  1. Nice project. Not sure if you are planning to keep the original cab colour but the yellow star is easily removed with IPA on a cotton bud, the pic below is the original red cab;
  2. Peasevern Yard scenic section is less than 5ft, you could shrink it further if you shorten the headshunt which is designed to accommodate a class 37. I use cassettes to complete the run round loop saving space, my fiddle yard is longer than it needs to be. Basic track plan, the board is 15inch wide but could be narrower Completed layout
  3. Will be interested to see the finished article, I need to get stuck into mine.
  4. Heljan are redoing both their class 37 and class 55, I spent a lot of time inspecting both at MIOG in March and they are much better than the previous efforts so for Accurascale to go up against them would be a big commercial risk.
  5. Good choice, can see Accurascale doing well with this.
  6. A class 22 power unit survives at Bo'ness, I can't recall if it works though.
  7. I don't know the exact year but was between 1992 and 1994 as it was when I just got into modelling again, it was when Model Rail was a freebie supplement to RAIL.
  8. I would be surprised, Heljan already have done the 25 so have the bogies etc. My money would be class 22 with maybe class 23 an outside bet.
  9. More progress on the warehouse today, inspired by having spent the morning in the STEAM museum in Swindon at the Lego show with my son. I used some balsa strips to reinforce the warehouse front which was still too flexible for my liking. While the balsa was drying I started on the windows which are very fine laser cut and need frames adding which was a simple job if not monotonous with 16 windows to do. A couple of hours later all the corner pieces and pillars to hide the joins were fitted. I am still working out what to do with the canopy as the LCUT one I bought is probably a bit to small so am looking to scratchbuild something now. Really pleased how this has turned out, I just need to modify the platform to fit it in now.
  10. My point was more that some of the infrastructure maybe different to support an OHLE plus battery solution I.e fast charging at stations, short overhead where it can be erected easily and overnight charging on depots. The indiscriminate routing actually helps as you can rotate trains around to ensure enough charge for the longer routes.
  11. Controversial but I am not convinced there is a valid argument for electrification into Temple Meads... If you look ahead, over the next 5 to 10 years (which is realistically the earliest the electrification will be completed) battery technology will have advanced to the point that the IET diesel engines could be replaced by batteries charged by the existing overhead/static charging while stabled. I guess a similar argument for Oxford as well.
  12. Totally agree, it was a great end to the show which had been fantastic but had run it's course.

  14. Had Dave over for some beer and modelling session tonight which was the first opportunity to get cracking with the warehouse. I had received the last bits I needed from LCUT over the weekend so was keen to lay them out. The warehouse is the same width as the platform now I cut the tabs off that identify the parts and then cut strips from the thick card which Dave gave me to strengthen the back of the warehouse as well as join the upper level to the lower. The building should look quite sizeable when in place. Now the Eagle eyed may have noticed the presence of a loco at the top of the photo and one which is not BR Blue.. I am not an impulsive person normally but have always had a soft spot for class 60s and also like a bargain. I saw the above loco on eBay with no bids at £340 so put in a bid of £340 with the full expectation of getting outbid... but wasn't. 60029 also was the most recent class 60 I saw when it passed by one of the Distribution centres I am accountable for which is alongside the Tytherington branch so a nice coincidence. A couple of bits of weathering require some attention and it will get a test run on the layout but is likely to be a display only model in my home office for now. It may be used as a test bed to dip my toe into DCC Sound in the medium term
  15. Indeed... a similar model is on my "to make soon" list once I can try and work out how to get a 1.43 scale cB of one.
  16. If the blurb is correct then this has to be one of the rarest ever Land Rovers: https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-510---1982-land-rover-109-4-cyl-cnty-sw/?lot=18787&so=0&st=&sto=0&au=53&ef=&et=&ic=False&sd=0&pp=96&pn=6&g=1
  17. I think it is an interesting observation and definitely there is a growth and will continue to be of "Do it for me Classic car enthusiasts". As an example at work I am part of an internal social media group focusing on classic cars. Many of the cars on there are c40 to 50 years old and lpts of the owners talk about taking the car to a classic (insert brand of choice) specialist to be serviced or worked on. While I am quite happy to work on my 1977 Land Rover as it is simple 1950s engineering which I learnt from my Dad, there is no way I would touch a 1980s MG Maestro as there are boxes of electronics which I am no expert in under the bonnet/dash and anything newer just gets worse. While the cars of the 30s I would be happy to work on they have no connection to me (I am 45) or other of the sane generation and consequently the skills to maintain them although basic are dying out.
  18. I tried the warehouse against the platform. Good news is heightwise the door threshold is spot on, bad news is the warehouse is way too narrow... The advantage of the modular approach means I can place another order for the additional bits to make it longer. Below is what I am thinking; I have laid the canopy roof out to help work out the orientation of the doors ( I will replace the roof with some corrugated plastic sheet) but basically I need another 4 small bays.
  19. Hi John, I know what you mean re brick depth, I have found diluting the mortar wash a bit more than normal gets it into the joins. The only problem with peeling I had was where I tried to cut down a brick sheet (agree with you it, is a risk with the material) which was unpainted, @Gilbert gave me a tip which was to seal the sheets early on to reduce the risk of that happening. Other than the end walls my plan is to hopefully not have to do too much cutting so should be less of a problem (fingers crossed)
  20. I am sure Richard or Nick will confirm but they look like Parkside Grampus to me. A nice kit to build and weather, I think they are ZBO tops code.
  21. Speedy service from Jakub at LCUT meant the parts for the warehouse arrived today. I couldn't resist laying them out in the general arrangement for the panels over lunch, the warehouse will be about 2ft long. I went for 2 doors and have a canopy to go on the front as well, I will need to modify the platform a bit but hopefully nothing too drastic
  22. Brilliant stuff, I saw this at Cheltenham last year and was really impressed.
