  1. Now, children, play nicely or it'll be bed with no supper...

My view is that it's a nice little model with a lot of character that looks enough like a 6 wheeled toad for my purposes; I run a Hornby 2721 and cannot claim any standards in terms of fine scale modelling, though the 2721 is much improved from the condition it left Hornby in.  I will have one when one appears in a suitable livery for my period; it's a good model for the money, and the separate handrails put it a class above Bachmann's offering.

But  Daddy. He hit me first  :onthequiet:

It does look like a nice model & good value for the money.

It has flaws but I'm sure most modellers won't notice them & the majority won't care anyway.

  2. I've go no issue with anyone giving an opinion but not the sort of posting you have done in the past and it's any old excuse to fire off with you, how sad.

"but I'm sure it will give the rivet counters, wing nuts and assorted moaner something to whinge about."

Your the person who posted the above, not me so please don't be surprised if someone fires off at you.

Sorry but you can't have it both ways.

  3. Perhaps one persons toy is another persons model or the other way around  :this:

To me a toy is something which bears no real resemblance to a prototype item while a model is a scale replica of a prototype item.

That is it looks like a small version of the real thing.

in other news I ordered two locos from Hattons in the early hours of this morning to be delivered by DPD couriers two day delivery to ireland.

So far I've had an Order Confirmation email, an Order Processed email & an Order Packed into one parcel email with a tracking number.

    All within seven hours.

Looking good so far. The test will be when the tracking number shows up on DPD's tracking system

    Update.

My parcel with two locos arrived by DPD 10.30am. Two day delivery to Ireland as purchased.

I did order with some trepidation considering the problems that have been experienced by some including myself.

But I need not have worried as everything was as it should be.

I never had any worry about DPD as I use them frequently & they're top notch but its good to see that Hattons are on the up again & that hopefully all their problems are behind them.

We rightly complain when we have problems with a retailer so I feel its only fair to praise them when things go as they should.

So well done Hattons & DPD.

  4. I read parts of it, blimey, there's some bile there, now remember why I stopped using that particular organ. Looking forward to my apparently flawed, but hugely better than I could manage, Gate stock.

Not any worse than some of the stuff on here at times  :biggrin_mini2:

MRF is normally a mild mannered place but this particular subject seems to have really upset the cart everywhere its discussed.

  6. In case anyone is interested in what the inside of the cab of the prototype looks like here is a photo.

Sorry I don't know who took the photo or have any further information about it.

Is there any representation of the cab interior details on the model ?

  7. Hi All

I've recently come to DCC and need a bit of help with this DCC controller.

It doesn't work. No locos actually runs or make noises or nothing, I’ve only connected the wire to the program track to see it works or not but it doesn’t. It all lights up on the controller with the factory settings for decoder to 3 but no such luck. Is it worth calling to gaugemaster over his problem or not?

    Many Thanks

I would suggest that you check the manual to make sure you've everything connected up correctly.

If having checked & nothing doing then give Gaugemaster a ring.

  8. Hi everyone,

A quick question regarding the following Oxford Rail wagon model:

OR76MW7024 Steetley and Co Llynclys - 7 plank

What would it have carried?  I have a passing interest in the Tanat Valley, and so have some images of Steetley wagons from the area, but none of them appear to be 7-planks as per this model.  That leads me to wonder what it would have carried as the lime traffic seems to have been carried in wagons of 4 or 5 plank in height (some with a roof).   Would it have been coal for boilers in a crushing plant?

Thanks for any help with this.

    Regards,

    Alex.

    Hi Alex.

    I would suggest Limestone.

You might get more information on this site ?

  9. Hi again!

I never seem to be able to find the right place for my enquiries, so I am unaware as to whether this is the right place for this one. A few weeks ago I bought a wheel cleaner. Yesterday I got it out to clean the wheels of a forty odd year old Lima (continental HO) 6/6 loco fitted with a Zimo  MX632 chip. I placed the cleaner on the main track and the loco on the cleaner and got the thing to work, after which I removed the cleaner and placed the loco directly on the track and, lo and behold, it didn't work. I gave the track a clean up and it still didn't run properly. I than got out my portable programming/test track and the loco ran ok on it. Can anyone throw light on what might be wrong with the main track?

Try another loco & see if that works correctly on the track.

Check the pickups on the Lima in case there is dirt on them. Use a cotton bud & isopropyl alcohol.

