  1. Hi, There are other web based flight trackers, some with more military on them. Also some sites show some private jets and some don't. It all depends on who is feeding data to the site and some people feed to one site and others to others. Some aircraft don't send ADS-B data. For military I use https://tar1090.adsbexchange.com/ You can filter to only see these (click on the "U" in the top RH corner) or have everything. Alternative to FR24 is Planefinder https://planefinder.net/ It's only recently, in fact just before the lockdown, I noticed that some military were appearing on the sites. normally you'd see the odd one, but not many. HTH Rob
  2. Another image here https://www.airteamimages.com/canadair-cl-44_N228SW_boac-cargo_243689.html In my logbook from days gone by. Looks like an Avro 748 in the background, in front of a DC3, and an Elizabethan to its right. Rob
  3. New topic added ,see list in 1st post. Please make comments re individual threads in their thread not in this topic please. Otherwise confusion will reign and people will miss the info'. Thank you. Rob
  4. Hi, There's been a previous topic on this you may like to read and digest https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/143258-fitting-programming-track-as-part-of-the-layout/&tab=comments#comment-3502480 As others have said, it can be a problem if safeguards aren't put in place. HTH Rob
  5. Hi again, Found this post below relating to "sleep mode" on the HP help site. Again it's try it and see, but it does seem to be Windows updates causing these things to happen. It seems to "reset" things in the process of updating. Whether that's to get a known state before updating, or just poor programming, I don't know. Not all updates do the same things to different PC's either. It's a minefield and Microsoft need to sort it out. Hope you get it sorted soon, I know how frustrating it can be, especially at this time. Rob ================================================================================================================ " ‎03-17-2019 10:30 PM I was having this same problem on a laptop from a different manufacturer. Turns out a recent Windows update had disabled the Hybrid Sleep mode. Turning it back on restored the old behavior: Closing the lid or allowing the computer to sleep no longer closes open applications. To turn Hybrid Sleep mode back on, go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep Under "Related settings" click "Additional power settings." The Power Options window should appear. For whichever power plan you're using, click "Change plan settings." In the next window, click "Change advanced power settings." You'll get yet another pop-up window called "Power Options." Find the Sleep category and click the '+' to spin down more options. Click the '+' next to "Allow hybrid sleep." Set it to 'On' for plugged in. Maybe for On battery, as well, but that's up to you. Click "OK" to commit the changes. Back in the Edit Plan Settings window, the "Save changes" button is probably greyed out. Make a change to one of the options there to enable it so you can save. You can change it back to the previous setting immediately if you like. I am not sure if that step is actually necessary, but the first time I tried to make the change it didn't stick."
  6. Hi, A shot in the dark. I searched Google for this problem and one thread, here https://www.autoitscript.com/forum/topic/177749-stopping-windows-10-from-auto-closing-programs-to-free-up-ram/ It suggested that Windows was shutting down programs to save RAM. It may be you've reached that stage where RAM in getting low on your PC. The 2nd post down on that page suggests running "gpedit.msc" and seeing if this "feature" is enabled, and if so changing it to detect only. It seemed to work for the OP. I've not had this problem, but checked my PC and it wasn't enabled anyway. Windows 10 has a habit of turning things on/off during updates, which seems to vary by user, and it may have enabled this. Good luck, HTH, Rob
  7. It seemed that the illegality of it that was the attraction to many. Rob
  8. The newer digital modes have taken over from voice(SSB) & Morse(CW) that's why you don't hear many voices on the bands now. The sun has both old cyxle and new cycle spots on it ATM. so the new cycle should get going soon. Whether that will lead to more SSB/CW again who knows. Being a VHF operator myself, the data modes have re-vitalised those bands. Rob

  10. Class 08 TTS fitting plus other tips added today. See 1st post for all topics. Rob

  12. Very useful topic on stay alive added to list, see 1st post. This is an old topic that was started before I commenced this thread, and has just been resurrected. Rob
  13. Must have been the invisible ink again. Rob
  14. Please, please, please, please, please, don't use these. The mains wiring was never intended to be used for signalling and these things radiate from the mains wiring which acts like an aerial. Many , many radio hams have had their hobby ruined by the crap these things emit, and they are susceptible to radio signals too which can cause them to stop working when the transmission is nearby. You could also be sending this interference into other homes if they are on the same mains distribution as you. Here's a site with examples of the different types of interference caused. https://www.ban-plt.org.uk/ I'm sure you like to enjoy your hobby, as do radio hams. Thanks, Rob
  15. Some progress with the extension, track laid and some ballasting done in places. Before I can do more I need to place signals, cabinets, etc. New warehouse structure done, needs paint & weathering to blend in. I repurposed the old factory that acted as the scenic break before and used it as part of a low relief backscene. The track curvature is tight, but stock seems to be traversing it OK. It's in a low speed area, so trains should look OK going prototypically slow. Not 100% convinced with the scenic break for the 2 main running lines, but inspiration may strike me further along the way. This will have a road above it from which access to the halt is gained by the footbridge. As I said previously, I tend to morph my ideas as I go along. Watch this space. Beginnings of the halt. New warehouse, repurposed factory, and foreground new sidings(old running lines)
  16. Negative ion generators can reduce dust in the air. I've not used them, but the theory is sound. You can get various sizes to suit the space. Thing is a dust sheet will catch dust, but in removing it to operate the layout some of the dust will recirculate. Better to get rid of it first. Rob
  17. On Sunday, the 9 ran from Becontree Heath, Dagenham , to Hammersmith, then we'd get the 81 to Heathrow. Normally the 9 ran to Aldgate ,I think. So we'd get the 25, then, the 9 and 81. It usually took about 3 hours, but we went very early in summer, 1st bus out. We cycled it once, took about......................3 hours! I remember Avro Yorks, Elizabeathans, and Air France Du Ponts. Happy days, Rob
  18. It would be nice to know what the fix was, in case someone else has the same fault. Rob
  19. I doubt it, they all seemed to be touch and goes at the various airports involved. But maybe preparing for use later? Rob Edit: That was addressed to Phil. I though I'd hit "quote", but obviously not.
  20. RAF C17''s seem to be doing the rounds of local airports ATM. Here's some video clips from Southend and posted on Facebook. A friend sent me the link https://www.facebook.com/YourSouthend/videos/1503444289825511/ Rob
  21. The electrolytics you pointed out are usually used for smoothing/bypass for power circuits. The suppression cap's are usually ceramic, and look like they will be SMD types (chip). Looking at the service sheet, there's a binocular choke at the motor but no cap's. So it would seem they are on the board somewhere. Unfortunately the sheet isn't clear where the motor wiring runs to on the board. Maybe a mail to Hornby explaining the problem may help. Rob
  22. One layout on the exhibition circuit used a fibre doormat with part of it cut down. Looked remarkably lifelike. Can't remember which layout though. Rob
  23. Hi, Is there a URL for the TTS retro kits page please? Thanks, Rob
