  1. Gordon, I have to say that I would find a different route while that bu66er is there! Me frit? You betcha. Ed
  2. Because they will give you at least two years guarantee (3 on Apple stuff I believe). Ed
  3. Should have gone to John Lewis. Ed
  4. Morning all. Back from the GP and killing time until the hospital appointment. Ship's engineers. My Dad was a Chief ERA in the Andrew, When an RN ship breaks you not only have to mend it with what you've got, you also have to do it quickly or the baddies will shoot you! Unfortunately Dad continued this mentality for the rest of his life, refusing to buy parts or tools. I tried to explain to him that we were doing "dockyard jobs" but to no avail. However, if my car breaks down in the desert with the Taliban shooting at me I know who I would like to have with me. Miss you Dad Ed
  5. Probably nuffink. In my case I would use it if free, but rather than pay I'd go upstairs and look at my copies (complete from 1965). Ed
  6. Also has a 2 page article in the latest "Model Rail" magazine. Ed
  7. Hi Andy. What this layout needs is a nice weathered green class 22. Just like the one you sold me at the RMweb Open Day at Stafford all those years ago! You were modelling a more recent Scottish layout at the time. Ed
  8. I hope that isn't a true likeness. It looks bl66dy awful to me. Apart from the odd sleepering I can see no sign of chairs and I suspect it is a hand built prototype to establish the geometry. Ed
  9. ...and us fatties! Ed and Alsatians. and railway modellers.
  10. Also on the guitar programme was the new-to-me Japanese variation on the cross-point screw slot. Philips, Pozi-, Supa-drive and now the Japanese one. Little wonder so many slots are mangled. Ed
  11. Good morning all, Can somebody tell me what is supposed to be wrong with socks-and-sandals? If I don't wear socks my sweaty feet stick to the sandal. Most of my current fleet of socks is brown-ish. What colour sandals would the fashion police suggest for the forthcoming summer? Ed
  12. A bit like a locked thread on here. Good (middle of the) night everyone. Ed
  13. So, no SVR Autumn Gala? How do I get my fix of steam this September? If they do have it in November it'll be too b. cold to sleep in the 'van. Ed
  14. I clicked on "agree", but that would only be metaphorical money because I don't do the gamble thing. However, I do think Mirek's work deserves a wider audience. Would it be possible to put some photo's in the display at the top of the page perhaps Andy or Mods? Ed
  15. Apparently you can get a UK passport "urgently" in one week or even one day by paying extra and going to a passport office in person. It says you must be "in the UK", but it's not immediately clear to me whether that just means physically here (which clearly you must be to get to their office!) or your address must be here. They do seem to make it difficult to spend a loco's worth of money. Ed
  16. Thanks for all the replies so far. The comment about old Peco points being 1st radius is useful, I think that may be part of my confusion. My son keeps telling me I am SO last century, that may be part of the explanation. Ed
  17. 'evenin' all. What nobody has said is that dogs make fairly good hot water bottles. Handy when sleeping rough I should imagine. Ed
  18. I don't think that's a B1, it looks like a Gresley mogul to me. Ed
  19. I had already butchered my Princess into a "Turbomotive", painted red, but struggled to justify this on a 1960 ER terminus. I was delighted to see an article on how to convert the poor Princess into a Black Five which surprisingly was not available RTR back then. I do believe that I still have the mutant somewhere! I enjoyed the April Fools. I think the London Underground one with the guy digging up the floorboards was the first, it certainly fooled me for a very long time. I loved Blunts. I spent much of my spare time in the WGC branch as a schoolboy and, much later, I used to nip down to Mill Hill as a teacher. Ed There was a magic to some of the authors' names in the RM. W Hardin Osborne and Robbo Ormiston-Chant spring to mind.
  20. I pumped a Midget shell full of Waxoyl, or as full as their pump would allow me to, but it didn't really do much good and it rotted out again. Mind you it did stand unused in a free-standing brick garage with an asbestos roof. Re-shelled again now but lying unused again due to this bl66dy foot. At least the new garage is warm and dry and mice are the biggest problem. Ed
  21. "sweeping the pavement"-no wonder Dom's pictures of Germany are so litter-free if everyone has this attitude. Ed
  22. What about the connecting line to the ex-LSW Padstow line? Ed
  23. Do you mean Porthleven? It was in the first issue I bought (July 1965?) and inspired me. Built by Dave Howsam, who was at St Albans a couple of years ago with a Swiss narrow gauge layout. Ed
  24. Is a floz of mercury the same as a floz of water? Ed
  25. If I was making a model of Banff I would probably remove the point in front of the goods shed (loco's probably couldn't enter anyway), but insert a loco release crossover. I believe the prototype was gravity shunted but this is tricky in model form. One of the better models of Ashburton I have seen had an extra point added to make operation easier. Ed
