  1. OK, I've gone and ordered one to measure up for vinyls. I'll see if I can improve on the RTR finish...
  2. The spec was to have the word Sleeper at each end, though there must have been numerous occasions where this was not followed. It always pays to find a good selection of photos if you can. At least, when I mess up, it's a case of modify the artwork, a quick run through the printer and the cost of a stamp.
  3. I did indeed. The blue stripe was Rail Blue, rather than the traditional Provincial Light Blue but otherwise in Standard Exec livery. The coaches were 10578 and 10610 if anyone fancies a go.
  4. Livery issues notwithstanding, at £27 quid a pop, they are very good value and will be improved nicely with a set of Railtec lettering. I'm planning a couple of Mk3s for the Fort William sleeper circa 1988 but will probably do my own vinyl sides on stripped down GF bodies.
  5. Splendid news! I am always happy to hang up my vinyl equivalent when something RTR comes along :-) That low profile tube chassis has a lot of potential for other types....hint hint.
  6. I have just had it pointed out that the diagonal stripe is the wrong way around on one side of the TBF. Please be assured this has now been fixed and I am hanging my head in shame...
  7. Steven has very kindly let me have a few APT vehicles to vinyl up and I will be selling both the kits and vinyls via www.electrarail.co.uk The kits really are superb and build up beautifully, including bogies, couplings and flush glazing. Just wheels and motor chassis needed to complete. Steven has commissioned decals from Railtec for those who wish to paint. The Electra vinyls will wrap the entire vehicle - just the inner ends and power car roofs need painting.
  8. Probably because the colours were hopelessly wrong on their Red Star version. I would be most surprised if one of the usual suspect retailers has not bagged it for an exclusive...
  9. High-resolution digital photography is far less forgiving than the human eye. If God had meant us to be digitally photographed, he would never have invented Photoshop.
  10. Fag Packet is a horrendous livery to reproduce in any scale and Dapol have given it a good attempt, though the green is very suspect. I'm certainly not going to cast nasturtiums as my own vinyls have compromises to accommodate limitations of printing.
  11. I'd love to see another manufacturer produce a 37 or 47 in N, as Farish releases are so few and far-between (and have a short shelf-life). I know it's duplication but there are so many possibilities to keep manufacturers going for years.
  12. Take heart! There's still plenty going on from the likes of Dapol, Revolution and all the cottage industries to keep us entertained. I've been working with some 3D Print producers and we have a workable APT-P and TransPennine Class 185 with 3D print bodies and Electra vinyls (if you wish). There is so much choice out there that requires a little modelling work.
  13. Most of my vinyls are now printed on white vinyl with the windows cut out, which gives much better livery definition, as they are now 100% opaque. More than happy to do the 185 set on clear vinyl if you wish. You get the flush glazing but would need to make sure the bodies are sprayed white first to get the colours right.
  14. Unfortunately, the e-commerce platform I use does not make it easy to limit the variations available in the drop down lists, so I have a full list of coach types and a full list of liveries. It works well for most options like units and HSTs but with individual coach types, there are some compromises. If you are after a particular type that's not on the website, please drop me an e-mail and I'd happily look into it.
  15. I contacted Gaugemaster and had my replacement interior within a couple of days. Really excellent service from the customer service team.
  16. I see what you mean - the rheo braking is in a large extra pod on the centre vehicles. That would make a nice 3D printed add on for the 802s. The all-electric 803 does not have these mounted on the roof but it is, again, different to the 800.
  17. I've not done a check on the detail differences between the 800 and the 802 - I gather there are some roof differences, as they were designed to be Dawlish-proof.
  18. I've found both units perfect for the TPE overlays, as they cover all the green bits on the GWR ones. I used a GWR unit to develop the TPX vinyls and then re-wrapped it later with Hull Trains (which I've kept).
  19. Not until quite recently on LNER. Not sure what GW's policy was.
  20. For accurate operation, it is now standard practice for the rear pan to be raised in service. The idea is to give the driver an extra few milliseconds to lower the pan in the event of OHE damage.
  21. I have cut apertures for the headlights into the end but, due to the vinyl being very stretchy, they sometimes need enlarging with a sharp blade.
  22. Thank you for showing off the TPx 802 far better than I could. :-)
  23. It would be nice for LNER to do some more special liveries for the Azumas. The current worrier with Covid and fleet availability are probably taking precedence, though. 800104 was done to mark the launch of the sub-4hr Edinburgh-KX service.
