  1. Hi David The turntable is an Atlas ho turntable it is still available from retailers,it can be motorised, but I use the handcrank ,supplied ,it is not prototypical but that doesn't matter in this case ,as I was modelling a shed in a small space ,I racked my brains how I could get away with out using points,I am not very good with traversers and sector plates ,not now anyway ,so when I saw this turntable at Lord and Butlers,it clicked into my head,it works well and switches polarity too,as long as you line it up with the exit tracks spot on it's fine Cheers Brian
  2. Hi matey, as shed yards in general were not well ballasted,I laid the track straight into a layer of GREENSCENE yard filth textured "stuff", making sure it was worked well in to make it flat,I then scattered,WOODLAND SCENICS fine cinders and real coal dust on top .Using various matt black and track colour mixes ,I air brushed it all over to fade it back and blend it all in,which I think is very important on a layout this small.
  3. Hi a few new shots with new visitors to the shed ,taken outside in daylight.....whata treat, and, just to mention "ABERCYNON FACH" will be at the Newport Gwent show this weekend. Thanks folks
  4. Hi I have 5 Heljan Westerns ,2 with sound ,the Dapol model is excellent ,but as previous messagers have said I will not be ditching mine anytime soon ,they are fine for me,i have ordered a LTD edition Lord and Butler maroon model.to add and not replace. I also still prefer the Heljan class 47s too

  9. Hi Dai would that be an old black clerestory stores wagon/coach ???Thanks Brian I am just building a nu cast Taff Vale A tank to go on the layout for the Llantwit Fardre show in April
  10. Hi Marc a couple more for you I will have to have another photosession with some different stock
  11. Hi Marc I started the layout in October after selling Ranson Bridge,as you know I had already built the buildings some time ago. Without points,I only have the dcc bus and 1drop per road a bus for the lights,......yes much easier. Regards from your mate Brain.....I mean Brian
  12. Hi just read through this thread, I really admire the layout, and would love to build one based on the woodhead route ,as in common with previous posters I have a particular fondness for this line even though I am a South Wales WR man ,I travelled on it in its last weeks as a passenger route in December 1969,when arriving at Manchester on a mystery trip from Cardiff . It's the catenary I find daunting though ,I am just starting a new stay at home layout and am sorely tempted to breakaway from WR hydraulics etc and venture over the Pennines . Thanks for showing us your layout Regards Brian (Abercynon fach) ex Ranson Bridge
  13. Yes ,i thought that myself, they must have been in the dip bath in the last couple of days, may be some thinned down brown/black matt is required
  14. Well done Phil I will look out for it Brian

  20. ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO I SCRATCHBUILT A "COMPRESSED" VERSION OF ABERCYNON SHED WHICH WAS LOCATED IN THE SOUTH WALES VALLEYS JUST NORTH OF PONTYPRIDD,...FOR PURELY NOSTALGIC REASONS ,PASSING IT IN THE DISTANCE FROM THE OLD A470 ROAD ,STILL WITH WORKING STEAM , WHEN TRAVELLING AROUND THE AREA WITH MY FATHER WHEN I WAS 9 YEARS OLD. THE BUILDING NEVER HAD A LAYOUT FOR A HOME UNTIL NOW. AFTER SELLING MY OLD LAYOUT "RANSON BRIDGE " IN NOVEMBER 2012 ,I THOUGHT i WOULD BUILD A MICRO/SMALL LAYOUT FOR EXHIBTIONS THAT WOULD FIT IN THE BACK OF MY CAR IN ONE PIECE THE DIMENSIONS ARE 40 INCHES LONG BY 16 INCHES WIDE.......THE TRACK IS SMP CODE 75 (THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER USED IT ), THERE AE NO POINTS ...ALL FIDDLING AND TURNING DONE BY AN ATLAS TURNTABLE HIDDEN IN THE 8 INCH FIDDLE AREA. THE LAYOUT IS DCC AND SOUND HENCE ABERCYNON FACH WAS BORN OBVIOUSLY THE TRACK PLAN HAS BEEN RATIONALISED AS IS THE SCENIC BREAK AND BACKGROUND BUT I THINK IT GIVES A FLAVOUR OF THE PLACE AS I REMEMBER IT HERE ARE A FEW PHOTOS TO START THE THREAD ,HOPEFULLY WILL FOLLOW WITH SOME MORE PICS AND VIDEO CLIPS THANKS FOR LOOKING
