  1. Took a trip to Tenterden (K&ESR) today to have a go on their Crimbo Limbo trains. Not sure how long these have been running, but it was a great day out. They were running for the last few days and today the trains were absolutely packed. It got me thinking, maybe there should be a few more winter running slots ... ordinary running, not just the Santa specials. I know it is a good time for volunteers to rest and essential work to be carried out, but there is something quite nice about a steam train in winter. I have fond memories of a trip to the Bluebell many years ago in November, when the return journey was done in the dark and the stations were lit, along with the waiting room fires. Happy days.

    Dawn over Margate

I hate to be a party pooper, but there is only one thing which 'develops' on the Isle of Thanet ...
  7. They do look very good, but ... ... I know you said that they appear 'brighter', but that blue really doesn't look like a dark prussian, it is certainly a lot lighter than the Railmatch Prussian Blue I have used on previous models. A bit annoyed I won't be at Reading to see what they look like in the flesh.

    Jinty in O gauge

Based on the photo here : http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/87122-Dapol-o-gauge-terrier/?p=3364899 ... and the fact DCC Supplies sent me replacements for my Jinty in an unlabelled packet, I would say with 99% certainty that they are the same item ... only 99% mind, and I am not in a position to fully confirm.
  9. ... and this loco is far away ... sorry, couldn't resist Good plan putting the suppressor kit on the blanking plate ... I never understood why this wasn't done from the beginning.
  10. Not quite such a wide range as Hattons, but probably cheaper!! https://hobb-e-mail.com/30th-anniversary-loco-bash-1119-c.asp
  11. My terrier is OK, but I had a jinty drop a CP, and I believe others have had the same shearing problem as you ... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/115518-jinty-in-o-gauge/?p=2973888

    Jinty in O gauge

    Yeah, but no, but yeah
  13. Had to get some Dapol O gauge spares from DCC Supplies and they were very quick to respond. Will certainly use them again.

    Jinty in O gauge

I acquired a 2nd Jinty in the Hattons sale. One of the crank pins disappeared during running in. Sadly the errant pin just appears to have vanished into thin air. I contacted Dapol, who put me on to DCC Supplies and the replacement pin arrived within a couple of days, no quibble. On further inspection I noticed a couple of things ... 1) Half the crank pins were loose ... all now tight. 2) Where the pin had just fallen out I shone a torch behind the wheel and could see light through, so if you lose a pin, you can easily tell whether it fell out or sheared off. Next problem, I had purchased this to repaint as Thomas ... but it is such a lovely model I'm not sure I can bring myself to do it!!! Dunno about Peco Setrack I'm afraid, but mine are happy on Marcway 48" radius points.
  15. Thanks for the heads up, i didn’t realise Hattons had a lingerie department
  16. Thanks for asking, and posting the comment.
  17. Very active at work ... sadly the modelling is still getting frustrated by a complete lack of time atm. I keep trying to carve out some time, but keep getting thwarted. Your new layout sounds interesting!! Any chance of a thread and some pics? Terriers made it as far as Brizzal, so one could stretch the imagination a bit further!!
  18. Boxhill is definitely at the NRM in York ... but not exactly 'On Display'. In August it was parked at the back of the "Learning Space" and is barely in view ... you can just about see it if you lean over the barrier by the loos. Judging by the layer of dust I'm guessing its been there a while.
  19. Made me cry ... what a waste of lipstick and high heals ...
  20. Saturday's and evening work in retail is understandable. However, Sunday trading is a recent phenomenom ... in Germany laws prevent most Sunday trading ... I seem to recall reading they have the strongest economy in Europe. Sunday trading is only "harsh but true" if we make it thus.
  21. I have more locos than sense ... not that I have many locos
  22. The only problem with model shops opening on a Sunday, is that it begs the question, when does the owner get a day off, especially with the smaller shops? I'm sure the likes of Hattons can arrange a fair rota, but I doubt that is the case for most of the smaller retaillers mentioned here. I doubt there is ever any chance of getting Saturday off either, so when do they get their family time? If their nearest and dearest work 'regular' hours, it means not having time off together. Railway modelling is not an essential service (despite what some might think ) ... perhaps we should plan ahead and exercise a little patience instead? I'm not meaning to be provocative btw, just trying to have some consideration for those in retail. I have to work every Sunday and it does make managing family time difficult, especially on those weekends when I have to work Saturday as well.
  23. Anyone complaining you're Kadee couplings arn't prototypical on UK stock ... ... check out the Oxfordshire Ironstone Railway https://rcts.zenfolio.com/industrial-and-light/industrial-steam/other/ea87de136 (apologies if this has been done before)
