  1. There is a New Westminster station on the Skytrain Expo line in Vancouver - would that get me to the Railroad yard photographed above?
  2. I agree about the Clan and Brit being some of Hornby's finest- will they ever do any more Clans though??
  3. Loooks promising ..and I love the Stirling single loco (?) in lined BR black - an early EP of the Rapido loco? lets hope they do some nice liveries like this
  4. Hi Has this layout appeared in Rail Express yet? not a reader but would like to see some more images of this layout. Came to this layout late but its quite inspirational-well done. Marc -Imagine what you could do with those Peco 40" radius points? -when they appear regards Paul

    Hornby D16/3

My D16 has begun to stutter and stop at random places on my layout. The track is clean, all pickups are fine, the DCC chip is OK. Dismantling the loco, the only untoward factor seems to be that two the driving wheels has become discoloured-like a yellowish sheen. I have tried to clean or remove it but it seems that the metal itself has lost its original sheen though the wheels are not dirty as such. Would this affect conductivity? Has anyone else seen this problem? A fix would be appreciated as I really dont want the loco to go back to Hornby, possibly to disappear in some 'service' dept. .
  7. hello Les Like John Flann (and a few others) I like the style of this layout. In particular the composition is quite simple with a nice blend of kit and scratch built structures that help to make it different, but also because the scenery/backscene is restrained and not overdone. The trains are centre stage, which I think is important-even if some think that this makes me a 'toy train man'. I suspect the use of some of the older models brought back sweet memories for RMweb members when the world seemed simpler and cheaper too! Those Collett coaches look sweet though!!
  8. A class 22 diesel would be perfect -it has the hymek warship and western for company and would be great for smaller O layouts due to its length. Book me in for two! (discs and indicators)
  9. Anyone had a close look at the new Kernow Bachmann OO gauge WR class 47's ? The use of number/name combo D1670 'Mammoth' takes me back to the old Hornby one in the 1970's-1980's. It seems to have both the WR red spot route classification, and the steam era shedplate missing though. Any other problems with this model?
  10. The Hawksworth 16XX pannier would make a nice companion to the Dean Goods, ran in Scotland too....so there is scope for a J36 or a Caley Jumbo too!!
  11. I have ordered some and also made an advance booking into the marriage reconciliation service as a precaution....
  12. Although this looks a well finished model, there seems to be no way of closing the large gap between the loco and tender without fashioning out a new connector between the two.I understand that it is expected to go around Radius 1 or 2 curves, but it looks excessive. The tender and the loco chassis are both new (ish), but the body is based on the old Mainline one... any LMS buffs out there taken a slide rule to it? The dome looks a little off the mark or is it my failing eyesight?
  13. Anyone got close ups of the green liveried one? Running number(s)?
  14. The class 37 on the Bornemouth-York could be D6802, as Darnall/Tinsley engines were used on this, and not D6702 a Stratford engine at the time?
  15. This is a record of a Thornaby depot visit October 30th 1960 Present were; D2078, D3148, D3138, D3143, D3147 60806 60846 60859 60901 60885 60911 60915 60960 61019 61173 61220 61255 61257 61303 61304 61818 61844 61906 62001 62042 63341/44/49/55/60/64/67/69/70/71/75/80/88/89/93/99 63405/09/11/16/17/20/24/26/30/42/51/52 64725 64821 64857 64859 64870 64861 64845 65691 65720/36/45/47/51/53/55/56/62/68/69/72/74/78/88/90 67754/64/66 68025/39/62 68272 68689/90 68721 69006 90027/48/72/81/86/90 90132 90240/73 90409/26/34/51/62/65/67/79/81 90500/17/93 Surprised at the number of V2’s-anyone know what they worked on? 9 other depots were visited in the NE and a grand total of 663 locos (diesels and steam) seen including those on the journey by train up to York/ North East . We caught a coach at Darlington (United) for moving around the area. We were not allowed to visit Gateshead, as it was being converted to diesel at the time, though we did manage a trip around York South shed that was home to a line of B16, Jinties and lots of pigeons. Will send some more when I get the energy if people like this kind of data. Hope the NE fans find this of interest Paul
  16. More pertinently, how much did FGW pay design consultants for the livery/logo? From the limited number of images seen it looks a little dull and suffers from the some problem as Grand Centrals HST sets; from a distance the train looks like a featureless, windowless dark tube.
  17. Some of the older DMU 'greens' on the WR were a little different to the one eventually settled on such as the 117 to be produced by Bachmann. There was a light (unlined) green used possibly on 116's; there was also the dark shade that had a hint of blue in it (like the photos above), again unlined. Some interesting repaints/commissions are possible!
  18. On D865 does the body shade of maroon look different from the maroon used on the chassis ? Or is it a trick of the lighting on that particular image? The body maroon looks a bit dark....

    EBay madness

    love the spelling too...somehow appropriate
  20. Are there any dates for the release of the earlier Scottish batch ? The very first batch that went to the ER (east Anglia) and migrated to the North West (Liverpool area) had smaller driving wheels (3'4") and cabs than the NER and Scr ones -have Heljan said they were doing those?
  21. the article about the hydraulics in the above looks interesting, does anyone know the source? Paul
  22. I have bought some pre-owned wagons (Airfix, Mainline) that have been reasonably priced and in good condition, and the shop is OK for that. Locos are another matter, I would not buy, as dont have to and I am not a collector - though their prices are interesting to compare to Ebay's.
  23. Another run of GBRf class 20's -updated possibly-would be nice.
