  1. Another batch of which? Clayton class 17 or 28's? Many of the latter are now being discounted by Hattons, and I thought that Heljan had done all the variants of the Claytons. Nothing on Heljans website either

    class 33

Where the Ep's in Ngauge then, presumably?? A 4mm one would be interesting though , as it would go head to head with the Heljan/Rail Exclusive one..

    Hornby 2 BIL

Modelzone in Manchester (Tues) also has BR 2 Bils. No discounts, though this could change....
  4. I do remember that the top of those yards by what was then London Road station were shunted by J11's locos from Gorton in the mid/late 1950's, although I am not sure how far down steam locos were allowed to go. The forthcoming Bachmann model will be a good choice for a model, tho I think 08's came along in the early 1960's.
  5. From 1960 to 1965 Stockport Edgeley shed (9B) had EE locos D3771/2 allocated to it as well as D4145 briefly in '64. The first 2 used to shunt the yards on the east of Edgeley station, and Adswood sidings, from memory. Jubilee Sidings at Heaton Norris was a 9A shunter duty at that time. Also 12010,12024 were shedded at 9B in 1965, though I never saw them; it could have been a 'paper' transfer.
  6. Has JohnW1 got any more listings for Colwick ? - say 'on this day' in 1965 or earlier - 1963 ? It was a big old shed in its heyday and the early diesel era is of great interest to many of us. Great thread this BTW!!
  7. In my 1960 shedbook I note that Heaton Mersey had 3 class 08 shunters allocated to it. Never seen any photos of them, and I dont think that they even made it to George St goods, let alone Tiviot Dale station. Numbers were D3852-4 inclusive for the record. Anone got any images out there??

    Heljan Class 16

And a J11 surely, and possibly an L1 too....
  9. Are the wheels in the pictures above 10.5 mm, rather than 8.5mm? They do look terrific.
  10. Noticed to-day that Hattons are down to their last few of D5389 in blue, small yellow panels. You know that these will fetch silly prices-like the two tone green ones did - in a year or two.

    Dapol 'Western'

One for Dapol Dave really-when will there be some spare headcode box assemblies available for D1000 ? Should I ring or contact Dapol direct as the originals on my D1000 split when I tried to remove them (like many people).
  12. Curious to know how far North these engines went. I have a picture of one, 47976 at a location just north of Whatstandwell by the Cromford Canal in the book 'Main Lines in the Peak District', by C.P. Nicholson. Its heading south light engine; my guess is that it maybe worked to the Chinley/Gowhole/New Mills area. My spotter buddies tell me that they did not get as far as Manchester on the old Midland route. I always thought that they were usually at Toton and south of there on coal drags to the home counties, unless someone out there has seen then in the North West. Any sightings?

My D1000 is still noisy after several weeks. The Heljan ones however seem much smoother running!

    Heljan Class 16

Yes the 16 looks spot on- but the Baby Deltic too looks different, and better, from the earlier ones- especially around the cab /nose area certainly on Model Rails Facebook page at least-or am I seeing things??

    Dapol 'Western'

Neils Heljan Western looks pretty darn close after the 'judicious filing', so I may give it a go -if I can get hold of a Heljan marooon one! None on Ebay currently. As for indicator numerals, the Dapol ones do look wrong as most people have spotted, so I used spares from a Heljan Hymek on my Dapol D1000 and they look pretty close.Anyone else tried them?

    Dapol 'Western'

Great pics and clearly the Dapol one is now the 'definitive' class 52. However how exactly can the Heljan 'peaked cap' effect be removed though? It probably looks pretty close when it is done-anyone know how? any images??

    Dapol 'Western'

Dapol Dave- is there any chance of doing a replacement headcode glazing unit from your service department for the D1000 run? Could be a useful spare anyway. They are easy enough to get at- without removing the cab itself- but very brittle. When I tried to remove the black lines on the clear glazing they cracked and split when I tried to remove the black lines from them.

    Dapol 'Western'

I agree with all the positives about Dapol on this - the work they have done and the way they involved their customers in the CAD process . The only 'negative' is that the finish on the green class 52 featured on page 1 in this thread here looks a bit too matt or flat, compared to the prototype. It needs to have a more satin shine. The recent run of Bachmann Warships was very good in this respect, with green and blue well represented indeed. This finish problem was the same Dapol had with their 4mm class 22's. Perhaps a spray of satin varnish would improve it.

    Heljan class 17

Thats a really terrific image as most cameras were pointing at steam along this stretch of line back in '68. Anyone got any pictures of a class 17 actually banking though?? Did they last long.....
  20. Referring back to D369, this was not one of the original batch of class 40's that went to Haymarket; they were D260-266, and D357-D368. According to my 1965 shedbook D369 was then at Camden (1B). Hope that this helps

    Dapol Class 22

Perhaps Dapol Dave would condiser doing both the headcode box and the disc versions in gloss green? Maybe a gloss blue one as well?
  22. On one of the DVD's (Diesel/Electric on 35mm?) there is definitely a four coach Scottish Region class 101 green set going into Edinburgh Waverley circa 1962 and one of coaches clearly has 'BUFFET' on it. Scope for a limited edition run if Bachmann do a centre car.

    Dapol Class 22

Its great that we are getting version 2 of the class 22, full marks to Dapol, But.................... please, please Dapol Dave can we have a nice richer more satin green on the disc versions, like those Bachmann people manage on their 4mm Warships? Floods version of the blue shows how really good (and correct!!) the model can be made to look with a decent lick of paint.
