  1. …. well someone has to pay for all those cars at Luton Airport
  2. You mean they quickly learn to have headaches and hint that the house needs redecorating?
  3. Isn’t that what they do to horses? …. just before they shoot them.
  4. If I’m going that way I will always go up Weardale and over Hartside - what a shame the cafe burnt down!!! It takes longer but is a much more relaxing and enjoyable drive.
  5. Do they still ‘do’ all of the smells too?
  6. Ah well, travelling home from distant climes, well Yorkshire anyway, met up with friends for brunch and got talking as you do. Arrived home later than expected but an enjoyable time was had. Managed to drive on the correct side of the road all the way up the A19. Apparently, south of the Tees flyover they drive on the same side of the road as us.
  7. What an unfortunate situation they find themselves in. A great pity (and disappointment) for so many in so many different ways. I hope this doesn’t impact the club too greatly financially. I’m guessing that they (and exhibitors/traders) have already paid out at least deposits for accommodation and possibly have other liabilities too. As I say, I hope it can all be sorted out to everyone’s satisfaction.
  8. I am not doubting you but where is this news? Seems very short notice as it was this weekend. Edit - just found it on Model shop UK website - storm damage to venue apparently. Quelle dommage. Thanks for flagging that up, Neil. Otherwise I would have headed there this Sunday. I'm guessing a few might still do so given the short notice. I hope it doesn't impact the club too much - I'm guessing they will have already paid out quite a tidy sum for accommodation etc. Given that I volunteer on Sundays it was to be one of the very few exhibitions I visited this year. Quelle double dommage.
  9. Are you back up at Newcastle this weekend Baz? @Barry O ps. no need to interrupt you presentation to reply - just deal with it in your ‘any questions’ time.
  10. Afternoon all I have just spent most of today wrestling with a roll of chicken wire. A few blood spots were created, it's a vicious beast, and the rest of this year's and a lot of next year's Turdycurses were spent. A glass of malt may be needed this evening - for its antiseptic properties you understand..
  11. Rob, can I ask what fencing you have used, particularly around the underpass/subway steps on the platforms and on the wall protecting the road ramp down to the underpass at Crianlarich - the one next to the 'two doll' signal?
  12. I have always wondered why they sometimes say tips included and at other times tips discretionary.
  13. I reached state pension age at the beginning of October but won’t be receiving a winter fuel payment this year. The ‘qualifying week’ is the last week of September.
  14. Shucks. I always miss all the fun. Which threads are you talking about?
  15. What are we having for our evening meal?
  16. Looks like something straight from one of those bloomin’ John Lewis adverts.
  17. Morning all Daughter has just called on her way to work with the hose from her Shark. There is a sock well and truly stuck in there. That’s my first task for this morning sorted then. Have a good day peoples.
  18. Reported today… Bicycle thefts at railway stations alone rose to 6,956 in 2022 Police charged 238 people and recovered 103 of the nearly 7000 bikes stolen Just saying.
  19. Regarding motor insurance… As you know I volunteer with the National Trust. I was having a break the other day and in the ‘break room, the NT had posted details of all their various insurance policies. I’m guessing that this is required of them. The motor insurance.. The insured … The National Trust The vehicle… Any vehicle owned by or used by the insured* Those covered… The National Trust, its employees, volunteers and associated groups and volunteer organisations. * I wonder how much that cost !!! … and whether or not they consulted the Meerkats. * I can’t remember the exact wording and there was more, but that covers the gist of it. I’m sure that @Gwiwer will know the correct terminology.
  20. Many happy returns, Jamie
  21. Why not go the whole hog and just give it one fixed axle at each end. A cross between a Deltic and a Pacer. A Dacer or a Peltic perhaps?
  22. So, who is going to be first to organise a ‘Wheeltappers Best Station Pubs’ pub crawl. Seriously though, I’m thinking it might be an interesting challenge to try as many of them out that I can. By rail of course. It’s ok though, I’ll be over it in the morning.
  23. Don’t start me off because I’ve been mixing me toasties.
