    Base Boards part 2

Hi Dave, good to see progress. Out of interest, will there be something to guide alignment of the tracks?
  2. Very nice. I especially like no. 1677. Thanks Mike for making sure these invaluable photos are shared and preserved for the future.

    Cattle dock

Hi Al, this is very interesting. I intend to do something similar on my next layout, but have been wondering how to do the "breaks". I had been wondering about cobbles and you demonstrate very well here that it can work. I like the tufts of grass at the end of the dock that help give it an embedded look. Thanks!

Nah, we've got the mags so who needs this sort of thing? :-)

Agreed. It all sounds very unpleasant and stressful!

  5. Hi Mike, what a nice header picture! And thanks for the tip about use the internet archive for tracking old books, I'm off to try that now.
  6. Beautiful, this will be quite something! We expect to see a special 40th anniversay train shortly :-)
  7. Hi missy, that Foden looks very good, even if it's not choc and cream :-) As for the signwriting, I dread to think how tricky it could be in your scale, but for you I assume it's a doddle. Maybe there's a suitable local company mentioned in one of Kevin Robertson's books?
  8. I have long since taken my revenge on fascism. My trains never run on time.
  9. Great stuff Colin, I especially like the first shot showing how the station would have fitted into the town plan. It's like watching the DNSR coming alive - and all those failed hopes finally coming true! It' also good to know that the GWR finally relented and gave the DNSR a chance. They really did not treat that railway very nicely, using it as a pawn in the politics with the LSWR if I remember the history correctly.
  10. All this business with wives and off-spring and what not is very time consuming. Whoever came up with that silly idea? Gets in the way of modelling, it does.

But I know it isn't always easy ( I have experience with that)

  11. Hehe, for sure I will. I just thought it was appropriate to say now that you have a new calendar :-)

    Three lovelies

Hi Al, looks like a very good buy. The Slaters LMS van seems to be this 8 ton MR van: http://shop.cooper-craft.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=18_21&products_id=110
  13. Hi Mark, yes the VoR has tempted a few times! I hope Heljan will deliver on time!
  14. So much progress already! And the coaling stage and ash plant are just for scale?! But they look like excellent models! I hadn't noticed that the Scalescenes coal stage was the Didcot type, thanks for making that clear. It all looks very good already.
  15. Indeed, and I love those photos of Bridge Street. So much atmosphere! I like how your blog entries also bring something new and unexpected, Job. A very nice use of the blog concept. Happy new year! :-)
  16. Ah yes, those rainstrips, I keep forgetting them too! I'm very impressed by this conversion, looking at the pics I would have sworn they had nothing to do with Lima! Very convincing. I like your version of lake, looks good.
  17. Hi Ray, this is very nice, it all blends together very well. The curve works especially well, I think. Hope we get to see some more. About the gardening: Can't you argue that you have to practice on the layout first? :-)
  18. Very nice. You make 009 look very attractive. I'm worried about the guard, though. I didn't know they had quicksand in Devon ;-)
  19. Hi Job, this is just excellent, I really like your creative way of searching for and making things out of card and paper - if you had told me that pipe was made of the finest soldered brass I would have believed you. I am trying to catch after some time away, but the roof in your last post was fantastic too.
  20. These are mobile phone shots, so quality not very good but I think the photos make a point: This is Elsinore station, it's late Sunday afternoon today, and it's raining cats and dogs. All the grumpy commuters are relaxing in their comfy sofas. Meanwhile, someone is out there in the rain, making sure the trains will run on time. (I hasten to add that I'm just one of the commuters, though rarely grumpy!)
  21. Hi Colin. What an excellent project and thread. The DNSR is one of my favourite lines, and I've always hoped to do the might-have-been terminus too some day (or maybe a connection to the docks!). This will be great to follow, thanks for your effort in writing it all up.
  22. Bit of a revolution for the 4mm Edwardian modeller, it seems. Look forward to seeing the working and middle classes!
  23. Hi Rob, I know it's post-nationalisation, but have you seen these photos of oil trains on the Warwickshire website: http://warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrqhy1995.htm http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrbg2278.htm And you don't necessairly need a large layout for them either: http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrw2193a.htm
