  1. Darton Station Box, on the L&Y line between Barnsley and Wakefield, 12 May 1983 and Woolley Coal Siding, and bit further north on the same line and on the same day
  2. Willesden Carr Shed Sth, an LMS box to my eyes, 16 May 1997
  3. I came across this in my garden on two days ago. My book tells me it's an Elephant Hawk-Moth. It measured up to the 54mm across the wings as in the book. In years past I have found the caterpillar in the garden as well.
  4. Worcester Shrub Hill Station, GWR, 20 April 1997
  5. Worcester Tunnel Junction Signal Box, a GWR box with external steps, from all four corners on 20 April 1997 and also showing the tunnel The new brickwork suggests that something did not stop at the buffer stop some time.
  6. It's always a good clue if the nameboard is there somewhere. Well spotted Moxy.
  7. The best I can do at the moment for dating these is some time in the 1980s A Caledonian Railway box, I think between Edinburgh and Carstairs. I hope someone will be able to tell us its name. Some from the Manchester area Agecroft Junction Deal Street, opposite Manchester Exchange Irwell Bridge Sidings, a few yards from Deal Street and Ashburys West, GCR
  8. Holyhead, 5 Aug 1987, with a 47 lurking inside the old loco shed Is this an LMS style box? Also Holyhead Freightliner Terminal Frame, a BR(LMR) type. with a ladies bicycle parked by the steps.
  9. Most of Anglesey's intermediate signal boxes have already been well covered but I'll throw in these two shots of Llanfair,P,G as one of the more interesting boxes before moving straight to Holyhead next time. Built by Saxby and Farmer, c1871 (that makes it 150 years old) for the LNWR. Photos taken 5 Aug 1987.
  10. Back to 5 Aug 1987 The 'new' box at Llandudno Junction, a BR(LMR) design Oh Look, Steps at both ends! Bangor No.2 as was, LNWR
  11. Abergele, LNWR, from all four corners in 1986 South West South East North West and North East
  12. Again 5 Aug 1987 Rhyl No.1 and Rhyl No.2 before the fire escape was fitted (see photo on P27 from 1991)
  13. The start of a trip from Crewe to Holyhead on 5 Aug 1987. Mainly LNWR signal boxes as far as I can tell. Beeston Castle & (T)arporley Mold Jct No.1 Talacre
  14. Where they were fitted, it was on the fireman's side i.e. left-hand drive locos had them on the right and right-hand drive locos had them on the left.
  15. They were October 1996, Hexham on 27th, Bedale on 28th.
  16. Ooops. Sorry Jonathan, which ones were they please. My list of 'posted' photos has now topped 1000 (not 1000 different boxes, just 1000 photos).
  17. At or around the East Anglian Railway Museum at Chappel and Wakes Colne on 8 Jan 1998. Firmly Great Eastern territory. Chappel North Chappel South and just Chappel
  18. The day before Bedale (i.e. 27 oct 1996), I ended up at Hexham and took the opportunity to get several shots of the elevated North eastern box there. Different from the usual telephoto shot from the station platform.
  19. I stopped at Bedale, North Eastern Railway, on 28 November 1996 and took the opportunity to take several photos of the box from as many different angles as I could, while I could. The number of photos may be tedious to some but I hope others may find the different views worth the effort. Plus a photo taken on a previous visit on 1 April 1985 with the earlier level crossing barrier. Just wikipeed it to find that the box is Grade II listed and part of the Wensleydale Railway preservation scheme. Also my last photo looks a lot like their photo of Leeming Bar station. Edit: Leeming Bar confirmed by @figworthy
  20. Thanks for the offer although the door and windows are open suggesting it was still working. Most (admittedly not all) MML boxes had name boards on the ends. IIRC there were Kibworth Station and Kibworth North
  21. Kirkby Summit, 1985. That's Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, a BR(LMR) design. Frisby Station, between Syston and Melton Mowbray, 1986, an LMS design I think and another anonymous one which is next in sequence to the Frisby photos so may be in that neck of the woods, it may equally be nowhere near as it is taken out of a train while Frisby was taken from the ground. Either way, it's a decapitated Midland box which is not Great Rocks. Edit: Thank you to @Andrea506 and @beast66606for telling us it's Kibworth Station box after closure in 1986
  22. So it's got into that rusty condition after only six years! They said the Vauxhall Victor was a rot box, how long did they last? Thanks again to you beasty. I don't think a name like that was ever on my Radar. Presumably the Boldon area bit is correct?
  23. Still in North Eastern land in 1985 I haven't got the name of this first one although it may be in my spotting book of the day if I could be bothered to look for it. In sequence it's between yesterday's Boldon Colliery and East Boldon so it's in that neck of the woods. Edit: beast66606 tells us it's Tile Shed. It's also another for the classic car folks out there. Is that an Alpha Romeo badge below the number plate? East Boldon
