  1. Yes indeed! Always looks very clogged up in photos - did they use some sort of one way system to keep it all flowing?
  2. Just out of interest, where was the turntable actually accessed from? Is it the one you have left to finish on the right?
  3. Hi, What type of buffers are these on the shock (ie in real life)? Been looking up possible variations for a Parkside standard GWR open on Paul Bartlett's site and a fair number have this type but no idea what I'm looking for. Ta
  4. The Parkside instanter middle link comes on the same sprue as the sheet rail gubbins for their GWR 5 plank and you actually get 4 links per kit in all the fitted van kits I have (two flatter, two chunkier) so there are potentially spares out there in RMWeb world!
  5. I noticed a van having a spin (not literally) round the Frecclesham car park at Bristol - End of the Line was also there.
  6. Good stuff! The new planks look convincing to me - what do you mean by aged concrete, is this from a particular range? Cheers
  7. Thanks CME. Funny having said I've never thought about it, reading that I do much the same! Certainly spend time filing the corners to a sharper edge, albeit more to achieve a neat join. I tend to fix one side and end to the floor first and then fettle the other two and floor to get a good fit. But same principle really without consciously realising why! Gone off topic, sorry! The ex Lionheart 8 planks that I bought on special from Dapol last week are all straight - no bowing at all..
  8. I'd never given this any thought before but obviously if I now ignore this, Sod's law dictates every kit I ever build will bow horrendously. Do you fix the ends to the floor or just the sides and let the ends "float" fixed to the sides?
  9. I've just bought one of these and was, naturally, about to take it apart, as you do with new toys. But for reasons which now escape me, instead I thought it would be a good idea to replace my kitchen tap at 11pm. Assuming you are going to repaint eventually, had you given any thought to a source for the replacement "Bedford" wording?
  10. Peco do GWR self contained buffers (they call them parallel) as an accessory set with hooks and 3 link - same ones used in the GWR box van kit The official photo of the set is misleading as it doesn't show the plastic base of the stock which sits against the buffer beam but I've bought these sets and it is included. Sprung via a wire linking the buffers through the hook
  11. Still happens now! My direct train to Paddington from the Greenford branch has been culled for Crossrail and we get a two minute connection at West Ealing. Even assuming they are on time, it takes longer than that to get over the tiny congested footbridge. Not surprisingly the trains are now very quiet and I wonder if the proposed increase in frequency will be quietly dropped. Although now it is an isolated siding, it is perfect for an auto train in the summer!!
  12. Its those little silver lights by the mirrors in the compartment that brought back memories for me. Must have seen them 1000s of times without ever taking any notice - or so I thought!
  13. In the finest Swindon tradition, of course!
  14. This was what I said in the comment I removed as thought maybe I was jumping in too soon with negativity! I cant quite decide if perhaps the whole boiler is too small? It all rather reminds me of one of my childhood drawings - everything is represented but the proportions, particularly around the front, don't quite hang together!

Interesting find. Trick of the light I think but the chevrons almost look blue (albeit very dirty) as well!
  16. Yes fair point and I've hidden my comment on that basis. It is marvellous to be getting so many models these days.
  17. How did you do the bits and pieces (I can't think of the right word - "lumps"?!) beneath the reporting numbers on the early front types? Slivers of plasticard sanded down?
  18. I finally dug my untouched Model Express version out of the loft today and the receipt was from 2001 (not surprising as I bought it after reading that article). Popped it on ebay tonight and it sold within 5 mins. Either I've just diddled myself or someone is very inspired by your work: lets assume the latter!

See page 12, post #295 earlier in this thread (try not to get too distracted by the doom and gloom going on back then!)
  20. Looks good. For me it's a pity that livery wasn't rolled out!
  21. It's either on top of the big fat square bit, or under it. Stop me if I'm getting too technical!
  22. And no need for mid chassis narrowing on this one either!
  23. I have one I've been meaning to sell for years as I'll never get round to building it. Go on, you know you want another!
  24. Hi, A deliberately open question - but in the context of garden railways - how long does a hedge take to grow?
