  1. Hi Sac martin, I too like the look of your weathering job on the 01, but have not succumbed to the weathering bug yet. Nor have I a 01 as I have enough 2-8-0's at the moment. I will wait for the Heljan 02 if it appears. Though I have an Airfix pug to build and will have a go at that first. I might then tackle something else like the 8F if it looks alright. Hi Doug, I have been working on the solution to the L1 front bogie and it works. I can not claim to be the inventor, but it certainly improves the side play. I have attached a photo. The hole goes under the first screw in the base plate. I bought a B1 at full price too and was disappointed when they discounted them. But it does run nicely and the Bachmann went onto ebay. I have ordered the P2 and will go nicely next to P2 Thane of Fife. And thats it. Mark
  2. Thanks Andy for posting Tony's photos and to Tony for allowing us the privilege of seeing his masterpeices in action on a masterpeice of a Layout. They are truly inspirational for a LNER/ECML modeller. Wishing You and Tony both a great New Year and plenty more modelling inspiriation to come. I like the engineers shed by Pacific models too. 3. HI Jeff, and Doug Thanks and wishing you too the best for 2013. The single viaduct was a bit more difficult as I had to disgard the internal framing supplied, but I am happy with the end result. I did consider getting the Wills viaduct, but that is a heavy product and again I would have to cut it down and I think making it the same as the double viaduct keeps it uniform. I have sealed both with a lacquer. I have laid some track over it and am running trains. I have a set of Hornby gresley suburban teaks, will pass on the Thompsons though. I picked up from a fellow LNER modeller in UK a Comet Gresley Restaurant Triplet set, unfinished, but well built and painted. Just have to attach made bogies, interior and roof, but a good buy I think. I have ordered a P2 high spec. That will go nicely with my streamline P2 Thane of Fife. I have also ordered an A4 Sir Nigel Gresley, thankfully that is all for the coming year at least from Hornby. Haven't ordered an 01 as I have 3 2-8-0's (04, 8F & 7F) so don't need another one. Though if Heljan produce the 02 with GNR cab in 2014, then I will hang out for that one. The B17 has been run in and was pulling a set of gresleys today, the detail stuff is fragile, like drain cocks and steps. I always like my tender drive B17 which had improved running, but sold that. Keep up the good work and easter is not to far away. Mark
  4. Hi Jeff, Good progress there. Hope you had a good Christmas and did Santa bring you anything for the Railway? For an LNER modeller, all the A4's, B17's, etc are coming at once. I even got the Bachmann SECR C class, very nice model. I have finished my single line viaduct and it is planted and trains running over it. That was today. I am using the old camera so photo is not the best. Have a great new year, and I should make it down sometime soon. I think Frank K is in March, so will try to make that. Mark
  5. Hi Robert, Looks like you are progressing well on the MPD. The B17 is certainly the right colour/team, but not doing so well lately. Tom should be worried! lol. excellent stuff. Is the Signal Bo in photo 6 of post 270 a scratch built or the Knightwing model? Looks very nice. MArk in OZ
  6. Fast Fitted Freight! Thanks for the video. Have a merry Christmas Gordon. Mark
  7. Hi Matt, Fantastic job you have done on all the locos, particularly H2 Bright Atlantic Beachy Head. Having walked the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head its very fitting, reminds me of that time with our friends in Eastbourne last year and the Bluebell and seeing the boiler in the shed. Like the tender pickups and will have to improve the LNER C1 by adding the same system. Now that you have finished that, I would think you might see Bachmann release one? haha. Well done on the lining too. Mark in OZ
  8. Nice shop in a beautiful village. The Model railway is a bonus too. Was there in May 2011 for a visit. Mark in OZ
  9. Hi Gilbert, Hope you hit a hole ine one. That may spark the inspiration. I am sitting at my desk on the other side of the world trying to sort a short or some other problem with my Hornby BR A4 Wild Swan, inspired by your dilemmas about not have enough goods wagons/trains. I have just found myself the book Goods Traffic on the LNER at the most reasonable price from the UK, so will have some material to hand soon I hope so I can get a better idea. Good to have a local man with that knowledge. The A4 just doesn't want to go. Mark in OZ
  10. Hi Rick, Nice work on the layout. Its funny what you see with foreigners having a run on the layout. I had some very new American Locos and rolling stock running last weekend. I also have to build a viaduct and am leaning towards the Wills kit, how did it go together? Would you recommend it? I have to cut it down to single track and a little shallower, 132mm to track level. Mark
