  1. Very envious of your space! I liked Oxford Road when I saw it at Cheltenham so will follow with interest..
  2. When I used to do offroading in the early 2000, I met a couple of guys who had them who said they were great. As cheap as a Suzuki SJ, but as capable as a Series Land Rover but distinctly warmer and more usable on a daily basis
  3. Interesting project, always liked class 60s, 60095 which appears in the poster in one of your posts was the first one I saw at Buxton.
  4. What he said! I have modelled D1023 so could probably do with D1013...
  5. I recall being told by somebody who worked for one of the bus manufacturers that the roofs are deliberately designed to shear off at the base of the pillars to minimize injurys to Passengers in the case of a bridge strike as the roof effectively passes over their heads rather than crumpling on top of them. This change came on the back of an accident, possibly the Glasgow one refered to earlier. If you look at images of bridge strike from 1st gen rear engine buses such as a fleetline or Bristol Vr you will see the roof crumples up like a ball of paper, unlike the Trident in Birmingham today where the roof has come cleanly off.
  6. Correct, also the hatches on top of the noses were way too small. The bodysides were too shallow which meant the noses were also too squat. I converted one into 37114 in Dutch livery using the headcode boxes from a Lima 37 and scratchbuilt a load of the detail including new bonnet top doors and struggled to get the headcode boxes between the horn grilles and tail lights such was the squatness of the nose. I was never 100% happy with the result and sold it 12 months later
  7. The Skirts were 2mm too deep, consequently the buffers were mounted too low as well. I will dig out some photos of the mods I did on mine when I am back home to show what I mean.
  8. 37429 was a first batch loco as was 37419 in EWS and 37673 in RFD, they were completely mis-shappen 37238 and 37142 were from the second batch as these were the skirt fitted version. The skirts are the biggest issue but an easyish fix
  9. Reading stuff like this makes me glad I don't live/work near Bristol anymore....
  10. I noticed that there are now posters in and around Paddington station advising of the need to be in the front five coaches
  11. Agree, a friend has a 14xx and is most disappointed that it won't work.
  12. Nice job, Road Transport Images do the boxer/Terrier cab, it is one of their better cabs as well.
  13. When I worked for one of the major transport co... Sorry logistics solution specialists I did a project on bridge bashing and how we could reduce the instances of Bridge bashing. A number of measures I put in place are still used today and focused around visual reminders to cut down on what I would call the "wasn't thinking" accidents. What it didn't stop was the drivers who short of having a barrier put in front of them were determined to get under the bridge come what may. Training has a big impact, bashes were proportionally higher with temporary drivers who didn't receive the full training that our own drivers did. Not sure why calling companies road hauliers, logistics providers or pallet chauffeurs will make though? The bottom line is we want our consumer goods as cheap as possible and the industry has priced itself to the bone, cutting investment in the very things that make a difference - People. We all pay the price in the end...
  14. Yes it does, with plenty of room to spare, currently it has a Land Rover in it and the layout.
  15. Brave man, I remember being at this stage and thinking "Wow, there is no way back now!" Worth it in the end:
  16. No surprise re converting it to twin tank, I doubt Colas have much use for steam heat. I wonder if the boiler will be coming out as well?
  17. yes, the one in 2020! There is still loads to do and I am not rushing it, also the garage is a sawdust free zone so all the woodwork for the fiddle yard won't happen until January at the earliest.
  18. My main focus on the layout of late has been the rather monsterous foot bridge which spans the fiddle yard end of the layout and thus is 18inches long . In reality the real bridge spanned the main, relief lines as well as the carriage sidings so my model is considerably shorter. The main part of the model is a mix of Wills vari girder (2.25 packs!) supplemented with various plastic sections to strengthen it. As in reality, the girder was joined in sections of the 4, the join being hidden behind diagonal supports (more on these later)The deck will be added later after spraying: The bridge is supported by various X frame girders, luckily there is a great photo of one of the supports in the Bristol Rail website (http://bristol-rail.co.uk/wiki/File:Malago_Vale_Carriage_Sidings9.jpg) so these have been scratchbuilt from various plastic sections. The photo below shows the bridge prior to adding the diagonal strips which keep the main girders in the upright position To paint the bridge by hand would be many hours work so it has been sprayed in Halfords grey primer. This will be weathered in due course.
  19. My approach was to find a house with 3 bedrooms when we needed 4. We then did a house extension designed by my dad and I. The garage is rather large but was sold to my wife on the basis that the bedroom above is the master bedroom, meaning our daughter could have our old room. The upside is the garage is now my man cave full of old land rover and layout. I think the trick is to ensure you understand your wife's wants and then weave them in to a win-win situation...
  20. 37412 was later named after the unfortunate driver involved. There was an incident many years later involving a railtour hauled by 37675 headed for St Blazey which was stopped and the loco changed so it didn't go to the depot
  21. We were 15mins late leaving Paddington due to train fault then running well below line speed between Reading and Didcot. Train was 30mins down at Chippenham.
  22. If nothing else, the roof fans are worth replacing, not sure if Shawplan EE range will fit. As above boiler ports are a minefield. I would also replace the hand rails with0.45mm wire. Good luck with the project, I resprayed a GBL 47 and used it as part if a 3D backscene on Peafore yard, some pics in the layout thread, link in my signature.
  23. Was there any update on the POT post office coach please? I was hoping it maybe out by Christmas but Hattons still have an undecorated sample as the pics on their website. Ta
