  1. Themselves...in.... shooting....the. Shame really, lots of children still love Thomas, and if Hornby had used a bit of marketing savvy (some hope) they could have exploited other areas that bring Thomas to children e.g. interactive..
  2. Shame to read about the problems Hornby appear to be having. The locos they are producing at present are superb. I have bought several of their locos over the last year and been completely satisfied with them, whereas Bachmann output has been much less obvious. All we can do is support the company as much as possible.
  3. Can anyone add to this thread? I bought a Digitrains ZS003a which I am reliably informed by My club memebers is excellent, and to my untrined ear it sounds superb. However now there are a few on the market I wonder what opinion is regarding the closest to the real thing?
  4. Really a message for Moderator as there appears to be no other way of contacting them. I had a post deleted on 15 March 'Govt. Review' I am not aversed to moderation, however I was not on the site on 15 March and my concern is that someone else may have posted using my name/log in. Of course this may have been an oversight by me in which case I stand corrected, however a bit of feedback as to the context of the post would be helpful, so that I can look at what was moderated and why? Thanks
  5. Since mine was fixed by Hornby it has run faultlessly and is used on my van train of 21 wagons which are a mixture of RTR and kit built. Has no problem handling this train and looks the part.
  6. I have two of these locos, one works very well the other is a constant source of annoyance as it goes stops goes stops. I have lubricated it run it in and swore at it. But I cannot bring myself to scrap it. It is a Stewart tank of the type exported to Spain. This model being 'Bacaraldo' Can anyone recommend someone who may be able to work their magic on this loco. It is DCC fitted.

    Hornby Clan

If you look at John Uptons post it states "MAY" have been shot down as balderdash. I matters not the truth behind such rumours or official announcements; it would appear that Hornby are no longer the owners of said tooling and therefore would have to retool completely. I do not know if the Britannia tooling lends itself to adaptation I suspect not. A new Clan would as Rob says probably cost around GBP200 but then that is going to be theorise of most new models in the near future.
  8. Ian J..No need to apologise, I am sure there is room for a healthy discussion about 4MTs....just somewhere else.
  9. As is common these days the threads tend to wander, I expect to be reading about Lord Nelsons, instead I am reading about BR Standards. Start another thread if you want to discuss them.

    Rod Maguire

Sadly Rod Maguire one of the founder members of the Banbury club passed away after a short illness. He was a career railwayman serving at Banbury. Rod served the club on the comittee as exhibition manager along with myself a latecomer to the club, he was a keen supporter of both OO and O gauges. From a personal point of view Rod was a great friend with a dry sense of humour and supportive when we worked together on exhibitions. Rods funeral will be at 2 pm on 14 th Feb. at Aston Le Walls church. RIP my friend.
  11. This is a rather simple conversion I carried out on two old Tri-ang pullmans I had kicking around.
  12. Whilst this did not set out to be a crusade, I think it is worth highlighting some of the salient points. As Rovex rightly points out models are not commissioned on a limited number of posts, however it is also noted that many relatively obscure and niche models are produced without any prior expressions of interest, but have sold very well anyway. There are many more positive posts than negative, also the postings link well to all gauges which can only be encouraging. When one gauge (not exclusively but frequently OO) get something there is hightened awareness and demand in the other gauges and manufacturers take note and follow suit.. Hornby in the past used to post teasers most of which have had a habit of going into production, remember the blurred W4 in the background of one of its videos? I would like to believe that the cover of the new catalogue is one such teaser, I may be wrong but why post a picture of your latest loco pulling something that is not in your range and not generally available in RTR? However as pointed out they have plenty of locos that would look good heading the Night Sleeper. Finally and most importantly...I can dream cant I?
  13. The responses so far have been generally positive which would be encouraging for Hornby. With two examples (Bluebell and NRM) they would be easy to scan etc. It is not out of the question the NRM taking on such a project. I have built one of the MARC model coaches which are superb, but as already pointed out you would need a mighty loco to pull a rake of these. At just over £100 for a kit and £250 RTR they would be beyond a lot of modellers budget. However if a RTR came in around £50-60 mark I am sure they would move.
  14. On the face of it one could be forgiven for thinking these coaches would be a 'niche' product; however we are in times where niche locos, coaches and wagons abound. We now have a number of locos either in or coming to the market that, locos like the Cl71, forthcoming Lord Nelson, and othe SR locos would all grace these coaches. I believe there would be plenty of takers given how well some of these locos sell and will almost certainly sell. The current availability is limited to one product in OO and HO examples really do not look right. I believe Hornby could be on to a winner producing these, or perhaps a retail commission.
  15. Thanks for the suggestions chaps, Cv 150 was set at 1 so I changed it to 0. Also changed CV 151 which affects the slow running speed and CV10 which affects BEMF. Anyway after playing around a bit my Lima Cl 60 runs well; slight hesitation on setting off but the Modeltorque motor does have a lot of torque and takes a bit of a shove to get it going. I must say the Cl60 TTS decoder does sound very good and is outstanding value for around £40. I did eventually find the Jerky Hornby thread as well.
  16. Takes me to the Jerky running site then switches to Rannoch Moor.....Weird
  17. Not really Chrisr40 it just takes me to a thread on Ranoch Moor layout.
  18. Fitted my Lima Cl60 with a Hornby TTS decoder. All the sounds work well however at low speed it Judders quite badly, as soon as I increase speed up to around 30 (128 steps) it runs very smooth. I am wondering if it is a back EMF problem which I can correct by altering CV s. The motor is a Modeltorque replacement which is much smoother and more powerful than the original. Would be grateful for any advice.
  19. Now that is what I call an announcement......Bachwho?
  20. Lots of nice Bullied coaches, WR Pullman will be well out of many peoples range price wise Looks like the field has bee left clear for Hornby to do the Lord Nelson Slightly underwhelmed by Bachmanns programme, but I am sure there will be plenty of takers. The named std 5 is interesting though.
  21. How many pieces are they doing.....I'm guessing eight
  22. WR Pullman set...nice touch, long overdue, hope they get the variations from the MR set correct. Hardly a teaser from Bachmann given that we will have forgotten about all these by the time they hit the shops.
  23. Having just returned from NZ I am late into the speculation spree, so here are my predictions. There will be lots of 'Not my era/region/interest.' A fair smattering of ' Nothing for me'. 'They have missed a trick with that announcement'. ' I wonder if they will make this/that version.' There will also be plenty of 'Wows,Yes!, Woohoo' Don't think I have missed anything but please feel free to add to the list. Being serious though; this is an important few days for our hobby and let's us hope there is something to please us all.
  24. Been away in the wilds for the last month, has anyone speculated on a Lord Nelson? I am too jet lagged to plough through 36 apges.
  25. Have got sets of Alan Gibson wheels for the front bogies too, will definitely look better. Thanks for the weathering tips, I do tend to use Tamiya weathering powders which are a little more 'permanent' than the straight forward dryer powders. Will probably use mixture of Tamiya and coloured charcoal which is my favoured style.
