I did report this after examining a special edition, I basically disassembled this so called etched plate.
What it actually is, is a brass plate.... blank not etched with a transfer on top of it.... again.. it's basically what Hornby designed it to be. Cheap, cheap to make cheap to manufacture.
I did write that on the main Duke of Gloucester topic... which has gone un-noticed.I use Fox's etched plate pack.
-
Thanks for the mention, much better...
Why Hornby did not do this? items maybe cheap but I guess the Labour to put it on isn't.
But still I guess we are modellers so we have to do something to the models, nice to see Hornby doesn't seem to have included too much Design Clever stuff on the 2014 range... well we hope.
-
Damn I'm going blind... never saw those despite having 2 sheets of them.
Nah not stressful, all in good fun... is it me but in some shots does the green look lighter on the 71000 than it does on the Brit? I have a Brit also... and certainly looks slightly darker.
Many thanks for your help Ray, I did do a you tube review of the RR version... sadly mostly backing up what 071 was saying above...
-
Another interesting read, I have completely stripped my model down, I dare not remove the moulded on pipes in case of damage to the body, so that will have to do.
What sheet of HMRS are you using for the overhead power warning symbols? Got a few sheet's but not seen those, then again, I haven't actually used or looked for them before.
In terms of comparison between the 2, it's like 2 different era's of Hornby... one from about 10+ years ago... and Apollo something they should be continuing to do now.
-
I decided last night to take the plunge.... but ordered the Railroad version... as I don't see an extra
-
They are pretty much the same Super detail and Railroad anyway, only difference is some painted bits, smoke deflectors and a detail pack... body tooling is about the same.
-
Looks like your missing the front mounting point, which I think from memory is 2 parts which hold the nut to attach it to the chassis, should be one of these at the rear or a machine screw.
-
Card kit Ashbury's.... never heard of those interesting, I would imagine a heck of a lot of work plus to get them stable and useable would be a challenge...
Yes I guess with Card you can get the 3D to get all the mouldings with various layers... still not to sure on card kits for coaches... but yes I think the 3D stuff will be a big thing to get more bespoke or difficult to get rolling stock.I said LNER.... did I say saloon... well bit of a give away I suppose, the body is pretty much done which im happy with, the roof is done apart from the top lights which I hope to sort out in the next week or so, roof vents are the same on the side of the top lights to the Mets the others are the oval squashed type, but should see something end of the month. it looks quite good already.. plus using Hornbys Gresley bogies... thank the lord haha... was a night mare doing the Met ones.
-
That looks good! I do like that, always good to add additional details... even though you won't see much of them but least you know they are there.
Good news though the Met coaches are progressing slowly..... although I keep getting distracted by other things.... damn that LNER saloon....
Anyway looks smashing, I have a few shots of sarah Siddons from steam on the met so if you need any let me know... think I may have a couple. -
We are making progress, I'm very lucky to of found a guy on here who's actually doing rigid 8 Met coaches, and after some talks we are working together on it, he's done some nice work so far, problem is it makes my work look crap haha.
The coach bodies are all built just need checking over and adjustments, on some mouldings.
The bogies and chassis have started to take shape, spent 3 hours last night redrawing the bogie which was a challenge, but changed a lot of things thanks to him who's adjusted them so the bogies are attached with a screw, I would post some images but my photobucket is maxed out haha, so set up a Facebook group.
I did look at just making parts like the body, bogie ect... but because of the unique length... there wasn't really any chassis that would fit... and finding on shapeways interesting coaches... but just the body and no chassis was quite frustrating, I think it would make it more open if all the parts were available... leave it to choice. Then comes the choice of material.
UFD is quite expensive so looking round, may just use white strong and flexible for a test see how they go, but I think it won't be too long till you see something. -
Looking good, reminds me must really try and get a group together to work on these Met coaches.
-
Man thats some old videos by me.... where did you dig that up from... haha
Sad to here of the end of the layout always a sad day when its taken apart... for me i cannot bring myself to do it.
I hope if you do another i wish you the best for it. And you never know i may / may not see you on the 10th.- 1

Very nice done a similar thing to my P-Class... but with Decal paper.
-
its a good feeling when you build a kit or rebuild one and it works first time...
Shame I couldn't make it that evening, sadly getting transport to the club is proving difficault these days. The atlantic looks smashing, something I've been after for a couple of years.
Looks great, glad you enjoyed your evening, Hopefully will get up there with my Observation car eventually.

Some nice pictures there hope to get up there for the Auturm gala, sad it is the only BOB running... sadly 34059... still out for a long time... still trying to get various other engines done to fill in for it... don't see that running till mid or end of 2013
-
Beautiful model... one thats been overlooked by model manufacturers these days such a shame the Atlantics haven't been looked at. Been after a LBSC H2 Atlantic for a while...

Been watching this a while, I have dabbled a bit in 2mm modelling, and I am mighty impressed with what you have built there! Great stuff.

Good report Simon, layout looking in good shape and nice to see a crowd around it!

-
interesting... looks like Hornby taken the chassis and wheels off the malachite SR IOW terriers and plonked it under the new terriers.... which is probably the reason for the difference.... and probably cutting corners to reduce cost of production...
