  1. The three doors aren't stable doors but it is the 'Cart House', these will be wide enough to fit a cart or waggon in them so about 7-8' wide. the stable would probably be stalls accessed through a single door with probably a window on one or both sides. Thread on stables here from a couple of years ago.
  2. Thanks Mark, should be able to do something with most of them. My address is on the PM conversation.
  3. Just a representation but there is a paper there... along with the Thermos and bait tin (what's the BC name for this?).
  4. I'm sure you would Stu... First progress report - The Bedford TK. The whole thing has been taken to bits I've started with the body using planked plasticard and Evergreen strip, the headboard strengthened with angle and channel. The body will be fixed to the chassis with a 10BA bolt. Fits well! Is this going a bit far with the cab interior detailing?
  5. I hope you don't expect their lorry to be as grubby as the gates... very nice
  6. A couple of reference photos of Bedfords similar to the one I'm building, used mainly for details of the body. Preserved flatbed. Period flatbed. And a useful chassis shot showing the usual square Bedford fuel tank and brake gubbins.
  7. Hi Stu, No problem. They would probably load and unload from the road, possibly by hand or we need to find a suitable sized and period forklift. I'm assuming from reading your thread that your factory is only part of their empire and that it wouldn't be based there.
  8. Thanks Mark, Yes, I seem to have volunteered to have a go at some road vehicles, mostly commercials. Although I have quite an interest in commercial vehicles of this period (many were still running when I wer' a lad) I've never modelled any as they don't fit into any of the periods that I model. This seemed a great opportunity to build/detail some that won't be left on a shelf to gather dust. My first choice is the ubiquitous Bedford TK, the reason for this is I regularly drove one in a previous job, although only around the farm but quite a few miles as a passenger on the road. I also like the look of the Leyland/Albion/AEC 'Ergomatic' cab. One of each of these was bought at the Wakefield show yesterday along with some detailing parts and something else that will interest many of those reading this - more of this later. I have quite a list of alterations and detailing that I will go through later. First the Bedford. An Oxford Commercials model of a horsebox, the body will be removed (it will be available to stand in the corner of any waste ground if necessary) and either a flat or dropside body fitted, I originally wanted to paint it dark blue as the one I drove was but I kind of like the green. The second is an EFE AEC Mercury, it will remain blue but will be re-lettered 'Millwards' for Stubby's business. Finally a couple of photos of the Hoss 'Ol Shanks'. The scrap load is made up from all sorts of spare plastic bits, there's various bits from Wills detailing packs, some plastic GWR platform seat ends, a Wills bicycle, some offcuts of chain, some champagne bottle foil cut up to look like bits of lead and an 8 stone weight made from a bit of plasticard, a cuddly toy. Great fun to put together!
  9. Must be winter, frost hasn't cleared all day (beautiful day here though).

Whatever the weather it's a beautiful place up there.

  10. Hi Mick, probably a J77, a Lancaster kit that Mr Wealleans sourced last year, it wasn't going go be next but we had a couple of problems with the J72 on GM at Tyneside I thought I should get on with the standby loco. But first, as I'm currently only a few hundred yards from his house at the moment, I might go and throw mud at his door for putting doubt in my mind about those Q6 windows!!!
  11. Thanks Jonathan, now I've got it finished! Yes, they do look a bit small now that I've looked at photos closer. Not a lot I can do about it now and anyway some seem to vary in the photos.
  12. Just about there. A few little jobs to complete, I've missed off the guard irons from the frames at the front, the marks on the boiler will be sorted and couplings need to be added then it will be weathered and glazed. Quite happy with it though.
  13. It seems the coal is in the box marked 'Paint', now I've found it I can fill the Q6's tender...

  14. Boiler handrails now done, the safety valves, whistle and snifting valve are fitted but the chimney and dome aren't. Next, cab handrails, steps and lamp brackets.
  15. Right, something worth photographing from this morning. I've got the backhead detailed using bits of wire and some MSE etched hand wheels. The firehole door guard has been modelled in the open position, just a bit of folded brass, I don't think I'll add a handle though. I've also started with the handrails, the right hand one has the control for the steam reverser - the visible bit of this has also been added, there will be a link between the two levers.
  16. is glad he lives on a hill. Hope all members in the south west are dry.

I live on the side of a hill but there's still a lake in front of the shed

I live on top of a hill by the Tamar, but there's still a lot of water overhead

  17. Got quite a bit done last night, nothing worth photographing though. The cab has been fitted and the cab seats/steps inside, outside I've fitted the sandbox fillers, the footplate handrails and the rear splashers. The front chassis fixing is meant to pass through the smokebox to a nut inside but I've fixed a nut inside the saddle and the boiler will be fixed down over this. The last job last night was to fit the smokebox wrapper to the casting, I've fixed this with epoxy and it will need a little filler in a couple of places around the front.
  18. Thanks Ray. Next outing will be with Felton Lane at Wigan in June and Greyscroft at Pickering in August.
  19. So sing while you have time, let the sun shine, down from above, and fill you with songs of love.

Can't sing sorry, full of cold ( and it's not just man flu).

  20. The cab parts have arrived and work on the Q6 has restarted. The boiler has been soldered together and the front end fettled to take the smokebox overlay, a small amount has been filed off this as it was overhanging the cast smokebox where it should be slightly back from it. I've enlarged the slot in the bottom of the boiler to fit the motor through, this is nicely hidden behind the middle sandboxes. The cab has been built but not soldered on yet.
  21. Last week I bought a new computer mouse from the well known South American river, now I'm getting emails from them advertising - guess what...
