  1. The D2019 TK seems an odd choice (but then anything with the 10" ventilators is welcome), until you consider it shares the same external layout as the D2017 TO used in the Bournemouth Sets. With the new Semi-Open Brake and Composite models, it wouldn't take too much effort to produce these fine looking 6-Sets at a later date. Well done Bachmann. Glenn
  2. Gentlemen, I am slimming down my collection and have twelve Bachmann Mk1s in WR Chocolate and Cream going spare. I thought I would ask if any of you GWR/BR(WR) chaps are interested first. They are: 2xBSK; 2xSK; 2xSO; 2xCK; FK; RU; BCK and a BG. Ideally for £18 each, but all reasonable offers considered. Glenn - with permission from young Robin
  3. I know what you mean, I have to suffer Radio 2 all day, awful, truly awful! Tonight the King and his consorts are heading north, or should that be west? Glenn, daan saaf.
  4. No, no, there are P Class locos in the photos, young Mr Muz hasn't got his grubby little hands on the Hattons versions already, has he?
  5. Fantastic looking vehicles, I've got six on their way to me, they should look right at home behind an N or even a C. One minor point (and I may well be wrong) but shouldn't the Set numerals be in BR Gill Sans style, rather than SR style as produced. Glenn
  6. Last week I 'ave mainly been in Devon ... ... the scenery fair blew me away(!), although I did do a little chuffing: Glenn
  7. "Black!, Black!, Black Mother" ... "now, now Johnny" ... Black is what you use when you run out of green paint and as for 'BR' ... no, not allowed. Glenn
  8. "The only thing I don't like is the distance between couplings" - Silly B*gger, where else are they supposed to put the Warwell? Simple Mind from Daan Saaf
  9. 'Ave an 'eart guv'nor, it's the only one I've got, in it?! I shall get on with more Bulleids immediately: 34007, 10 & 40 are next to join the fleet.
  10. I have recently purchased a Bachmann No.4965 Rood Ashton Hall split from the Shakespeare Express train pack, mainly because I like the fully lined GWR livery and the pairing with the 3500 gallon tender. I guess this is correct for this loco in preservation? I believe the early Halls were paired with 3500 gallon tenders? Can any of you GWR Hall experts provide me with a few name/number combinations. I have the plates for 4953 Pitchford Hall, would this be a possible candidate? Glenn - Hall's well that ends well!
  11. Us Southern folk love the joy of Sets, you can't beat 2's up with a 199 or a 200, or a threesome with 962 if you're adventurous!
  12. I spotted this conundrum with 57XX Pannier tanks a while back and looked at a couple of reference books to find an answer. I think I found one in Brian Haresnape's: Collett Locomotives, but I found this explanation online: 'The hammer blow from the 57XX's caused less damage to the track than other engines of similar axle load, so they were allowed on the yellow category routes from around 1950.' (edited) - Great Western Railway Pannier Tanks by Robin Jones, Crowood Press Ltd. 2014. Therefore: Blue C for GWR period and very early BR, Yellow C from around 1950 onwards. Here's one I sprayed earlier: Glenn - Spam lover
  13. Something of WR interest I've been working on for one of my customers/victims: Hornby 'Apollo' renamed with Fox etched nameplates and cabside numerals. Glenn
  14. Maunsell 4-Coach sets 241-247 were formed in 1933, all BTK-TK-FK-BTK. 241-243 were composed entirely of high-window stock, however 244-247 utilised older low-window 1sts in the set. As already stated these sets were all reduced to 3-Sets in 1951, with a composite replacing the FK and TK. Interestingly Hornby were to have produced the High window stock in lined SR livery back in 2011: Catalogue numbers R4506-11 covering six different types: BTK6, BTK4, TK, FK, CK and BCK. Thankfully (for us pre-WW2 SR modellers) set 243 has arrived in its lined green finery at last. Glenn
