  1. BR crimson v BR Maroon is the gift that keeps on giving! In another topic when i asked, it was confirmed that road vehicles were BR crimson (and cream) rather than maroon, which they didn't get. Seems a bit odd that containers later got maroon (as confirmed by the 1959 instructions up the thread) but the lorries never did?
  2. Interesting that it's only a few locos after the motion bracket style changed. Rail online has good photos of several locos either side of that change. 5392 in particular does look as though the cab roof is fractionally lower compared to the firebox but it's pretty marginal. Not sure the roof looks any flatter - just the cab generally looks more squat. Hard to tell if its imaginary having read about it! My recollection is the mainline loco came with some notes about the cab variations but I've long since got rid of mine.
  3. Thanks, that explains why the question is being asked but unless anyone can confirm otherwise, I didn't think they were actually different, other than the initial 20?
  4. Ive never seen any mention of the prototype cabs being swapped. The photo of 4301 in the post which you originally mentioned as noticing the higher roof, is one of the first 20 which which were built with, and retained, a different cab. I don't know if the Dapol cab is actually any different to to the first run - could just be the angle of the photos.
  5. Etched signs that may be useful https://www.wizardmodels.ltd/shop/buildings/ls003/ https://www.scalelink.co.uk/acatalog/Smiths_Components_for__OO__.html
  6. Pic from Google of Minehead. There are some of 4-4-0s at Penzance with the tender on outriggers as well.
  7. The first batch of 20 were different to the next lot which were 9 inches longer, so the photo of 4301 above isn't strictly relevant to this model. For me the Dapol cab roof looks too tall relative to the firebox, which may be due to the slope already discussed.
  8. Yes that's right although I've not managed to find him recently and wonder if he's stopped. https://www.warrenshephard.com/
  9. There are diagrams on Google images as well.
  10. Weren't the namers Crewe builds? I've only seen pics of the Brush version from Heljan so far.
  11. I bought some spares from Gaugemaster for my 73. Glazing, which comes without the orange stripes and also some cab handrails. The handrails sent are clearly the wrong parts but they are refusing to accept it at the moment. Also one of the windows is scratched but I haven't even bothered to raise that given the issues with the handrail. I'm much happier with how it looks minus orange anyway! If I can remove the number it will become E6012 which had a grey stripe and the double arrows, but if I'm in any doubt it will stay as it is. I'm tempted to do it as brand new. This and my 33 will work as a 1966 cameo - or they would if I actually had a layout!
  12. The lighting is discussed in the new 33 thread further down the Heljan page. May help clarify how the model is meant to be wired.
  13. I copied you on the thread discussing this when you asked before. Unfortunately no one came up with a solution but you could try a direct message to those discussing it at the time in case they sourced replacement gears?
  14. Probably my favourite book! Several shots in there of trains that don't actually feature the B sets but are made up of one of the spare brake 3rds and a couple of corridor types.
  15. Severn Mill are superb but at a price to match. They supply Masterpiece who make top end handbuilt brass stuff (including Westerns).
  16. Related, and perhaps might help answer that question, where did strengtheners come from? B sets were often/usually allocated to the specific branch but could you justify having 1 or 2 spare coaches sat there permanently but only used infrequently, or did they run them down from the nearest carriage sidings for busy days? Edit: actually was use of strengtheners ad hoc, eg when a bus load of Japanese tourists arrived at Brent, or scheduled, eg an extra coach every Saturday?
  17. I rather hope that is the tall one on the EP?!
  18. A number of my coaches are different on either side. I resprayed one side of my B set so that can be reversed and I have some Lionheart mk1s where the sides detach, so bought in two liveries and swapped sides around to get two rakes! These can fairly easily be swapped back. Oddly I can't quite bring myself to do the same with wagons, for which there is no logic whatsoever!
  19. Pretty much done. I had to move a couple of the links on the other side to make room for the number, and forgot to put them back on before weathering and the very last thing i did was to snap off a vacuum hose. Also I've missed the white ends on the brake levers!
  20. BR built 1/062 converted from the Dapol model. Buffers swapped with a van, W irons modified to BR, gap filed in the body and chain links from fusewire - I've left a couple off until I fit a container. Transfers were a mix of Clasp I found on eBay and @railtec-models numbers which Steve shrank slightly to match.
  21. Some discussion of batch differences in the original 2HAP thread. About 4 or 5 down on page 1
  22. Before they released the HAP, there was discussion about making one from a 2EPB and a 2H. These suggested that they completely retooled them each time so there are differences, such as the gutters not lining up. Presumably that's not significant between the HAP and the EPB?
  23. They pop up on eBay pretty regularly at decent prices.
