  1. A lot of folks go down that route! Sure it will work for you Cheers Phil
  2. Great progress Paul Do you pair up the tortoises on crossovers such as your loop exit? Saves a decoder channel! You could do it with the catch points and their associated points too but I have found mixing tortoises and cobalts like that doesn't work Cheers Phil
  3. Hi Nidge If so then its 6115 - the only one to find its way there see - http://www.railuk.info/steam/getscrap.php?id=111 - but as that was cut up April 65 - http://www.railuk.info/steam/getsteam.php?row_id=2898 then I suspect its a 41/51xx See http://www.railuk.info/steam/barry_search.php and the list above for the choice! Looks like you could light a fire in her and drive her off. Cheers Phil
  4. Much progress in making phase 1 "Phase 2 ready" You may remember the cunning plan http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/uploads/monthly_12_2013/post-7138-0-51935700-1388170680_thumb.jpg Have decided to take the high level Oxford/Worcester loops outside the Gloucester loops on phase 2 so that will be outside the back of phase 1 rather than over the phase 1 loops - has to be better operationally! Heres the amended phase 1 board - the 2 tracks running down to the left will be the Gloucester loops on phase 2. Loop 10 - track with no points this end - is now loop 0 - shades of Harry Potter - and is for terminating down trains only. Pointwork has also been simplified and frog juiced for reliability. Will re-draw plan when I have time. So now its signals and rolling stock for Redditch Phil
  5. That's just the line up I had in mind!! Excellent job. Phil
  6. Thanks Alan That's all RTR stock - its a case of bringing it all together to make the overall effect, still plenty more to do Kind regards Phil
  7. Remember seeing such a combination at BNS September 67 - D373 was doing the honours Phil
  8. Post #3 in this thread is a cracker - thanks Frankel! http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/89762-rugby-and-other-areas-in-the-50s-60s/ Phil
  9. Top left corner of the reply box Larry - above the B for bold, under the this of reply to this topic! Phil
  10. Great plan to paint the wheels Coach Think I shall do the backs and axles on mine too. Is it worth rotating the bogie 180 to give a solid bogie frame at the outer end? Have already removed the NEM pocket at the "free" end as we will always be propelling from the opposite ends. Phil
  11. Getting geared up for the Redditch show on 20th/21st September http://www.redditch-mrc.com/Redditch%20Show%20-%20Introduction.htm Hope to see some RMwebbers there Andi and Rich on the crew Saturday, old chums Brian T and Andy L plus Jim on Sunday - and Pierre le Brun in there too, looking like a cracking crew so might have to try to run a timetable.... Cheers Phil
  12. Cheers will give that a go next time we have the layout up. A bit of braking on one of the axles may help with the shuttling too. Phil
  13. Yup had been looking at that too - hoped to use a bar to avoid "shuttling" when propelling at low speed but we have taken all the NEM pockets off our locos. DUR!!!! Phil
  14. Ha ha well used to that!!! Just try getting the super Bachmann 37-407 1950s loco crew in to virtually any diesel - requires amputation anywhere up to the hips. The carpet monster gets fat on them! Phil
  15. Not sure that these locos ever ran on BR in any livery other than two tone green with wasp stripes - but stand to be proven wrong! Allegedly D9502 still carries the original Swindon paint. http://preserved-diesels.co.uk/2004/9502_2.htm Phil
  16. My D211(now D200) was erratic but a stay alive has solved that Cheers Phil
  17. I know Rob doesn't - but just wait till you see the latest Abbotswood pictures taken by Trevor Jones - should be out in Hornby mag November issue if all goes to plan Phil
  18. Smashing layout and instantly recognisable - was in the pub opposite railway cottages with Pierre Le Brun a couple of weekends ago, the line of the track to Marsh Sidings can still be determined. And they are a friendly bunch on the DFR too. Phil
  19. Gotcha! Yes does sound like newbie behaviour. Have had 4 of them together - so must also have been a family group I guess - flying formation around us on the banks of the River Ithon before now. Its wonderful to witness such behaviour close at hand. Phil
  20. Kingfishers are common! You just need to get yourself in to the right place and wait quietly and one will come along but yup as Chaz says they are timid. But beautiful. Have had one try to perch on my out stretched fishing rod before now Phil
  21. Yes indeed - a champion one in fact! Phil
  22. Got my hands on mine yesterday It was hijacked by SWMBO as a birthday pressie so had to wait for the big day yesterday Sound chip to be ordered... Phil
