  1. Is it a Thames Trader in the pic? Radley do a 7mm resin one and could probably find a wagon to raid for the tank?
  2. covered here recently: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/172284-br-air-piped-brake-vans-tops-era/#comment-4840828
  3. Surely you don't need to know stuff to state it authoritatively. Have I totally misunderstood how forums work?
  4. Is this definite? I've seen it suggested elsewhere but Ive also seen it categorically stated all green 33s always had a silencer!
  5. Been discussed 1000s of times on here and the usual comments are: 1) not much more and it would be amazing because anything british is automatically best (51%) 2) cost a fortune and better off leaving things alone (49%) My data is out of date. it might be different today.
  6. Covered in the thread on here about global shipping charges.
  7. Not 43xx which is what we are discussing.
  8. In case you aren't aware, they dont actually have spares for sale. I've been getting the same reply that they havent yet sorted them out for a year or two.
  9. I always thin my frame dirt colour so it gives a slightly different finish depending on the original surface and allows lettering etc to show through. I give wooden foot boards a coat of light grey primer first as well to look more like sun bleached wood.
  10. Coming along nicely! Ive just moved and am toying with a garden line and the above photo caught my eye. Is there an advisable width for boards to prevent things plungung off in the case of a derailment, or do things tend to stay upright anyway? (hope I'm not tempting fate!).
  11. I was on a late running train heading towards Exeter last year and we were going to be tight for the hourly Barnstaple service. The kindly guard phoned from somewhere on Dainton and told them there were 20 odd poeple asking (winking at me as she did so). She told me where to be for the bridge and I raced over. We then waited a good 5-10 mins as a steady stream of people dawdled over and it was probably well over 20 in the end!
  12. Slightly off topic but I hope relevant, in the period immediately after refurb when headcodes were no longer in use, it seems inconsistent whether the destinatìon blinds were. I've found a couple of photos of my unit running with no destination showing in the box but would that be more likely a permanent thing, eg if, say, blinds weren't generally replaced once damaged or is it probably just temporary?
  13. Presumably the (printed?) silver is slightly out rather than the frames not actually lining up?
  14. We've been refering to chassis blocks but increasingly these days, footplates and sometimes boilers are cast items. Is this the same material?
  15. I dont know in these days of outsourced production, if the manufacturers are equally at the mercy of the factory? They can specify the quality of the zinc but can they tell what has actually been used?
  16. Lets not forget it isnt done deliberately. Like most discussions, this boils down to the almost universally overlooked problem that money doesnt grow on trees. If manufacturers were forced to fix everything we expect from 10 year old mazac rot to missing handrails and slightly wrong shape tooling, they would go bust.
  17. Thanks! The only slight dilemma is whether to seal the powders which would lose the contrast in finish so I think for my purposes I'll just avoid touching the tops.
  18. I got the impression at the time that people just didnt like the propulsion starting in the tender (particulary back in the days when things accelerated with a lurch). So the brake tender analogy completely misses the point. Bit of a wider point but in my long career at one company there were two ways of structuring my department and we had to put up with each new boss announcing a brilliant new way of doing things and switching back to the other one. When they asked my opinion i would say it was a waste of time, they would say i needed embrace change and I would retort, give me your bonus and i'll embrace anyone you like*. I think this phenomenon is colloquially known as progress. *this riposte actually happened in my head 3 hours later obviously.
  19. The key is they work. I'm not sure if just putting these new ones through a buffer beam slot with little sideways play would?
  20. I see Ellis Clark are bringing out some drop head couplings but I'm not sure how easy it would be to make them work on something the length of Mk1? I guess you could mount them on the close coupling cam (if thats the right word) that Dapol already supply although its a bit low and the existing ones work anyway. Would potentially be good for the end of rakes though.
