  1. My friend's parents travelled from Welwyn Garden City to Keighley to buy a new Chrysler 180. Was it Clock Car Sales? had large adverts in the local papers, offering low price, minimum trade-in and even things like travelling expenses and a meal. Their old Wolseley 15/60 nearly died on the way, using about a gallon of oil and more water! They loved the 180 so much that they "up-rated" to a 2 litre which enabled them to get a caravan, which they had always wanted. Ed

But I don't want a black bonnet on my green/wasp stripes 08! Ed
  3. Good morning all. At the risk of being controversial (again) I am fed up with people with plums in their mouths talking about apprenticeships and vocational education/training. I do not believe that they know what they are talking about, and to me there is an implied "but not for my child of course". I leave this for people to shoot me down in flames, I think I may be able to forecast the few people who agree. No friendly/supportives please! 3252 likes. Am I bovvered? Ed
  4. Morning all. Robert, good luck with the test. Was it the referendum result that prompted you to take it? My ex-wife (Italian) was frightened by the result and has done the UK test and now got UK citizenship. She was really scared of being deported. A visit to the podiatrist this afternoon and an INR blood test. Nowt else to report. Best wishes Ed
  5. When I was about 11 our next door neighbours had a Cresta like that, I thought it had full spats on the back? I remember being really impressed by the way it pulled compared to Dad's Oxford MO. Ed
  6. Good morning all. May I ask your opinion on something please. It's about the Paralympics. Whilst I am full of admiration for the athletes I can't help feeling that there is something voyeuristic about watching it, and I feel uncomfortable. My sons and my friends think I am wrong so my question is does anybody feel the same as me? Best wishes Ed
  7. The car with the boot open is a DAF 66 coupe. I had convinced myself that it had a Volvo grille but Wiki tells me that Volvo dropped the coupe when they took over DAF. It also tells me that the car was styled by Michelotti which explains the Italian look. Ed

So Richard Webster is clearly a clever man and a good business man. His Lionheart models are to a very high standard, but so are the prices. We are in a market economy and something is worth what someone will pay for it, and I don't blame anyone for taking the maximum profit. However, since the Dapol merger/takeover the price of the pannier tank has been reduced by about £200. Presumably there is still a profit in this, so draw your own conclusions. It is becoming clear that a small 0-6-0 loco in 0 gauge can be sold at around £200-indeed this may be a psychological barrier for many people. Perhaps the opening up of 0 gauge to the mass market is upsetting to the stereotyped G0G member, ie old and well off ! I have certainly seen layouts with stock worth many thousands. So maybe these loco's are a bit cheap'n'cheerful, although I think my Terrier is more than that. I've got an 08 on order, but I'll wait and see what happens with the panniers. It may well be that something else is announced before they are available. No offence meant to anybody Best wishes Ed
  9. The class2 moguls were painted in lined black and faux GWR lined green. They could be seen all over the place (often on one-coach trains) and were light enough for most lines, Also had a tender cab so no turn-table needed. I suspect it would not be too difficult to produce the Ivatt LMS loco at the same time which would allow LMS livery and extend the area where they could be seen. 10. Good morning all. Apparently the grandchild is going to be of the female persuasion. Having had two sons and being an only child I have no experience or knowledge of girls, apart from the need to wipe from front to back. It will be an interesting experience. She is due on January 8th which would be nice cos that was my Mum's birthday. Best wishes Ed
  11. How do you get the little hat over the "o" ? (is it a circumflex?). Ed
  12. The Petite was for general sale, it had two seats. Afriend of mine had one. Ed
  13. The cars are being exported, hence the labels. It's certainly not Cowley as MGB's were produced at Abingdon until the end. Ed
  14. Done by Heely Bridge in post # 129280 as "Hank the Plank" Ed
  15. Afternoon all. Went to see Princess Lizzie. Slightly disappointed because she was LMS red and not BR, but very nice. The experience was enhanced by a McDonald's Breakfast Wrap whilst waiting. British guitarists. Stewart beat me to it, but in no particular order, Richard Thompson, Brian May, Martins Carthy and Simpson all come immediately to mind. Grand Prix. Saw the start and the huge crash, then fell asleep before the restart and woke up as they were on the podium. Hey Ho. Ed btw there were about a dozen of us there to see Lizzie. Not like that well-known green engine a while back. Mind you, I don't think this was plastered all over the telly this morning.
  16. Good morning all. Thanks to Simon's information I am going to see Princess Elizabeth through town soon. I do love a big red steamer Registration numbers. I think the "new" system must have been designed by a committee. I can cope with 15,16 etc, but get totally confuse by 65,66 or whatever. BTW, I have to take my van in for some work in a week. Strictly speaking it's not the van's fault as I put the key through the washing machine and the plipper thing stopped working. Buying a new one is no problem but it has to be coded to the van. so it opens the right one. Any way, the guy booking it in made some comment about older vans, or vans of that age. I protested that it was nearly new, he pointed out that as an 09 it is now 7 years old. Flippin''eck! Best wishes Ed
  17. Good to hear from you Dave. Is that a Trident sub just off Sidmouth? Chrisf may know the answer. Ed
  18. One of my favourite words is gusset . When I was at the ICI training school drawing office all those years ago, and the instructor told us not to section gussets I had to go to the toilet. At least some of my youth is not totally lost. Ed
  19. Morning all. Red Peter on the Bluebell? Any relation to Blue Peter? Chrisf, what colour is the new one? I'll try to avoid it in the car park tonight. Ed
  20. You can of course get a 57xx and not model GWR. Get a red one! Ed
  21. Weren't that generation encouraged to go in the under-stairs in an air raid? Ed Or nuclear armageddon
  22. Did anybody else have a "glory hole" under the stairs? My computer lives there now. Ed
  23. A pie hole is the space above the filling which you think is all filling from the size of the pie. This never happened with Mum's pies. Ed
  24. You are right about the processed food and sugar Mal, but 50 years ago I was not only the Sassenach in Dumfries Academy, but the only fat kid, and well bullied. I don't recall fat adults either. The only place you could get fried food was the fish and chip shop (and I don't think you could get fried Mars bars). Now you can't move for chicken, burger, kebab shops and other take-aways as well as the huge number of cheap fast-food restaurants. I have to go to the hospital frequently and the number of hugely obese people is unbelievable. They have recently doubled the number of Diabetes Specialist nurses. Whatever the government is doing on sugar tax (apparently not much at all) is too little and too late. Ed