If nothing check the loco on the program track & see if you can read the decoder cv's.

  10. Nice to see people taking delight in this.

Why do so many feel a need to kick Hattons, I don't understand it.

No kicking, just stating the facts.

    Nothing more.

    Again

    A regular Hattons customer here.

Same problems, same email as others have received, order was not showing on the site but is now showing as OPEN, money has been taken.

So I guess all companies have glitches. So no problem, it what it is ...as long as it is resolved in a few days and does not become their standard operating procedure.

I have just checked and part of my order was Peco bullhead track - which now shows that they can not obtain any more of this stock. So we shall see how long it takes for them to sort this out

    Yes they do.

However this has been going on for quite some time now for it to be a mere glitch.

My first experience of any problem was over a year ago.

I stated way back that something had changed at Hattons & not for the best.

Maybe they've changed their business model or maybe they're having staffing problems ?

    Who knows ?

All I know is that some people have been having problems with a company where previously problems were virtually unknown.

  11. I thought it was too good to be true.  I've just received this email from Hattons:

    Good Morning,

I am getting in touch today regarding your most recent order with us.

Firstly, I would like to apologise for the delay in fulfilling your order. Following on from our recent stock take, we have become aware of a number of items being offered as ‘In Stock’ inadvertently and we are currently working through these to fulfill them.

There are a small number of orders that we will unfortunately not be able to satisfy and we will be contacting these customers as soon as possible to advise.

Once again I am truly sorry for the delays in processing this order and assure you that we are taking steps to ensure this does not happen again in the future.

    Kind Regards,

    Richard Davies

    Managing Director

    Peterfgf

Me too. My order was placed Friday before last.  I received the usual "order confirmed" email pretty much instantaneously but am still waiting notification that the order has been picked/packed despite all items on my order being shown as more than 10 in stock on the website at time of order.  I have chased the order on Hattons' chat medium on the website and I am aware of the stock take issues.

    Fingers crossed.

That stock take must be an awful long one  :mosking:

In September 2016 I spotted a preowned item on their site which I immediately ordered only to be told several days later that the item wasn't in stock at all.

I have also received an email advising me that a preowned LNER locomotive that I had ordered was unfortunately not in stock.

It was unfortunate all right because I hadn't ordered any such loco.

I have no idea what has happened at Hattons to turn a company which was first for service & punctuality into a complete hit & miss company.

As they say "If it aint broken then don't fix it"

Or should that read " If it aint broken keep at it until it is"

  12. Tony (and perhaps whoever else you are on behalf of...)

The images on the Kernow web site (and for that matter today's weekly newsletter) are at the moment as far as I am aware still the livery samples from earlier in the year and yes I understand that livery tweaks (which is the purpose of such samples) have been made that will be reflected in the production versions that are due for shipment soon.

    Hi Graham.

    Thank you for your reply.

I look forward to seeing the production version when they are available.

They look like really nice models & if liveried & detailed correctly would be a very worthwhile addition to any layout or collection.

I will wait until I see the production models before purchasing.

As to your leading comment, I think at this stage I have a fair idea of who you are referring to.

This is not the first occasion it has been suggested on here that I'm acting on behalf of someone else and people making snide remarks has become extremely tiring even though it seems to be the norm on this forum.

I'm not interested in anyone's petty squabbles so please let me out of it.

I'm not from the UK & have never lived there so am very unlikely to know or have ever met the person you or anyone else may be referring to.

My only interest is in the models under discussion.

    Thank you.

    Tony.

  13. Hi,

Currently building a roundy-roundy layout with an upper level freight yard, giving me the opportunity for a number of sidings below.

I have some DC & some DCC fitted loco's (inc Sound), and have devised a way of converting it between power formats, just struggling with some form of detection for the hidden sidings:

I want to keep it simple and options  I have thought about are:

    - Isolating sections (but unsure that DCC locos would be happy with the sudden power interruption

    - Track circuit indication ( LED connected to a separate track circuit, so as soon as a train passes the affected track, the LED illuminates (again unsure if DCC will permit this)

    - Reed switches and magnets (although every train will then need a magnet!)

    - Infrared detection, but then with the area being pitch black, will it actually work

    - Using baby monitors with night vision (will I be able to get an angle covering all tracks, will I get a good signal etc.)

They were my ideas, anyone with any others that would work reliably, or with any experience of the above, then please feel free to comment.  I would really appreciate the assistance and the benefit of your experiences.

