  1. There were more bogie rail wagons splashing around in the River Wye than ballast hoppers!!!! Phil
  2. Thanks Clive Was aware of the programme but didn't know D15 was implicated! CHeers Phil
  3. You lot are hard taskmasters hee hee - and then theres SWMBO's financial proberty scrutiny..... I reckon our programme looks like this: June 2014 - finish current board phase 2 enabling Scenic tidy up July 2014 - Photo session and Toddington diesel gala (provisional) Ensure routes and signalling are fully operational then Sept 2014 Redditch show Phase 2 enabling final board (Birmingham end of fiddle yard) Dec 2014 Bishops Cleeve show Jan 2015 Phase 2 build begins April 2015 Trainwest May 2015 Stow show (provisional) Work on phase 2 build Sept 2015 Great Electric train show - might be nice if phase 2 came here with us - but that's another 6 boards And somewhere in there that nice Mr Bachmann will throw us a curved ball hopefully with his new warships.... So don't think we are slacking too much..... And theres a whole lot of gassing to be done on here too! Phil
  4. Hi Mike Used the sunny weather as an excuse for some trout tickling yesterday HAve a bit of work to do but yup next decent weekend hopefully Cheers Phil
  5. Many thanks John 9f from Bacchy - 92220 Its a lot of work building - and maintaining - a layout! Keeps me off the streets.... Kind regards Phil
  6. In 4mm 50mm masking tape works well - get the cheap stuff from B&Q it has just the right finish to it - and paint it grey with weathering. A dab of superglue on the corners holds the folds in place. Heres the up clayliner with loaded sheeted wagons https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYg23Rj-Pl4 The down train is empty with folded sheets in the wagons Cheers Phil
  7. Absolutely! Totally agree with your comments - one of the reasons why I go down this road You will fool any sound chip if you drive inappropriately - but far less likely with a properly tuned installation. Sound chips do force driving discipline in my experience - if we want them to sound prototypical then our driving has to match those aspirations! Kind regards Phil
  8. Hi Neil Yes it is a can of worms - you are right. That's rail blue rendered somewhat paler with a small amount of paler blue - well rendeded photos in economy blue not common. heres D133 https://www.flickr.com/photos/59835095@N02/6309151547/in/set-72157628044675918 As for D15 IIRC Mark used some etched brass doors we had in stock from a Craftsman class 44 detailing kit - 55A shed plate also added, prototypically overpainted yellow! She only run in this form for a couple of years, by 1969 she had acquired centre box headcodes https://www.flickr.com/photos/59835095@N02/6309142767/in/set-72157628044675918 - presumably due to accident damage. The headcode boxes are also additions on this model, IIRC it started out life as a centre box loco. Heres a comparison shot with Bacchy's spilt box loco - D79 for us Copped her in split box form on my first ever gricing trip to New Street in September 1967 - hence my enthusiasm for her! Kind regards Phil
  9. Welcome! Find what you like and go with it..... Have fun - Kind regards Phil
  10. Bring on some individually numbered wagon builders plates then perhaps will go with that - Ready cut out of course!!!! Hee hee Phil
  11. Have you just bought shares in Mr Isherwood's enterprise Mike? You'll be telling me we have to do the two trains of 16 tonners next... Hee hee Phil
  12. Had an even better shot of 1015 there a few years ago - still only but will see if I can find it - was a spectacular eruption But 40 is good value for money too - I don't turn out for 47s/57s! Phil
  13. Cheers Mike Funnily enough not when she came through Churchdown - but that's why I headed for Norton Junction, guessed she would warble across the pointwork then open up for some decent sound effects Shame theres no token exchange ! Phil PS must get a monpod for better steadiness
  14. Sorry hadn't replied earlier - only just seen this The difference - for me - is as follows: More of the characteristic whistle Better top end thrash And key is that the sound files are tuned to the driving of the loco without having to go through all the rigmarole of resetting CVs yourself Have a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgALWABO0UM&feature=youtu.be - sorry its only a test track clip And compare with the real thing which I filmed today at Norton Junction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVf-tEmtKgk Horses for courses - you makes your choice! But a sound file from an enthusiastic secondary supplier is always likely to drive better than a main market installed device. As for economics Hattons currently quote £208 for DCC sound and £81 for non DCC loco so that's £127 to play with. Loksound V4 chip £84 at SWD plus £6 for speaker plus £15 for reblow at Howes - so that leaves you £22 to cover postages, ends up probably not much in it! If you are going to get it reblown any way then the SWD chip has to be the better bet - and I haven't tried changing the speaker fitted in D211, the mounting probably restricts options significantly. Hope that all helps! Cheers Phil
  15. And see post 178 in http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/11410-abbotswood-junction/page-8&do=findComment&comment=1475597 for a link to youtube video of her at Norton Junction and Churchdown today - 7/6/14 Cheers Phil
  16. And theres a banger blue 40 on phase two this evening!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVf-tEmtKgk&feature=youtu.be Phil
  17. Heres some rolling stock progress Spent last weekend and this with Jim weathering our bogie bolsters - all 17 of them Wheels removed and painted Gentle squirt of frame dirt from below Dirty black wash from above Squirt of matt varnish Gives us these Also been asked about our Peaks in early blue livery 4 15 50 78 79 185 left to right and front to back 50 and 79 are early BSYP - James cut the rail blue with a paler blue to make them that bit paler - ? accurate shade but dirt and fading would make that tricky any way I guess 15 was a rework with nose doors by Mark B - cheers mate excellent job! Thoughts folks? Cheers Phil
  18. Mint condition? That's like a polo then - with a significant hole! Phil
  19. And how many of us formed part of that crowd of enthusiasts on the end of Reading platform that year? I was there for at least 3 days... Phil
  20. Smashing stuff one and all Two split box 37s at STJ Brian? Wonder what they had worked down on, not common at that time Cheers Phil
  21. Hi Phil D1054 in maroon FYE? That's a rare shot was hunting for one last year and couldn't find one! Thanks for sharing these super shots. See Nidge's excellent livery resource at http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/54551-western-liveries-1961-1977/ - she was only in this livery for 9 months, March to Dec 1970 Looking at the condition of the yellow paint its been on there a few months and that looks like a summer sky so I reckon Summer 1970 - does that help? Wanted to do my Dapol MFYE as this loco but lack of photo stymied that so she ended up as 1067 instead. Kind regards Phil Bullock
  22. D200 (D211) now back from Howes - much better sound files Have already played with CV5 & 6 but will have a good go based on these findings - many thanks, she ran round the test track for 3 hours the other night with 17 bolsters in tow so is well run in Phil
  23. And Tornado with a BR1 tender? Does he have an Evening Star with an LNER 8 wheeler I wonder? Phil
