
  10. Shame about those opening windows. I was hoping they'd be a failure, but it looks like I'll have to have a go at making some opening ones using my Silhouette cutter, when I get that far!

  12. To avoid the dangers of the technology going wrong on public roads, they could build dedicated roads for running them at high density. Or to keep the technology simpler, cheaper and more reliable, they could lay a pair of parallel rails instead of a road. Oh, hang on, didn't the Victorians start doing that? I think they were called railways .
  13. The layout I started in mine was 28.08mm gauge, so not far short of 32mm, but 4mm scale!
  14. I've got a program to remove KB3035583 on my Desktop, so I can easily double-click on it if it ever rears it's ugly head anywhere near my computer. Plus a shortcut to the Windows Download folder, so I can check for, and delete, sneaky downloads. Windows 10 is not invading my life!

I don't know if Microsoft are being sneaky, but I've got Windows 7 set to check for updates but not download, except that I've just spotted that it had changed to install automatically, and it was ready to install the dreaded KB3035583 when I shut down. Hopefully I've stopped it. It may be that I clicked on something by mistake, but if you're trying to avoid Windows 10 it might be worth checking your settings.
  20. Surely cars become old before they become classics, so when do they become old?
  21. Suitable for the early 1900s. I wonder how easy it will be to convert to EM. Industrial sidings may be needed on any future EM layouts I plan.
  22. Tower Models are still listing it. Has anyone seen photos of the K&ESR one? Is it the right shade of blue? I'm not sure whether to order a second one to convert to Rolvendon, but it looks like I may have to decide pretty soon.
  23. A new cab and a taller chimney, and it might be quite nice for O-16.5!
  24. My 1993 Escort wasn't much bigger, and my German Shepherd was happy with the front or the back seat!