    Many thanks in anticipation,

    C.

    Hi C.

There are as you can see numerous ways of doing what you want.

A map / drawing or some photos of the area would really help in sorting out whats best for your situation.

It doesn't have to be any fancy kind of drawing, just a rough idea.

    Tony.

  14. Sorry for asking this question again but I didn't get an answer on the previous occasion I asked.

Are the sample photos on the shop site photos of the actual production model that will be supplied to customers ?

I'd heard mention that there were some livery tweaks to be done so was just wondering ?

At the time I asked here I also asked Kernow but didn't get an answer to my enquiry there either ?

  15. What are all these "major errors" of which you speak? You only mention one specifically (the numberplate). Could you give details of the others?

Locomotion have stated that the model is intended to represent the loco as it was in the late 20's/early 30's. I presume you have some photograph or other source material that enables you to make the statement that the model deviates from the condition the prototype was in during this period. Please can you either post a copy or let us know where this is to be found?

    Thanks

    Adrian

    Hi Adrian.
I provided a rather large list on this thread here
    Post no 22.
Even though the list refers to 2309 because that's what was being discussed all the faults marked with the prefix F also apply to the Locomotion model  as they will to any other model apart from the gap under the roof to the cutout.
Edwardian also posted a list of other faults in the same thread.
There are pictures of 2516 before and after 1934 on the internet and these have already been posted on the RMweb Dean Goods thread somewhere if Photobucket hasn't rubbed them out.

If you need further reading I can recommend  William Dean The Greatest of Them All by Jeremy Clements ISBN 978-1-9064 19-92-9
This is available on the net.
I obtained my copy on a certain auction site for a very reasonable price.

Sorry if the formatting of this post is incorrect as I'm working from a Minix NGC-1 mini pc at the moment which is used as a media server.
My main Pc which contains nearly all of my railway stuff is in getting repaired (I can't boot into Windows) & I have no Office software on this one. I am restricted to Wordpad on this pc.

    Edit:
    F. Position of handrail is too high covering washout plugs.
Sorry I should have mentioned that this fault doesn't apply to the Locomotion model.
The washout plugs are now no longer hidden by the handrails.

  16. There are so, so many possible answers to that question; most unfit for public consumption.

Apart from that he's the person you regularly exchange posts with on modelrailforum

I exchange posts with many people on Modelrailforum as I do here but I still don't know who you're talking about ?

At least now we've established that its a him ?

Will someone please tell me who ABS is apart from the manufacturer of white metal kits ?

  17. When I see different typefaces and font sizes within a post I always think someone has been copy and pasting between Microsft programmes (due to the way it preserves formatting) - I do wonder if you are relaying messages on behalf of ABS given some of the tells.

If that is the case, please don't bother.

Sorry if some of the typefaces & forts are not correct. The error is totally down to me.

I already had written some of the piece in a word document & then simply pasted it into my RMweb reply.

I will take more care in future.

Pardon me for asking but what is ABS ?

  18. I would respectfully ask this question.

Why would someone buy the Locomotion model accepting of course that rule no 1 always applies ?

They have corrected virtually none of the major errors. Although the cab cutout is slightly better the number plate position is now worse than shown on the earlier sample.

Someone needs to ask Locomotion for the photograph of 2516 in the late 20's or early 30's which shows 2516 looking like their latest sample. Indeed it would be interesting to see a photo of 2516 in that livery and with a 2500 gallon tender at any time before it went into Swindon.

Clearly all the major errors are still there plus various others even if the locomotive is supposed to portray the preserved example in Swindon.

2516 never looked like that in service. Neither in it's last few years on BR nor in the period the livery represents did the loco look like this model.

Even if they corrected all the detail errors and made the loco look exactly like it does in the Museum it still never ran like that although renumbering might give a few possible options I suppose.

Perhaps if the model looked exactly like it does in the museum it would look well in a cabinet as a model of a preserved loco but there are just to many errors.

Sorry but to me it looks like an overpriced Railroad model with a glossy coat.

  19. Andy's interview with Locomotion regarding the changes being made to the NRM edition was interesting.  Looks like some of the issues with the standard model are being corrected, kudos to the NRM and to be fair Oxford for working together to get it right.

Of course, it's only getting it right for that particular as preserved example!

    NRM didn't have a choice.

They couldn't sell the model as it was & retain any kind of credibility.
