  1. That takes me back. I bet the grey panel is a replacement, the corner parts under the headlights were easily broken off from memory and were an MOT failure if not replaced.. Agree about the rust proofing, the wheel arches on the van variants went very quickly...
  2. That drawbar unit must have been painful on hills with only 94hp on hand...
  3. I have been adding some detail to the silo. Firstly some Rivet detail via the Railtec Transfers and a caged ladder. In hindsight I would have done the cladding differently with smaller panel gaps if I had thought about the rivets at the start Also I made the safety handrails from I beam and 0.7mm rod which was tricky but not as bad as expected
  4. You can get a collapsible tool which allows you to measure the height of vehicles to check before you set off, tend to be drivers carrying irregular loads who have them eg Low Loader drivers, recovery vehicles etc. Even if the driver had one, looking at the amount of damage to the Range Rover, the load was a good 12inches higher than the bridge so didn't correlate the height of the bridge with the load rather than a "It had new tyres fitted yesterday and the road was resurfaced last week, I only had 50% of a load and it was riding high so I just skimmed the bridge" type scenario...
  5. "Joanna was really excited when she found out her new Range Rover sport was actually a previously unannounced open top model..."
  6. Look good! Would potentially be up for a MK2 Bison cab if you produce another one?
  7. Possibly or maybe a splitter in the box. First truck I drove had an Eaton twin split, from recollection you put it in the first gate, then used the switch for gears 1, 2 ,3 then went to the second gate for 4,5,6 etc. I later drove an ERF EC with a fuller range change box from recollection that was similar to the image above I.e. the first gate was gears 1 , 5 , 9 and the second gate was gears 2, 6, 10. Needless to say I found that out by stalling the thing going for what I thought was 2nd...
  8. Great result for Lando, finally! Nick Heidfeld gets his most podiums without a win record back.. At the other end of the grid, Kevin Magnussen is 2 penalty points away from a one race ban. I imagine a young man from Chelmsford is expecting a call soon.. " Hi Ollie, It is Ayao Komastu, you free next weekend for a spot of driving?"
  9. Happy to bring my slice of Bristol O gauge Dieselness next year if of interest to Warners....
  10. They draw about 0.65 so should be fine, I use a 1amp controller and have removed the second motor on my larger diesels to keep the current draw below 1amp
  11. I would be tempted to add a white strip around the cab above the grille level just to break it up. In the 1970s it was more common than you think to have multi colour cabs as they had a longer working life (especially a heavy haulage truck) so worth considering
  12. Ouch! Leyland FGs were never the quickest of things either so not an ideal ambulance!
  13. I managed to leave the layout up overnight as we were all at an 18th Birthday party last night hence no need for the TV which was behind the layout. First bit of progress was on the cement silo. The silo is a tight fit and is in two parts with the body being separate from the lower section to enable the top to be slid in place. This is not really ideal as things like pipes and the ladder stretch the full height of the silo. I have decided to bite the bullet and glue the 2 sections together as it can be installed by unscrewing the top of the layout. It will rarely need to be removed and is a 5 minute job to take the top off. I test fitted the ladder and the access platform for the silo I then made a frame for the platform which was then glued in place and the ladder threaded through to test the fit. I need to make some securing brackets for the ladder where it meets the silo side Before I glue the 2 parts together I have separated them and given them a coat of paint. The placement of the road vehicles has been worked out, a blue sherpa van will go near the Leyland National and in a nod to both Peafore Yard and Pallet Lane, the BR crew van will go in the cement siding yard. I have also cracked on with the platform surface as I want to get the platform in place to finish the ballast.
  14. Rubbish weather today so blasted out all the jobs on the list I had to do early doors so I could set the extension up. Firstly I laid the buildings out now the canopy is in place on the warehouse to see how it looked. It appears to have slightly warped but looks easily corrected, the pillars are just loosely in place at the moment As I can work on buildings off the layout I decided to concentrate on jobs that needed the layout up. First bit was the road and pavement on the left of the layout so I can get on with the bank. The road slopes towards the front of the layout and also has the entrance to the cement yard. To cover the ply I cut a layer of thin card to the correct shape then added thicker card for the base of the pavement. A fence will separate the pavement from the bank with grass and weeds taking over the area behind the buffer stop. I also progressed the ballast, the beauty of such a small layout is this is only a few hours work from start to finish
  15. It is off to Ruddington on the GCR(N) according to the video interview with the owner
  16. Wow, they really are desperate to have him... I can't see Toto and Helmut seeing eye to eye, if it happens then I imagine the contract will have some way to keep Max but pension Helmut off quite quickly
  17. No idea I am afraid, I guess a bit of headline marketing. Nice to see 37108 smartened up, it has been a coat of many colours for years and it looks to have had a load of missing bits put back on it. Also it looks like it is on the move from Crewe to the Great Central Railway so imagine was a way to spread the cost
  18. 37108 is the centrepiece apparently: https://www.flickr.com/photos/191817832@N03/53679203750/in/photolist-2pMrX7W-2pMkaxD-2pMpjAz-2pMpjxU-2pMiNyR-2pM735Y-2pLQUa8-2pLJ9rV-2pLDCvX-2pLLr6M-2pLojmR-2pKRSqs-2pJWr3v-2pJWr1G-2pJVaXR-2pJWgrS-2pJXvE1-2pJxpAh-2pJ3Ycf-2pHDMur-2pHj5NH-2pGNNJ5-2pFHJbm-2pFJAza-2pFDoMH-2pEAeaD-2pDQ3GY-2pD3vh9-2pz79Cr-2pyS8N9-2pyqGdW-2pyrndf-2pyrWBf-2pxu61G-2pwabbB-2psLay7-2prTT1d-2pqaom4-2pqayKE-2poCYkU-2po2t33-2po3jfT-2pnMpLo-2pn73hN-2pkDy2V-2pitc1u-2pi6HzH-2pgGwhd-2pgHHG7-2pgyPjA/
  19. I have to go to Kensington Olympia on Thursday for work so will be interested to get a sense of the area vs the layout, I haven't been for years!
  20. As @Camperdown suggests MH do the kits, they also do/did one for the dual door Bristol VRT that Bristol/Oxford/Southdown had albeit you are on your own re moving the staircase. Have a look for "Jeff Day" on Flickr, he has doen a few Bristol Bus model conversions. Having recently model a BOC Leyland National (albeit in 1:43) I look forward to seeing your results!
  21. Very nice Nick, the hopper body is very effective
  22. Looking at 47464, it lost the Dominoes pre large loco livery, when in large logo the plated headcode panel was painted black.
  23. RABA definitely weren't sold in the UK but as you say the MAN version were common, Gateway supermarkets had quite a few for example. Equally the cab was used by Saviem/Renault which were less common in the UK but at least one is preserved. Look forward to seeing the finished model, I am Intrigued by what you have planned for the load.. It has given me an idea for a model of a Lorry from a certain famous haulier from Burnham on Sea with yellow and blue lorries who had a lot of work starting in the Barry Island area..
  24. Thanks, it was definitely a beast in it's day!