  11. Hi Paul, Well done looks like a nice machine. You know that when you finish this one of the rtr manufacturers will announce one. I picked up on ebay in Australia a DJH Q7 for around 47GBP/$74 apx incl postage which is on its way to me now. It looks to be finished okay and has pick on one side of tender and one side of loco. Will add extra pickups on loco and check out motor, a DS10. may change it if possible. look forward to seeing progress & finished item. Mark
  12. Hi Gilbert, It is a beauty. I received my NRM Butler Henderson yesterday in OZ and it runs very nicely. Lots of extra items to fit too. I thought of getting the D11/1 Prince Albert, still might, but would like to wait for 2013 announcement of a D10, specifically 5433/62654 Walter Burgh Gair, only because he is related somewhere along the line. Must get those family books back from my neice. Mark in OZ
  13. This is good news. another LNER workhorse. I have not ordered the Hornby 01 even though it looks good, so will definitely save my pennys for this one though. Mark in OZ
  14. Kernow Model Centre has stock listed on their website. Email received to notify they are in. Mark in OZ
  15. Hi Matt, Well done on the Brighton Atlantic project. Its looking good. Reminds me of the time at the Bluebell rly when i saw the Atlantic in the back of the workshop. Beachy Head we visited/walked the seven sisters withsome friends too. Mark in OZ
  16. Hi David, Very impressive and nice to see the progress. Maybe your family can help in the building since you have it displayed on the dining table. Looking forward to seeing more. My shed's only 4 roads. Mark in OZ
  17. Welcome aboard and will watch with interest. Mark in OZ too.
  18. Nice space for a model railway. Well done to you and your wife for allowing such a thing to happen. I have read a couple of Railway Modeller adds which state a railway room with house attached to my wife, fortunately they are in the UK. Any way I have a 8m square (26'sq apx) shed, but half is for all the tools and workbench. The model takes up 20' x 8', but will have a removeable branch line built which take up 1.5m(5') by 3.6m (12') Mark
  19. Hi Gilbert, Hope you beat the virus. Thanks for posting the wonderful photos. How is the Director for pulling power? How many coaches did you have behind it? I have a Bach/NRM City of Truro 4-4-0, which I aim sell, but it has no trouble pulling 7 Bachmann Mk1's on the flat. I have ordered the Bach/NRM Butler Henderson, will probably buy the D11/1 Prince Albert, and have put in a request with Bachmann for a D10 5433/62654 Walter Burgh Gair. Mark in OZ
  20. Hi Mick, Loco and van looking good. Mentioning Steve Banks, I have found that he has a new book due out in January on LNER Train Formations. Did you know about that? I certainly will look out for this one. LNER Passenger Trains & Formations 1923-1968 Steve Banks & C Carter jan 2013 us$43 I have ordered Modelmaster J-E Sir Nigel gresley nameplates to fit on my Blue Sparrow Hawk as they were 20% off, so succumbed. Also a LNER Lining sheet and Liverpool nameplate and No for BR B17 when they arrive. Mark
  21. Well done on the progress of the 4F kit. You can definitely see the difference in the size of the bearings. An excellent point to remember. I envy you, as it is the activity media dvds that got me into at least buying a couple of loco kits to do. I had a photo published in BRM and suggested they send a DVD instead of a cheque for GBP25. As I have worked in banking, it would cost me too much to be worth anything. So I suggested the Copenhagen Fields dvdv, but got the 2 loco kit building ones. TW makes its seem so easy. But there are a few things to look out for and watching the dvds helps. Having 'the master' TW to call on is even better. Look forward to your progress. I have put all kit building aspirations aside as I have a BRMA (British Rly Modellers of Australia) meeting at my place in a months time, so the layout is a priority. Then the kits will come out when it is a little warmer. keep up the good work Mark in OZ
  22. TW has a lot of explaining to do, does he not? I was sent the 2 activity dvds on loco building and have a LNER Garratt to finish off and a SEF LNER W1 to do. Will do an O gauge A3 Cab first for testing my abilities first. Good choice too Gilbert, I was thinking of doing a LNER J21 (London Rd Models). Mark
  23. Hi Gilbert, Lovely photos really. Ditto re: Tom's comments. Like TW's B12. We may yet see a proper B12 from Hornby once the B17 short GER tender arrives. Congratulations on reaching 100, not years but pages. Mark in OZ
  24. Marvelous stuff. B17 Liverpool, go reds. I was planning to renumber/rename a Hornby B17, but the lner version is the smaller GE tender, wrong for Footballers. Not much progress on my layout other than wiring up points and motors. Mark
  25. Hi Jerry, Looking good. superb work on Bath 'Green park/square' station. The photos of the real thing remind me of my visit last year (April-May) when we visited the station. Shame that its a car park now, but at least its still standing. Looking forward to seeing more progress. Mark in OZ
