  1. To the North East in 1985 Alnmouth, NER Boldon Colliery
  2. Two more from 1985. Mow Cop, North Stafford Rly. Complete with tea stain down the end. Rescued to somewhere in 2002. Madeley, LNWR*, WCML, not to be confused with Madeley Junction between Shifnal and Telford. This box (or at least some of it) is now at Brownhills station on the Chasewater Railway. *Edit: Thanks again to beast66606 who tells us this is an LMS box from 1931.
  3. Two North Stafford boxes today, both seen in 1985: Leek Brook Junction and Milton Junction, between Leek Brook and Stoke

  5. That may have been the first day in service for the LMS coach. It wasn't in the train on Bank Holiday Monday, 31 May, seen here from a footpath between Gorsey Bank and Wirksworth but was in yesterday (5 June) when I saw it at Shottle I presume it's the work of the LMS Carriage Assocition
  6. Basford Hall Junction at Crewe, LNWR, seen in 1985
  7. Crewe Sorting Sidings North, a BR(LMR) design from 1962. and Crewe Sorting Sidings South, seen in 1985. Not sure if this is of LNWR or LMS design.
  8. Pinxton, Midland Railway, seen in 1985 and on 11 June 1997. Spot the differences.

  10. Highley, Severn Valley Railway. Built by McKenzie and Holland in 1883. Seen in 1985. St Germains Level Crossing, a few miles east of Edinburgh on the ECML so presumably North British railway. Seen in 1985.
  11. Appleford, on the Great Western line between Didcot and Oxford, seen on24 April 1997.
  12. According to Google, that was the original station building including booking office and waiting room.
  13. Update/backdate from an earlier post. Ty Croes, seen on 10 Sept 1991 with wooden gates and better lighting. Chester and Holyhead Railway, 1872. and one of Gaerwen which got missed somehow, showing the steps at the rear of the box.

  16. On the Midland Main Line going south from Leicester in 1979 Knighton South Junction, an LMS style box Kilby Bridge, now at Hammersmith at the Midland Railway Centre Wistow and East Langton

  18. Yes indeed. I thought the old layout in the Wardwick was very nicely done scenically although it did have some mechanical limitations on the low level parts which were extremely difficult to get at if or when anything needed doing.

  20. Ooops! I did say they were a random selection. Right buttons, wrong order! More haste, less speed and all that. At least those boxes have readable signage so it should be a simple job for most folks to sort out what is what.

  22. These are from March (the place, not the month) on 17 April 1982 March West Junc, GER March Whitemoor Junc, GER(?) and this one, the newest looking one but obviously past its prime. A BR(E) build presumably but no nameboard visible. Any offers? Edit: It didn't take beast 66606 long to tell us it's March North, see next post. Second Edit: 62613 reckons it is March East.   23. Signal boxes on the GN & GE Joint line between Spalding and March, seen on 17 April 1982. The first two look to me to be in the GNR style. Postland French Drove and Twenty Feet River, built in 1974
