  1. I’ve started on mime too. I’ve started from the same place but am doing a bit more “mix and match”. I prefer the Hornby cab shape to the Silver Fox (and, truth be told, to the DJ Models one too but that is much closer) Pics 1 and 2 are of the Hornby side frames with the specifically Cl 71 details removed and the Cl 74 parts cut from the Silver Fox side frames added. The lowest cab foot step needs to be added Pic 1 Pic 2 Pics 3, 4 and 5 are the rebuilt battery box from the Hornby Cl 71 having been converted to the battery box & fuel tank of the Cl 74. The Silver Fox parts have been separated and adjusted in relationship to each other. PS I know that the two fuel tank parts have been added the wrong way round but by the time I’d realise all was stuck very firmly together! Pic 3 Pic 4 Pic 5 Pics 6 and 7 show the chassis block has been trimmed to fit the combined resin / plastic body. Also I have cut and filled away the cast Cl 71 buffer beam as it is completely wrong for the Cl 74. Pic 6 Pic 7 Pics 8, 9 and 10 are the combo body. More work is still needed to hide the join. And yes one end is a little skewwhiff where it joins the cab. The next 74 will be better… Pic 8 Pic 9 Pic 10 Pics 11, 12 and 13 compare the front ends of the Hornby 71, The DJ Models / Kernow weathered 71, my Hornby /Silver Fox combo, the original Silver Fox cab. Pic 11 Pic 12 Pic 13 For the front mu pipes I’m going to use the Dapol Cl 73 spares pack, for the roof Markits brass horns. There is more to be done but I think I’m over the worst part… Just need to keep going J Luke
  2. Thansk for showing us how you're doing this. I'm just waiting for my SF74 to arrive (Monday with luck). How does the size of the side frames in the kit compare to the Hornby 71? If the kit was to match the 86/87 bogie (10'9") then it may be a little out for the 71 (10'6"). Shouldn't make much difference with a weathered underframe... Luke
  3. Well the "out of stock" kit was/is £35 https://www.dckits-devideos.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1001&search=class+74 Idealy I'd be happy with just a re-run of this... Luke
  4. I believe that Golden Arrow is also being "encouraged" to do one. There must be enough market for two kits! Luke
  5. Thanks for the reply. Sides and roof would be great. I'll have a look into bogie sides when the rest is sorted Luke
  6. Any progress on this? I find myself becoming particularly eager! Rails have the NRM 71 on special offer so I now have a donor Luke
  7. Now that I am interested in! Please keep us informed Luke
  8. Which is why I was wondering if DJ models was to get/let some to "officially" do a resin 74 body kit.... Luke
  9. Would make a great master for a resin model... Luke
  10. Just got a (re)confirmation that the kit / body is not available. Maybe if enough of us ask... Luke
  11. I thought I should post exactly what I was sent. I hope DJ keep going with the 74 but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. Luke
  12. Sad news from Kernow. Good afternoon, Re your DJ Models Class 74 order. Thanks for your order for the crowd-funded Class 74 model. As you will be aware this model was announced over two years ago and since then insufficient progress has been demonstrated. In discussion with DJ Models we have today reluctantly concluded that it is unlikely anything will change to make this model possible within a defined period of time so we have decided to cancel the agreement we had to manage payments for the project. As you probably remember, this was a DJ Models project and we simply handled the order and payment processing, with the funds retained in a ring-fenced account. The nature of our agreement with DJ Models was that we would receive a payment for each model at the time of despatch. This agreement was to assist DJ Models getting started and avoid the need for us to charge DJ Models fees in advance of the project proceeding. Unfortunately this means that we lose out when customers cancelled their orders, as we are charged a percentage by the bank when we receive money by payment cards, and we are charged a second time when we refund the payment cards. Up until now we have just absorbed these costs but now we are faced with refunding several hundred orders, the fees we face are quite substantial. You may, quite rightly, wonder why this should interest you! We have decided to make a special offer available to you if you chose not to have the money refunded, but instead use the money towards any purchase from us. We will credit your loyalty account with 1500 points for each Class 74 that you have on order if you choose to have the credit applied to your Kernow Model Rail Centre account rather than back to your payment card. These 1500 points are worth £15 towards a future purchase. We should make it clear that the funds have been ring-fenced and there is no problem with refunding all the Class 74 orders, but we would rather give you a small bonus than pay our banks more fees! The easiest way to let us know your preferred course of action is to reply to this email. Please copy one of the two statements below and remember to include your name and postcode so that we can arrange the relevant credits. • Yes please cancel my Class 74(s) and credit my loyalty account with 1500 points for each model • No thank you please cancel my Class 74(s) and refund the payment to my payment card You can also call us if you prefer. Please note if you choose to have the loyalty credit but then subsequently have the Class 74 payment refunded to your payment card we will deduct the loyalty credit from the refund. Thanks for your patience with the project – we are sure DJ Models are as disappointed as us that it cannot proceed at this time. Best Regards Chris Trerise Kernow Model Rail Centre 98A Trelowarren Street Camborne TR14 8AN www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com 01209 714099
  13. It must have been me who bought it! I've checked the Dapol digest but nothing there so I've contacted Dapol directly. I've had a message for Neil that something should be on the website soon, possibly later today. I'll post a link when I find it. Thanks Luke
  14. I got mine from Gaugemaster. I was ordering some plastic sheet for the club platform I'm building and just added one to the order. But everywhere seems to be "out of stock" which seems very strange. Maybe because there are no instructions It seems a nice decoder, small and well formed. I've tried it on a ESU decoder tester and it's fine, the other light functions work fine. I just wish I knew which cv's do what (I want to install in the Kernow 4TC and consist it with a 33) Luke
  15. My hope is that the new Turbostar chassis mechanism (even if the wrong length) will allow Bachman to start working through the Electrostar range in years to come... Luke
  16. Bachmann's new site has been active a little while now. http://news.Bachmann.co.uk/ Not sure how much more it will tell you. Luke
  17. My Imperium arrived this afternoon and I was rather surprised to find that beyond a half sheet of paper. The sheet says to look on the website for a full guide. I'm damned if I can find it. Has anyone had more luck than me? The manufacture is marker a 154, version 4.which is unknown with DecoderPro but does fir the NMRA spec. Luke
  18. What about: BR class 87, 87018 "Lord Nelson"? No new tooling, and not the Nelson we'd expected? With a '18 link? In RES livery? Luke From https://bobfostersrailgallery.weebly.com/long-marston-open-day080608.html
  19. Anyone know the running numbers of the Dover ones? Thanks Luke
  20. Printed copy has the same issue. The page numbers are correct but the content of p86 is exactly the same as p88. As the article seems to start in the middle i'm guessing that it is the content of p86 that's gone missing! Good issue on weathering! Luke
  21. First sale was about 09:17, which was me! First stop at any stand... Great book, really enjoyed it. I knew there were issues with the 74's but I didn't realise quite how bad they were at times. I used to see the odd ones sitting in Clapham Junction yard on the way to school. Now I realise they may have been loco's that had failed! The 71's I'd see at Hither Green and Dover as I went down to see my paternal Grandparents in Deal Luke
  22. What was I talking aboit?!? Please ignore... Luke
  23. Mainly heavy frost on the field by the WCML. Still don't like getting up at 05:45, but this is the only exhibition I do it for.
