  1. I think you will find in general that engines with an odd number of valves per cylinder will have more inlet valves, it being easier to shove exhaust gases out than to "suck" air in. Remember that all engine tuning is about getting more air in, it's easy to squirt a bit more fuel. Ed
  2. Morning all. I know there are some ex-teachers on here and I wonder if you have received an e-mail claiming to be from Teachers' Pensions? I am suspicious and have not opened it and would appreciate some advice. @ Chrisf. My friends got a new Touran last month. The radio is a complicated thing but Chris was delighted to find that when she put a CD into the slot it played it straight away. We don't do blue tooth! Best wishes Ed
  3. Is that the Rashleigh Arms Ian? It certainly used to be lovely. Ed
  4. So who is going to be the first to post the clip with the elephant? Ed
  5. Car colours. When we were looking at new cars lately, in most cases you can only get one colour included in the price. The other colours seem to cost £500-£1000 extra. I was also disappointed by the range of colours available being a bit like carpets, namely 50 shades of beige. Ed
  6. I wish I could get blood tests done at my GP surgery. I have to go to the hospital and pay a fortune to park. Ed
  7. I think she was wrong to stoop to his level. Ed
  8. Do they re-arrange stuff on the on-line supermarkets? I have never shopped in this way. Ed
  9. I was a steward at the Beach Store for several years. An absolutely magical venue until you walked into the RSJ by the kitchen! So many memories...... Ed
  10. I had forgotten the Trix A2. I thought the short-term memory was supposed to go first. Ed
  11. Yes, the Blue Peter model railway. I remember Chris Trace, john Noakes and Peter Purves showing things on it. They also had links with "the" 532 Blue Peter as well. I had long stopped watching the programme when model A2's became available, so don't know if they got a mention. Ed
  12. Good morning all. Welcome back Chris, I wish I could have been there too. Wheel changing. Most new cars come without a spare wheel now-there is often nowhere to put one. But what on earth was that man thinking of, stopping to "help" on the motorway? Quite apart from breaking the law, he placed his family at risk by leaving them in the car on the hard shoulder. The ONLY correct course of action is to get behind the barrier and call for help. You don't need to walk to the emergency phone any more, and the nearest 100m post will give your location to the emergency services. The first Police or Highways Authority vehicle along will almost certainly stop (and probably help a damsel in distress!), parking a large vehicle in a position to protect the broken down vehicle. We were talking about reading the Highway Code recently, the "good Samaritan" clearly doesn't. Ed
  13. Will the cosmetic inside motion move at all? Ed
  14. What does then Tony? I ask because my two were born in 1987 and 1990 to an Italian mother. AFAIK they have dual nationality/citizenship, but they have not pursued the Italian bit. Ed
  15. Thanks Pete, that was lovely. Very Jackson Browne-ish. Do you have Bruce's original version of Across the Border? Ed
  16. I'd have thought double-heading was easier than banking, or are they worried about couplings breaking? Ed
  17. Phil, you need to check the weights very carefully on the camper. If it is the Auto-Sleepers glassfibre monocoque body (designed by William Towns of Lagonda fame) then it is heavy and it is very easy to overload the chassis. The convertors usually bought the lowest-spec, and therefore cheapest, version. A friend of mine writes as Jack Bancroft in Practical Motorhome magazine and will probably have all the figures at his fingertips. Ed
  18. That'd be the one with a speed limit never higher than 45 mph. Strikes me it doesn't really matter what you are stuck behind. Ed Top Gear tried to drive it and gave up.
  19. Morning all. Not contributed for a while as I have had nothing cheerful to say-I've been back in hospital for a fortnight and it seems that the world has gone mad. Even more dreadful news from Japan overnight. ISTR some discussion on here a while ago about catheters. F*****g hell! I was convinced they had stitched the thing to my old man. Didn't help that I got an infection and didn't know where I was and failed to recognise people. Anyway, I said I had nothing cheerful to say but I do now. You may remember the sad story of the loss of my first grandchild a while ago. The good news is that we are pregnant again, due in January and all going well so far. I have always wanted grandchildren as there seems some kind of completing a circle in there. Itt would be a bonus to get to know them and see them grow up too. Best wishes to all Ed
  20. The Kitmaster/Airfix/Dapol meat van? Ed
  21. Good morning all. I won't be surprise if it costs the same to leave the EU as would have been spent on HS2, so they are scrapping the latter to punish the electorate for making the "wrong" decision. In other news am off to see the GP this morning to see if I have fractured the end of my humerous when I fell over the other day. It's astonishing what medical experts Google has made of us all! Best wishes Ed Kennethsson

    Top Gear?

I hope they don't ask him to get a sandwich for JC., Ed
  23. I thought 2+4 HST's didn't have sufficient braking capability, or doesn't that matter in Cornwall with the low speeds? Ed
  24. I have never wanted to agree with a post less than this Ian. You may be well off out of it. Ed
