    Class 59 in 00

My apologies to anyone I have upset with my post, of course I had forgot that the original model had been to be taken over. My rather badly worded post meant to compare the Hattons 66 timeline with the 59s. Like Scoobyra my post was out of frustration rather than wishing to denigrate Dapols efforts. As Mark states it was an off day.

    Class 59 in 00

This model was announced 3 years ago and has barely got off the ground. I have given up on getting one now. The Hattons 66 has a much shorter timeline, will probably look much better and will be available next spring, whereas I suspect this 59 project could end up being shelved. I hope I’m wrong as a top notch 59 would sit nice on any modern image layout and certainly help Dapol.

    Keith Bristow

Yesterday 6th November 2018 Keith Bristow, one of the founding members of Banbury and District Model railway club unexpectadly passed away, he had served the club in a variety of roles and lately was the secretary. Keith was a passionate modeller and had vast knowledge of the railways in an around London. Keith will be missed by all who knew him.
  4. Fortunately absolutely nothing Bachmann have made or announced over the last 2/3 years has interested me one iota.
  5. Hi, this is probably quite easy for some but I am going to attempt this for the first time. I have a Lima Class 60 which has been modified insofar as it has a different more powerful quieter motor on board, and I have fitted it with a Hornby TTS sound decoder. I would like to fit modern high intensity lights and the red rear lights.I am not sure of how many functions the Hornby decoder supports ( I believe that affects the wiring) ideally I would prefer to buy a kit with instructions to attempt my first one, however failing that any help would be gratefully accepted re: wiring, resistors etc.as they are a bit of a closed book at present. Thanks in advance
  6. Great to meet Dave and Dave at GETS today and be given really useful info regarding container wagons. Also really good to see the Hattons team engaging with us enthusiasts. The RHTT looked very good, I think I am warming to some of the modern image stuff.
  7. I have pre ordered Class 66 66789 in BR Large Logo blue with GBRf branding "British Rail 1948 - 1997". My knowledge of modern intermodal train formations is limited, I would like to start collecting intermodal wagons that might be pulled by this particular loco. I was looking through various publications and find that several different versions of these wagons are on the market, some current, some for older intermodal services, so if I wished to put together a rake of say 12 wagons for this loco in its current guise what would be the recommended rake of these wagons be?....Thanks in advance.
  8. It was a bit of fun, not to be taken too seriously, good effort by all three teams in the time given, even if Missenden did take cheating to new heights. They rightly (IMHO) lost, and the chap getting so emotional took it in kind afterwards even if his bragging did come back to bite him. The filler shots were a bit annoying, more shots of building rather than filler shots and interviews. Still if it gets people interested it will have done its job
  9. The stadium area is quite easy to access by car, i am not sure where the free parking is unless they are referring to the general carparks by the stadium/retail park, there are a lot of spaces there but they are shared by shoppers too. The motor museum was a 15minute drive for me but the venue has always been too crowded and warm and viewing was a naightmare. Hopefully the bigger venue will address those problems. I live about an hour from the venue so not too bad.
  10. Trying to remember 60 years ago is difficult, plus the D600 class were not around long, and even when around spent a lot of time being repaired. Funnily enough I remember the C22 sound quite clearly as it was very noisy and sounded like a bag of spanners. The D800 warship was more refined altogether.
  11. Are there any sound project on the horizon for these locos? been looking around, cant see anything yet.

    Class 07 Diesel

Is there a sound decoder available for this Shunter
  14. Thanks Stationmaster,I too have ordered the originals w/o headcode boxes. .
  15. Had a little skip of the heartbeat when I read coreless motor, my only experience in the past have been Portescap in a 28xx I built and DJM Cl71, the former works well but the gears are worn out. The latter runs nicely if a little slow (as has been noted before). i have paid upfront for my D6XX and hope that my purchase has plenty of grunt and a decent turn of speed.
  16. Received my HNRC 07 today, it really s a weighty model. Took it to my club layout, It did have a bit of a waddle for the first 10 mins or so. However after 30 mins each way it runs beautiful. The level of detail is excellent, and slow running is very good. Mine will receive a DCC chip soon but I must say this is a belter of a loco. Anyone do a sound project for one of these?
  17. Oh I am serious about obtaining one of these beauties which I remember fondly from my childhood, however I like to believe I am purchasing a quality product, not something that requires remedial work to repair or have to send it back for a replacement. If you are happy to accept second best that is your prerogative. Your suggestion that I copy posting 934 implies what? that I moan about every model that comes on the market? or that I am more discerning about what I buy than you are 81C? I will leave you to chew that one over. Suffice to say I have several Heljan products that I am more than happy to praise, but with their products (more than Hornby or Bachmann in my opinion) I like to see before I buy.
  18. Sadly we are seeing the same old story repeated far too frequently for comfort. Three and a half years in development and the model turns up with a whole raft of problems; the attitude of some 'I can fix, live with etc' is all very laudible but the fact remains that models are not cheap these days and it is not good enough to distribute them with varying faults and breakages, neither is it good enough for people to be labeled whingers for being disappointed. I have been looking forward to this model ever since it was announced but my money will stay put until the manufacturer takes some responsibility and does something about it. I have seen quotes saying they are Danish to in some way mitigate their perceived ambivilance to the problems. I shake my head in disappointment when I read stories of these peoblems, it does nothing to encourage new people into the hobby if the model turns up broken.
  19. I hink we sometimes forget that Hornby have released some superb models recently, Duchess, air smoothed MN, Pecket, 800. With the 'Nelson' waiting in the sidings. Hornby would have been better off making a big deal of the Blue MN, and slipped the other things in over the coming weeks with no fuss. If they had kept the announcements minimal, (say the blue MN), there would be much happiness all round. The marketing and publicity dept. at Hornby certainly need a shake up.
  20. Well that was worth waiting for.......not. Basically Hornby could have announced all these additions without the song and dance. Well done Hattons for completely overshadowing Hornby's announcements with a state of the art model at a reasonable price.
  21. Yes it would be expensive, but having seen some of the continental locos fitted, it certainly looks very good.
  22. Lapford34102 may have a point with the 74 as the DJM crowd funder has gone into hibernation. However I don't think Hornby would make a song and dance about the announcement for a 74. So if it is a loco it is going to be something special, if it is a set, again it would be something special. It could well be a development in control systems. Or a complete long shot perhaps something on the lines of continental locos which have 'working' diesel exhaust and steam & cylinder drain cocks, but unlikely.
  23. Whilst we are on full froth mode I am going to throw my hat in the ring with Waggon Lits night sleeper stock. Probably completely wrong but we will know in a few days anyway
